Shinigami san is getting subbed by Luwang on discord
Thanks for the info! Sorry for asking but do they have a website for us to get the sub or do we need to join discord?

Title Enjiya
Overall an interesting drama. I wish for it to be longer but upon reflection 3 strong sub-stories in 6 episodes would be better than longer episodes but mixed up with filler sub-stories that's written in episodic and repetitive style.

Will be interested in the following dramas. Hopefully they will get subbed:
Nigatsu - hit or miss, nonetheless I will check this out
Shinigamisan - looks promising but it could be a flop
Boku no Neechan - could be an interesting family drama
Nihon Chinbotsu - will watch for the politics...and just look at the cast!
Shinhannin Flag - yeah for the mystery
Iribito - for the mystery
Kinnikuman - confuse with what it is, therefore I will keep my eye on this
Solomon Perjury - I don't watch the movies but feel interested with the series format
Bank Over - too bad only 2 episodes
Seigi no tenbin - maybe, but it sounds cliche and I'm tired with genius character in dramas

Such a waste of potential! The writer has done some good dramas. She did a good job until episodes 45, but the…
In ep48 and 49

Imagine the writer did a totally new take on Honnoji Incidents but all of things were out of place

- Mitsuhide has a very young son and he left him at Tokugawa as hostage...then Imagawa sent the kid to Iinoya thinking Naotora could take good care of it??

- Mitsuhide lied about Nobunaga plan to kill Ieyasu and everyone in Tokugawa believed??

- Therefore Mitsuhide asked Ieyasu to kill Nobunaga instead at Nobunaga's castle....while they can easily kill Nobunaga during that Hamamatsu visit at that particular time??

- Agreeing with Mitsuhide, Ieyasu asked Toramatsu to ask Naotora to prepare the escape route around Kyoto...while Naotora never stepped farther than Sunpu in all her life?? and now she has to go to Sakai and make arrangement?? I mean a big Daimyou like Ieyasu doesn't know other person than Ii families??

- Toramatsu specifically mentioned Chanoya, the merchant name but he gave this task to Naotora while he was more eligible and younger to do this task??

- All of these so that Naotora could meet Kashira for the last time??

- To use western ship, Naotora agreed to sleep with foreigner (conveniently saved by Kashira tough)?? But in the end we never see Ieyasu boarding that ship

- The comedies during Ieyasu and gang escape from Sakai was really really lame with Kashira pretending as passerby

All of sudden this drama has turned into parody a la time-slip manga just in these 2 episodes...I was like...What??

Such a waste of potential! The writer has done some good dramas. She did a good job until episodes 45, but the remaining 5 episodes were bad and 2 episodes before last simply screwing everything up!

Ep1 - 29: excellent, funny in a right way, intriguing drama (8.5/10)
Ep30 - 45: tolerable but with some questionable plots (8/10)
Ep46 - 49: ridiculous and not better than a parody (6/10)
Ep50: carried over the ridiculousness however wrapped up everything satisfyingly (7/10)

Overall my rating is 7.5/10

Yeah Japan is westernized country but their dramas have evolved into its own style to the point it's not everyone cup of tea.....otherwise many people will watch it (at least by those who are not bound to legal consequences)....just look at the numbers of viewers on every jdrama page on MDL....
So assuming a person can easily like jdrama because it's more close to western style is far from correct IMO....but its wide variety of genre is more logical in addition to its uniqueness

Hi, don't get me wrong but I don't agree with this statement of yours:"I don't care much about romance and romcoms,…
Opps I thought you were talking about recent dramas....older dramas are definitely different,...even some people who love Kdramas nowadays came from watching it....but in reality there are too little (if any) dramas like that produced in recent years...

As for me, the main attraction of Jdramas is the wide range of genre and the ability to not involve romance at all while keep the drama entertaining until the end...and I don't see Jdramas have failed yet in this aspect...it's just that we need to carefully select the right drama

Nice article with excellent writing!

I guess when it comes to be accepted internationally, it is up to the ability of viewers to relate to situation and action in a drama....Even though I don't watch Kdrama "in full", I could see that the story/situation/action/joke/villain-level presented in a drama is more easier to be followed by anyone right on the first time....in other words it follows everyone logic...even my mom has no problem watching it and she is 70++

That is not usually the case for Jdrama...many dramas are difficult for beginner ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…...it may need some time to get used to...but once you get into it, you will find its charm...and because it doesn't (usually) conform to everyone logic, it makes Jdrama unique and open a new perspective for me

About westernization, I can't comment on the Korean as I don't really watch it....but I do worry with some Japanese production working too hard to look more western than westerner ๐Ÿ˜ช๐Ÿ˜ช๐Ÿ˜ช....recent example being Naked Director S2, where most of insert songs are in English...there was scene of driving with big car in highway that look like highway in US..another example that caught my attention is Followers... in addition to having setting that doesn't feel real (to Japan), actors acted more western in this drama and tried to portray "freedom lifestyle" as in the west

Hi, don't get me wrong but I don't agree with this statement of yours:
"I don't care much about romance and romcoms, about school or young adults love stories, yet it seems like most viewers are drawn to Jdramas precisely because of that."

The fact is, Jdramas are well known for not doing so good in these genres in comparison to K and C dramas...so I doubt that is why people are drawn to it...

But I do agree most people love romance (not only in Asian dramas)...and because of that they usually tend to be disappointed with Jdramas as most of the time Jdramas don't mix romance into other genres...

My favorite from the list is Oguri Shun...because he is the kind of actor that's willing to pick up any roles and doesn't stuck with 1 type of image...

Other than that, Fukushi Sota and Sato Takeru are both having greater potential but they are not my favorite because they always portray the same image (even with different roles)

Not listed but worth to be checked out by anyone who's new to Jdrama:
Suda Masaki, Kamiki Ryunosuke, Takeuchi Ryoma
On Yakuza and the Family Aug 22, 2021
I gave it 8.5 for entertainment value. It is kind of movie that makes you feel worth the money after leaving the cinema even though the story was straightforward and a bit predictable. The amount of action and emotion it offered was enough for anyone to enjoy it.

**Side Note**
Might not suitable for those who don't like romanticism of bad guy....although I personally think it was done in a fair manner without overly boasting on the crime they did...it's simply the POV of a yakuza and the people alike

My take on the kiss scene

Before the kiss (when Ryuji was still not in the room)...Kurumi saw the career path form where Ryuji wrote Surgeon as his choice...then we have that flashback of Kurumi parodying DoctorX...which means she too wants to become surgeon....

Having one sided feeling (or even if they got into relationship) will interfere with her considering Ryuji will also be in the same department...so she decided to move on thus the goodbye kiss
On We are Medical Interns Aug 19, 2021
Overall a nice career-centered drama. It's a mix of comedy, life and character growth. The vibe of the drama was mostly easy-going it could be easily mistaken as a lame comedy show especially during the first few episodes....but at times it really tackled the life-related matter masterfully. There were also some good quotes throughput the drama that could give inspiration to those who just started their career (not only in medical field).

On the downside, the drama didn't focus that much on other interns except the main character (Alan). Some of the plots also need to be interpreted by viewers themself as the writer left it hanging without more explanation.

8/10
