A few weeks ago, some commenters were wondering if First Man refers to Baek Ho- as in he is Jang Mi's first man. I am starting to think that they are right. So if First Man does indeed refer to Baek Ho, then surely, he should play a bigger role in the show than just supporting Jang Mi with her revenge, right? Right now, Baek Ho lacks his own story, and he has no real motive for any revenge plan, aside from helping Jang Mi. Maybe if Hwa Yeong were to harm his parents- but this is highly unlikely. Baek Ho needs something more to earn his mention in the title of the show and to make the show truly about him.
If this was not a MBC show and not a daily drama, but a 16-episode show, I would have thought that the writers were setting up Baek Ho for a villainous turn. The writers made him fall so hard and so fast for Jang Mi and he confessed his love super early. Fortunately for him, Jang Mi feels the same way but he has been really pushy with her and sometimes, his behaviour has been borderline, obsessive. We excuse his behaviour because he is the ML. If Jang Mi did not have any feelings for him, his behaviour would be considered to be quite problematic. He has literally become her shadow. Jang Mi's quest for revenge will make him lose her, romantically, temporarily. When she starts living with Hwa Yeong and her grandfather, he will not have the same access to her as he does now. On top of that, she might marry his brother and Jun Ho will become someone else whom she can lean on. Her attention will be divided and it will really hurt Baek Ho, even if it's just an act on Jang Mi's part. And, as of this moment, Jun Ho is an innocent person who will just be collateral damage in a revenge plot- it would be different if he were a villain. So being with Jun Ho will really weigh on Jang Mi's conscience. And will she be immune to his charms?
The revenge plot will make Baek Ho hate Hwa Yeong because she is the reason he might lose Jang Mi and he will plot to get rid of her. Will he lose himself in the revenge? Will Jang Mi have to bring him back from the brink? If he does lose Jang Mi, will he want revenge on both her and Jun Ho?
I think Baek Ho becoming a villain, temporarily, will give his story more depth and it will be fun for the actor to show two extremes of his character. Baek Ho has all the makings of a villain: 1) Villains tend to have unwavering devotion to one woman and in most cases, the woman doesn't want him and this is sometimes the trigger for their evil. 2) The writers keep telling us how good and kind-hearted Baek Ho is, so him becoming a villain would be a huge shock to everyone.
So will the First Man also be Jang Mi's Last Man? According to the history of dailies, very likely.
I know it is highly unlikely that Baek Ho will become a villain but I like the idea, and it will definitely make the show unique to other dailies. And it will certainly add some much needed intrigue and excitement to an otherwise bland show.
He wants to revenge just two people: Kang Sin-jin (the man who ordered his murder) and Jang Tae-sik (S Corp).…
At least he informed them of the deadly risks and they are still wiling to help. Getting hurt is highly likely, I'm afraid. Sin Jin is far too volatile and he is used to getting his way. It's only a matter of time before he figures out that someone is sabotaging him.
I don't think it's misleading- he calls her, "Jang Mi", and seems to ask what she is doing there. So they…
Indeed- I am still surprised that Baek Ho did not try to look for a picture of Seo Rin to prove to Jang Mi that there is an heiress who looks like her. She didn't believe him. And Hwa Yeong is not even worried that Baek Ho once met Seo Rin, or maybe she forgot.
Jun Ho would have figured out that they are twins immediately.
Baek Ho confessed far too quickly and he seems really desperate. I also think he is scared that Jang Mi will fall…
💯 great assessment- especially about Jang Mi's feelings being mistaken for gratitude. This is her first romantic relationship so she needs time to learn and to feel adequate for him. And always showing up at their house and calling her is just putting pressure on her. I am surprised that he actually told her that the reason he is bending over backwards for her and her family is because he has feelings for her. Talk about pressure- anything he does now will just pressure her. Moreover, she still has things she wants to achieve like become a top chef- of course, he can argue that she can still do that while they are dating, but I think she might want to do that before dating.
Baek Ho really gives off second lead vibes with his level of desperation and yearning. This is the third time I have seen a ML act like this towards the FL- the first was in The Brave Yong Su Jeon where the FL had a major crush on the SML who was the CEO of a company and later turned out to be the brother of the ML. But in that one, the ML was 8/9 years younger than the FL so she treated him like a little brother- he was so sad all the time😂. The other show was Queen's House where the ML was a sad puppy because the FL was not ready to accept his feelings. Funny thing is the ML in Brave Yong Su Jeon and Queen's House is the same- so he has mastered the sad puppy face😂.
