Even though the romance was lacking a bit as it was not the full focus of the series, the leads chemistry did make up for it alot and the intrigue more than made up for it also. Commander Tan will always have my heart. I was gobsmacked in such a good way with this after ep3. I will be very honest. I thought the ML couldn’t act for shit in the first 2 episodes but I continued because there was just a vibe to the series that made me want so see more. I told myself I would stop if I didn’t like it by episode 5. Well thank God for that judgement call as I would have missed out on what is turning into one of my top 5 Cdramas of all time. The ML has in just 2 episode turned from one of my worse leads to one of my absolute favorite leads. I am completely obsessed with him (in a non creepy way). IMO, This is the first Cdrama lead after Jiang XiaoYu in handsome siblings and most recently Li Xun in Lighter and Princess, that has not been boggled down with false virtue, fake morality and being a goody two shoes. Our male lead is so cunning and strategic and do you know what the best part of it was, he completely owned it and I was there for all of it. Aside from the 1st 2 episodes. He completely shines every time he’s on screen and steals every scene he’s in. I thought the SML was better after watching the 1st 2 episodes but boy was I so wrong. (I Still liked the SML plenty even tho he had no balls in regards to standing up to this dad). Someone talked about his hand/finger gestures. They were indeed mesmerizing and a thing of beauty. I read a review bashing the FL, typical behavior found with a lot of C & K Drama fans. She was a young lady and she was perfect as far as I am concerned. Some people will watch a series where the FL is between 17-23 and expect her to be acting like a 30 year old. Like the hateful keyboard warriors were any better behaved at that age. I can bet they are not even matured at their current age but have the guts to criticize almost every FL for not being perfect enough in their eyes. Smh, so Ridiculous. All FL bashers need to either take several seats at the back or GTFOH with their “misogynistic” or “never ending women hating on their fellow women phenomenon” foolish shit. The plot was good overall. Although not a whole lot of stuff happened in the movie it still had a decent story line. The music didn’t really stand out, honestly I couldn’t even tell if there was music or not. To say the intimate scenes were a joke is putting it mildly, they were doing a whole lot of nothing. The camera angles used to fake all the make out scenes was just stupid and they shouldn’t have bothered with it as it was super obvious. The costume department left something to be desired. While the outfits were pretty decent it felt like they all wore the same outfits for the whole movie. That red light crosswalk scene where he was on the phone was so damn bad, it was ridiculous. The extras were just walking in all different directions and it didn’t make any sense. I blame the director for that scene. The acting was pretty decent but it generally wasn’t a solid movie so I won’t be rewatching this. Overall rating 3.5/10 because I can’t forgive the bait and switch act with all the make out scenes that made it look so fake. I do not recommend

My favorite scene and the best scene IMO was when Wen Kexing came to save Xu in ep31. That majestic entrance (OMG, I am literally visualizing it as I am tying and I can feel the goosebumps) , the music with the entrance (I listen to it all the time), the stare down he had with the “idiotic overcompensating because of his lack of actual talent” windows of heaven royal guard. The guy then asked him, who are you sir? And that smirk (I was in heaven with that smirk) before answering, I’m Wen, Wen Kexing and the whole conversation + Wen kneeling to Xu was just everything to me. I have watched that scene more than 100 times no exaggeration. Actually I try to watch that scene everyday if I can. That’s how obsessed I am with it. I’m sure it’s very clear that I am very obsessed with Wen Kexing and Word of Honor. And I am so not sorry about it. As a matter of fact I just finished rewatching the whole series a few days ago.
