This one has good first episode but the rest was just okay-ish at best. However it still makes you want to know more because of the cliffhanger at the end of each episode so you would binge watch it before you know it. Overall it was entertaining enough as long as you don't apply your moral value to some of the characters...please remember that this is a fiction...lol
This drama was okay considering it's on a midnight time slot. It has its cute moment but the deduction of the crime cases was pretty weak. The comedy was mild. Perhaps people who are interested in Tsutsui Ayame would enjoy it more.
This is very enjoyable and entertaining. The flow of the story is pretty straightforward and easy to follow through unlike the typical Japanese movie style. If you watch this in theater, you will come out with a smile and nothing will bug your mind about certain scene or hidden message after watching it.
Highly recommended to all.
The only drawback is the "VHS-like quality" of the visual, that it feels like a TV drama instead of a movie. But the movie also comes with nice action scene towards the end so it's worth to check if you have not already.
Nice one! I haven't watched Kurosawa's version but judging from the trailer of that movie, this drama followed quite closely with the original....but of course with some Kankuro's element added to make it more fun to watch.
One aspect that was mention during the interview was that the male character actually filmed way more scenes.…
LoL not everyone is horny for no reason. It would be too superficial if Toshi suddenly feels like want to sleep with her. Yes he likes her, he cares for her...but realistically speaking, the sexual attraction needs more time given the condition of Yuma
Very realistic (slice of life) movie. You will feel bad for Amiko but people aren't saint and she's definitely not easy to deal with. The last scene was brilliant. Amazing performance by Osawa Kana.
Slow pace, matured, beautiful country scenery, S800 trivia, life, family, good ED song, amazing acting. Written and directed by the same person. Preferably to be watched when you have a clear mind at night without any distraction.
I finally had the time to watch this movie. All I can say is despite the good performance from the actors, I am not fond of the style of this director. I only watched Sekigahara and this one, but I guess I prefer Sekigahara better.
Short and straightforward drama. Funny at times. Easy to follow with lesser politics. The last scene was good! Could've been crazier if this was made into series instead of one shot drama.
Pretty standard delinquent drama. The story is quite straightforward and the fight scene is okay. MC isn't strong and annoying at times, but that differentiate this from other dramas of the same genre.
What I like about this drama is that it covers many social problems in the name of one social problem...if that makes sense...lol
But then the story was told in a subtle way and some was from the facial expression of the actors instead of the dialogues. A bit slow in terms of pacing but the viewer would stick to the screen to know what happens. Not over-dramatized, no stereotype and not preachy.
I wonder what if this drama is given to Kudo Kankuro solely instead of a joint-writing. I understand they might be targeting mass audience since it's netflix series, but this kind of set-up only works with crazy plot development and over the top comedy which Kankuro usually mastered like what he did with his other works. This drama however didn't reach to that level of ridiculousness, causing confusion to some audience who might have taken the characters and story too seriously.
Other than that I noticed the drama generously gave us plenty amount of distasteful and meaningless kiss scenes. It felt like they only shot the scenes just because they can since it's netflix.
All in all this is still watchable and still retaining Kankuro's traits in the writing and also included some tribute to his past works; Amachan and 11-nin. The story mostly cynical to Japan values on things.
I saw people praising Nishikido's character but you should know this character is meant as a pure parody of a stereotype in any infidelity drama. Messy hair, pushy, don't care on trivial details, work as artist in a studio, making love in studio. If you have watched some Hollywood classics you would be laughing at it instead of praising....haha. The thing is this character is the most unrealistic one.
Pretty decent drama. Somehow in the middle it turned into episodic drama before it returned back to the main plot after episode 8...lol. Despite being a multi characters story, this drama managed not to overwhelm viewers by only focusing on few characters at the beginning and only exploring some other characters as the drama progresses, although not everyone got a fair share of backstory.
Overall a good tribute drama. I'm not into Japan literature so I don't read any Japan Books but after a quick search on internet, I noticed that the scriptwriter managed to include some Rampo's writing traits in this fictional life story of Rampo.
There were few nice action scenes especially during the first episode, which I didn't expect to see judging from the poster. The drama also showcased beautiful 1930's settings and costumes.
However the usage of modern style face mask was a bit weird and questionable. The story from one episode to another was kind of disjointed and some information wasn't obvious unless you read the episode synopsis before watching.

The downside is the very unconvincing concept of screenwriter x lawyer. I know it's fiction but it failed to make me believe that it's believable. There were some minor plot holes in the main big case as well.
On a different note, I noticed the 法廷式 (hoteishiki) in the title might be a word play instead of a real word with real meaning. It's probably the play on 方程式 (hoteishiki) which means equation or formula by changing the first two characters into 法廷 (hotei) which means courtroom. Thus the poster highlighted these two characters.
So the "Victory Court Ceremony" isn't the intended meaning....I think. It's more of Winning Formula or Winning Equation which is referring to the collaboration of the two main characters.