Oh boy, Dad runs into Seo Rin in the next episode, or is it another misleading preview?
I don't think it's misleading- he calls her, "Jang Mi", and seems to ask what she is doing there. So they definitely interact. This will be the second time someone calls Seo Rin, "Jang Mi". Hopefully, Seo Rin will finally start looking into it.
Seems like Bok Gil called Hwa Yeong and is on his way to meet her. This family does not seem to understand that a CEO is not someone you can call and meet whenever.
Hwa Yeong is planning on hiding she is his mom and marrying the 2, but I don't how that will work when he can't…
It will be certainly be difficult- he will only start warming up to her after the swap- I guess Jang Mi, as Seo Rin, will distance herself from him and refuse to marry him, but that would be out of character for Seo Rin. It will be interesting to see how the writers will navigate this. Can 'Seo Rin' suddenly want to marry Baek Ho? And how will Jang Mi's disappearance be explained? A lot of people know her name now and Baek Ho's Mom knows where she lives.
On a different note, do you think Gang Hyeok might try to harm Jun Ho when he finds out his identity?
I wonder if Yeong Ja knows Suk Hee. Suk Hee was studying law before- maybe they might have bumped into each other at law school or might have been friendly. Maybe Yeong Ja knows who Suk Hee was dating- that would move the story further along. I guess we will find out later today since Yeong Ja is visiting the Oh family.
I was actually impressed by Hwa Yeong wanting to end things with the Professor. It shows that she is not really invested in the relationship- the Professor is just someone who makes her feel happy but he is not important to her goals. Compare this to how she hated Suk Hee because she was dating Dong Seok. Suk Hee was standing in the way of her goals of owning the Dream Group so she was her enemy. Right now, Hwa Yeong is grateful to Yeong Ja for raising Ha Neul so well but I think this might change when she sees Jun Ho dote on Yeong Ja and call her Mom- that might build some resentment. This resentment will drive her to want Jun Ho to live with her and the only way that can happen is through a marriage to Seo Rin. I wonder what the Professor will say when Hwa Yeong suggests that their children should get married😂😂😂😂😂.
That being said- I am a bit worried for Jun Ho- I hope the writers don't make him have leukemia again towards the end of the show, and maybe kill him off. That would be super sad for him- I hope he gets a happy ending- he went through a lot as a child.
Seo Rin's character is just a waste of time at this point- she has no real role and is just floating around. I would not be surprised if she is killed off.
So far, the reveals in the show have really fallen flat for me- like the reveal of Hwa Yeong discovering that Suk Hee and Jang Mi are still alive; or Suk Hee meeting Seo Rin; or Hwa Yeong having another son and him being Jun Ho; or San Wol discovering Hwa Yeong's affair and telling the Chairman; and the Chairman confronting Hwa Yeong about seeing a married man. While they should have been exciting, edge of your seat, reveals- they just weren't. I wonder if the show's excitement level will increase when the revenge finally begins.
This is my first daily or kdrama where the ML confesses this early in the show- we are only 1/4 of the way through the show. To me, his confession was not romantic at all but reeked of desperation and fear. I think he is fearful that Jang Mi will fall in love with Jun Ho when she finally meets him so, subconsciously, he is trying get her to fully commit to him before that can happen. This was confirmed when he brought up Jun Ho in the car, when she was trying to explain why she cannot accept his feelings. He said if it's about her feelings for Jun Ho, he can wait- which indicates just how desperate he is. He has also not told her that Jun Ho is his brother and also lied that Jun Ho has a girlfriend to discourage her feelings for him.
Poor Jun Ho- he does not even know that he is in a love triangle 😂😂.
This is another thing that makes this show unique- in shows where the FL has a crush on the the SML, she has usually met him by now and formed some kind of relationship with him- usually friends or kinda dating- but Jang Mi is yet to meet Jun Ho and that meeting is now much anticipated.