My absolute favorite CDrama/Asian actress Zhao Lusi (she’s the best Chinese Actress IMO) + one of my favorite CDrama/Asian actor Yang Yang, then add my favorite genre Martial Arts to the mix, to say I was in TV heaven with this series is an understatement. I have rewatched so many times already and I am currently rewatching while writing this review. One of my favorite lines from this series is when the wicked witch 2nd hand queen’s servant was trying to convince the Lordship so she can avoid going to Feng LanXi’s mothers memorial. She was like in her humble opinion. The Lordship guy was now like, if it’s your humble opinion you should shut up your mouth. I laugh so hard every time I watch that scene. The only thing I hated was Hei-FengXi’s love and devotion to his useless and wicked father. That man was a very jealous and small man. He loved Prince Ju because he thought that one was useless and wouldn’t threaten his power/position little did he know. But Feng LanXi was mysterious and smart, so he was always trying to suppress him. The funny thing is Feng LanXi didn’t even think of usurping his dad at all, especially since he could have done it so easily. Then that 2nd hand Queen step mother of his was definitely a piece of work. I actually liked Feng Qi Wu, she accepted things after she was shut down and contributed massively to the efforts of Prince Feng LanXi. As for Prince Cheng, they tried to give him a redemption arc but I certainly was not there for it after he murdered a bunch of people in cold blood. Prince Huang Chao, I don’t even know what to say about him. He wanted to rule the world so badly he forwent all common sense and deductive reasoning. He was a nice side character though. Yu WuYuan was indeed a worthy villain. He was so unsuspecting that even the extremely intelligent and cunning Hei-FengXi couldn’t see through him at the beginning. I didn’t like how the final fight went though, I kinda expected more and it was anti-climactic to say the least. Bai FengXi ohhhhhh how I love you. Like she always says, she hates killing but if you dare push her and back her to a corner don’t blame her for being ruthless. I loved Ruthless Bai-FengXi, she was badass. Bai-FengXi’s martial sister was dumb as rocks and certainly did not deserve to be anyone’s martial sister much less a sect leader. I wish Bai-FengXi allowed Hei-FengXi to aleast give her a very solid beating that left permanent marks, sue me, i am petty like that. Hei FengXi, our smart cunning leader of Fountain Abode. They understood each other and played well off each other. They may not have ruled the world at the end but they sure as hell ruled it to perfection before going into seclusion. The music here was sooooooo good. I have all the songs on my playlist. Obviously the rewatch value is 10/10 as I have rewatched several times already and currently rewatching at the time of this review. I wish I could give rate it higher than 10 but since I can’t. A very solid 10/10 overall. I highly highly highly recommend. Did I say highly ??
Despite my low rating I didn’t hate this series. But I didn’t like it either. I fast forwarded 75% of it from ep5. I got tired of the repetitive dialogue between Tian and his Mom & Yang and his Mom. Almost the whole cast had the same exact face and expression in very scene for every situation. Yang’s mom was the worst of them followed by Jia. I would have put 1/10 for the acting but Yang, Pin and Jiu’s siblings were the only bright spots in terms of acting and giving different facial expressions to match the scene in an otherwise one face for every scenario acting so I added 2 extra for a 3/10. I don’t know what Jia is doing as a servant if she is this all knowing orchid and different animal species concocting badass murdering queen. She should be the leader of the clans. Someone just happens to always be listening in on other peoples conversations. I can excuse some of the eavesdropping as they made sense, but some were unplanned conversations but somehow someone was magically just there eavesdropping. The one that did it for me was when Jia overheard Bua and Yang talking in ep12. Jia has never gone to Bua’s place before that but all of a sudden she just happens to go over to Bua’s place and overhears that convo. Puh-lease. The overall plot premise sounded interesting that’s why I decided to watch this but after watching the product, I can say it’s not my cup of tea. Although I finished this it was a struggle and the fast forward button was maximumly utilized. I changed my rating from 2/10 to 5/10 because of the last 3 eps. Although I still fast forwarded most of it the last 3eps were the best eps of the whole series, IMO. I’m obviously never going to rewatch this, so the rewatch value is 1/10. 5/10 overall rating.
