Aoey and Tiffy in episode 5: Wow! Aoey is a much deeper character than I thought. I really feel for the dude. And Tiffy is such a loving and supportive girl. I can't wait to see how they expand on them even further.
Aoey and Tiffy in episode 11: I am so done with these two... >_>
Really, I feel like this show dropped the ball with these two characters. After episode 5, I thought they had so much potential. But Aoey's story and past really didn't go anywhere beyond episode 5 and he just became an annoyance more than anything. And the whole thing with Tiffy and Tum was really stupid. Just because Tum has a few feminine traits, she just assumes he's gay and just cannot believe him otherwise until he raps?? Then suddenly she's willing to give him a chance, until this happens and she immediately drops him again. Episode 12 better have some kind of plot twist to redeem these two in my eyes.
I can understand both Gene and Nubsib. Like on one hand, laying low for a few months doesn't seem that hard. I mean shoot, I kept away from my S/O for longer because of COVID. Practically speaking, it shouldn't be that big of a deal and Nubsib probably shouldn't be so willing to give up his career and future like that.
But on the other hand, I very much agree with Nubsib just on principle. A money grubbing company asking you to publicly denounce the love for your boyfriend, stay away from him, and pretend to be all lovey-dovey with a guy you don't care about, just to appease the company bigwigs and delusional fans that can't separate fiction from reality when it's not even in his contract? Yeah, f*ck that shit! Even if it's detrimental to his career, sometimes you just have to put your foot down and say "no" if they ask you to do something you're against on principle. Especially considering the entire reason he became an actor in the first place was to get closer to Gene, he's obviously not even that invested in this company and more than willing to drop them if they push him too far.
I don't see many people talking about Hin, but I thought the whole thing with him and his writing was very relatable. It can be nerve-racking putting your work out there, and since this is the internet, people will not mince words when it comes to criticism and that can be a real hit to your motivation especially if you're a newbie. I'm glad Gene was able to give Hin good advice on how to handle that and keep pushing forward.
So when I saw the trailer for episode 2, I thought that maybe First plays a cat that can transform into a human or maybe a cat with the spirit of a human or something. But no, he's just a cat. He's a cat personified by First. That's it. I saw some people were confused about this episode, but it's literally just the story of a man taking care of his cat. XD
What the hell is this plot!? It's so ridiculous! You think one character is pulling the strings, but NO it's actually another guy, but NO it's actually a completely different guy, but NO it's actually the lover all along??? Like what the hell!? That is not how you do a plot twist. I was initially interested because I like CIMA's pole dancing skills and was curious when I found out he was in a gay film. But man...if he's ever in another gay film, I pray that it's better written than this. I also hope they actually use his voice and not a separate voice over.
Soooo I can't exactly say this was good, but I also wanna watch the sequels now. Is that weird? Morbid curiosity maybe. I mean, I've already watched plenty of cute, fluffy, fantasy-driven BL so it's kind of refreshing watching something raw, dark, and bizarre even if the story's kinda crap.
I think what I love most about this show are the characters. They're all just so damn lovable. Like, the core story itself is pretty basic and if you're a BL fan looking for spicy scenes, you're DEFINITELY not getting any here. But you know what I say to that? So what!? Despite that, the main couple still manages to have great chemistry and the rest of the cast are a lot of fun. I don't think I've ever watched a BL where I didn't dislike a single character until now. I'm so used to BLs having either frustrating characters or good characters that end up in frustrating situations because the director loves unnecessary drama. But any drama this show had was either minor or resolved in a timely manner.
Man, episode 7 really confused me. A lot about that school ceremony scene rubbed me the wrong way too. 1. Shouting out to everyone that you're a fujoshi and all the students attacking the teachers trying to stop her was...weird. 2. It rubbed me the wrong why how it felt like that speech turned into one that clearly put Jun on the spot who had already gone through a lot. 3. It REALLY rubbed me the wrong way how Ono called Jun a coward and selfish for acting like the victim. BRO!!! You outed him to the whole school, called him disgusting, pressured him to leave the dressing area, and pushed him to almost kill himself!! Like, I get it, Jun definitely isn't innocent. Because he wanted a normal life so badly, he did some bad stuff that hurt Miura pretty badly. But at that point, didn't he already apologize and explain himself to her? The whole part with Ono just made it feel like Jun's gotta take responsibility for what he did by continuing to be with Miura and kiss her on stage in front of everyone despite the show making it very clear that Jun is gay and nothing can change that. 4. The kiss. I really don't get why it was necessary. This big, theatrical kiss in front of the whole student body smiling and cheering for them like they have a long life ahead of them. Again, it felt like they were saying because Jun hurt Miura, he's got to take responsibility by giving her what she wants from him.