Baek Ho will be wearing that sad puppy look for most of the show- especially when Jang Mi becomes Seo Rin. I wonder if Jang Mi would actually go through with marrying Jun Ho- then Baek Ho would go from being her kinda boyfriend to being her brother-in-law. Will Jang Mi become so engrossed in revenge that she will lose herself?
i don't understand why little white tiger would rush things, he looks so innocent and yet walks around carrying…
Baek Ho confessed far too quickly and he seems really desperate. I also think he is scared that Jang Mi will fall for Jun Ho when she meets him so he is trying to get her to commit to him first.
Baek ko is so free that he follows the whole family everywr. Like he is literally devoted to fl. If they start…
I am really annoyed with Baek Ho- his level of devotion is so over the top and is like that of a second male lead. He is not independent and is now basically the supporting cast for the female lead. I prefer the first male leads to have their own stories then at some point, their goals and those of the female lead can align and then they work together. But the way it is now, Baek Ho will just support Jang Mi with her revenge journey- he has no personal motivations other than supporting his lady love, which is quite boring. That is were Jun Ho is different- we have barely seen him but his story is already so intriguing- which makes him a far better character- and why, even though I know it won't happen, I am silently rooting for Jang Mi and Jun Ho. The fact that they have never met adds to the intrigue- this is my first show where the second male lead- who will have a romantic interest in the female lead- has not met her after 30 episodes. But the reason why makes sense- he cannot meet her before she swaps identities with Seo Rin.
Baek Ho should have been given Jun Ho's storyline- making Baek Ho the son of her enemy would have made their love story complicated and far more interesting.
I was pleasantly surprised by Tae Sook this week. Jang Mi said she treated her like a real sister and never made her feel like she wasn't. Tae Sook responded that Jang Mi is her sister and there is no reason to thank her. She added that after living with someone for decades, blood really does not matter. And she is so right. That was such a sweet and tender moment between the sisters, and I love how the family is now back to normal. I was not a fan of Tae Sook, initially, especially with how she revealed the truth to Jang Mi, but after seeing that she genuinely loves and cares for Jang Mi, I have changed my opinion of her. Of course, it remains to be seen what the writers will do with her character, but for now, I like her.
If only Suk Hee had not been so stubborn in the beginning- she should have told Bok Gil that she was pregnant and they could have all lived together- the six of them. The twins would have grown up together, at least, and Suk Hee would have been a lawyer.
Ha-ha!🤣ðŸ˜Ha Neul is Jun HoJun Ho is Ha Neul His date tattoo matches. I feel like a love triangle will ensue…
Jun Ho kept on insisting that he will never ever marry Seo Rin- but he will definitely want to marry Jang Mi disguised as Seo Rin😂. I don't think he will ever meet Jang Mi as Jang Mi- he will meet her after the swap.
I think it will be more like a love pentagon once Hong Ju is added to the mix- the synopsis says she will want Baek Ho- I wonder how they will meet and why Hong Ju will be so whipped.
Whenever Hwa Yeong finds out that Jun Ho is Ha Neul, she can't tell him the truth about who she is without admitting that she stole a baby- otherwise he will treat Seo Rin like his kid sister. So she might push for him to marry 'Seo Rin'.
Hwa Yeong is about to have another major problem- a YouTube video featuring Jang Mi and Tae Pyeong is about to be posted. That should help to reveal some things and speed up the story.
I hope Hwa Yeong won't injure someone after she is caught searching the house. I think Suk Hee will be the one to find her.
I don't know if I missed this before but the writers are now saying that Tae Pyeong and Baek Ho were friends at school and were in the same class. I was wondering how they met. But if they were so close, how come they never met each others families until now? Also, does Baek Ho now think the Oh family's home is his second home? He is there more than he is at his own house😂. He really is like his Dad- they have obsessive crushes.
I think it’s the cold one bc the mom favours him so much almost like she’s overcompensating because he’s…
It's definitely Jun Ho- I like the way he disguised the moles with his birth date. The sign at the orphanage said to write down the date of birth so it's his birth date.
is it 35mins x 120 eps or are they they super short ones? 120eps is a lot. is it worth it?
More like 27-29 minutes, excluding adverts. I think it's worth it- the episodes go by so quickly and they are daily, from Monday to Friday, so they don't take up too much time. It is a 6-month investment of time, though.