I could be heavily misinterpreting this, so if anyone else can explain otherwise, then by all means. Overall, I really liked this show though. Really, if it weren't for episode 7 I'd probably give it a 9/10.
Y'know, I STILL feel like Gene overreacted in episode 6 after remembering who Nubsib is. It just felt to me like he jumped to a pretty wild conclusion. Like, I dunno, if I were him I'd definitely be shocked and angry at Nubsib. But more than anything, I'd just want Nubsib to explain himself. Explain why he kept it a secret from Gene. I don't know why Gene just immediately thought Nubsib was messing with him or pranking him. I mean, it'd make sense if child Nubsib was a huge prankster, but he wasn't. He was pretty much the same doe-eyed boy smitten by Gene that he is now. Nubsib's affection towards Gene should've just made MORE sense to him after remembering, not the opposite. The conversation they had in episode 7 really should've happened the moment Gene got back from his trip.
On the final episode, is there gonna be some plot twist that these were all just bad fan fictions written by some horny fujoshi and the characters aren't actually real? At this point, that's the only way I'd be able to accept this show, if it turns out to be totally self aware.
Man, they went from hate to love REALLY fast. Like, literally overnight. One scene, they're about to punch each other. Next scene they're staring longingly into each other's eyes and flirting real hard. I guess if each couple only gets two episodes to themselves, I should expect these stories to feel extremely rushed.
they're not cousins, thai often call elders aunt or their mother's close friends, friend's mother, neighbors,…
Well now I'm just confused why Gene freaked out about this. So it's just that they knew each other in childhood and Gene doesn't remember, but Nubsib does and failed to mention it. I can understand Gene being confused and wanting answers from Nubsib. I can also understand Gene being upset that Nubsib didn't mention it if he knew all this time. But god damn, Gene acted like Nubsib cheated on him in front of his eyes or something! They better elaborate in the next episode...
It may have been because of the poor subtitles that had a bunch of typos, incorrect pronouns, and sentences that just didn't make sense, but this episode was really confusing. What exactly was revealed about Gene and Nubsib? Was it that they're cousins or is there more to it than that? I hope there's more because couples being relatives is a BL trope I've never been a fan of. And for a show like this that actively calls out and pokes fun at BL tropes, I hope it doesn't go there. Although I guess this show's already committed another sin, being poor communication. For a character like Nubsib who is usually very straightforward, blunt, and on the nose about stuff, it's really weird that in this instance he's suddenly at a loss for words, especially after saying that he can explain and has his reasons. THEN EXPLAIN!! Don't just stare at Gene and attempt to caress his face when he's clearly very angry. They might not even be cousins and maybe just childhood friends. Again, the poor subtitles made things very confusing. Gene does at one point say that Nubsib is his aunt's son, but then again earlier in the episode the subtitles referred to Aey and Nubsib as "she/her", so I don't know if I can trust what I read...
I gave this a try as I'm honestly in support of dramas/movies addressing real life issues, but a traumatized homophobic…
Couldn't agree more. I see people calling this story "realistic". On the contrary, I feel like this is your quintessential unrealistic horny BL fantasy that, like you said, is fit for a yaoi and not much else.
The main reason I watched this was for Lee Sang. I'm a big IMFACT fan and when I found out he was starring in a drama and playing a gay character, I was hyped! I mean, it's not often that a K-Idol would be willing to play a role like that, so I was gonna support even if the movie was bad. But turns out, I really enjoyed it. The two leads did a great job, especially considering this is Lee Sang's first main role. I also liked some of the side characters like Yoo Jin and Min Seong. The story was simple, but effective. It's a nice, feel-good movie that's easy to watch. Proud of both the boys! :) Also, I specifically watched the movie edit. I'd heard from others that the episodic version was oddly paced. Haven't watched the episodic version, but I can't imagine this working as anything but a movie. It feels like that's how it was meant to be all along.
I'd seen a lot of hype for this series and everyone was reacting to it, so it definitely peaked my interest. But after watching the first episode, I don't know if I wanna continue. It just reminded me why I had fallen off of BLs in the first place. You got Type who's deeply homophobic, believes gay people are predators, and afraid his gay roommate Tharn will come after him. Tharn then proves him correct by molesting him in his sleep. Nice. Really nice. Great writing. >_>