I am so mad @ this series. I’m absolutely infuriated. To say some of the things that has happened before I dropped this crap, is a load of nonsense rubbish garbage is putting it mildly. Firstly, This turned from a marriage contract to a slave contract. First it was agreed that she would have her own private room but low and behold that didn’t happen, not only did she not get a room, she gets to choose between a closet or sofa. Two (2) very uncomfortable places to sleep while he gets to sleep on a big soft bed. And she’s mandated to read to him every night. I’m getting madder as I am typing this. Secondly, they agreed not to meddle in each others lives but he has been meddling in hers constantly. A girl confessed to you that she likes you and said girl has had a run in with his “wife” in his presence and he knew it wasn’t pleasant, then what did he proceed to do, he brings said girl to his home. He proceeds to command the wife in an authoritative master/servant relationship to go and get him water to drink and she obediently stands up to go do her master’s bidding but then gets stopped by the woman who was brought to the house, with the announcement that she’s in love with her husband. Said husband proceeds to get angry that the wife is not jealous. Thirdly and the most infuriating of all. He literally tells her what to do. Come here, sit here, she literally obeys every command of his and walks meekly with him, she is sassy but her sassiness is fleeting, one minute you will think she’s about to stand up to him, next minute she’s apologizing and doing exactly what he wants. He literally threw her iPad in the water and destroyed the hard work she put in just because he was jealous, and surprise surprise she ended up apologizing to him in that scene. Gosh I am so mad. The scenes that broke the camels back for me was when he gave her the Italy materials to learn and was quizzing her on how to pronounce the words, he held a whip, granted he didn’t whip her but the fact that he held that whip was so wrong on all levels and I was not there for that at all, then after making the girl that confessed to him teach his wife etiquette lessons, she got bruises on her feet, then got sent home and told to write something 100times like she’s a little kid. None of what this guy did to this girl in this series is remotely acceptable IMO and I’m so disappointed that more people aren’t calling out this load of BS But wait for it, all this is all ok somehow because wait for it…. He’s falling in love with her hence all this emotional and implied physical abuse is cute. I am so freaking mad with this BS. I can’t remember the last time I was this mad at anything much less a tv series. I fucking dropped this piece of shitty crap @ ep10 1/10 because I can’t give it 0/10
There is nothing I hate more than the bashing of FLs in C & K Dramas. It’s my biggest pet peeve. But this series pushed all the freaking wrong buttons for me. In my fight to support the actresses of C & K TV industry from the constant bashing from viewers and fans, I vehemently refuse to blame this actress, so I lay my blame and vitriol solely at the feet of the writers and directors of this snooze dumb fest. I have said this several time in some of my review, the writers and directors of C & K Dramas especially CDramas need to STOP portraying their females characters as weak, timid, useless and brainless. Like some people pointed out, this drama looks like it’s target audience are the much younger demographic and I’m guessing if we were to take a survey it will reveal that majority of the watchers are indeed of the younger generation, not to say that no older person will watch it and enjoy it (as said by someone in the comments who said that a close relative of 57yrs watched and liked it), seeing that I have dropped this I’m clearly not part of the older demographic who enjoyed this. Updated Review: I just completed the series and when it ended I was so confused, I was like is this the end. One minute, the sunset text meet request, next we see them with rings, sorry what? I saw a lot of people raving about the hugs. I will agree that some of the hugs were so heartwarming but some were super awkward, stiff and weird. I feel like most of the blame goes to the director for this but I don’t even care to know. Arrrrrgggggghhhhh this could have been such an epic series but IMO it’s not. I did like some things about it but overall its a no for me. Rewatch value is zero but in the review I will have to put one (1) because there is no option for zero (0) and the overall rating for me in this is a 1. As much as I appreciated the angst and decent chemistry I just couldn’t get past the dead fish or mannequin (like the reply to my comment stated) kiss.

The couple in Our Dating Sim most of you are referring to gave us good and realistic kiss scenes without shoving their tongues down each other’s throats so what are some of you saying here. None of you have the right to tell any other person how they should feel about the kiss scenes. If people don’t wanna continue to watch it or rate it low because of the dead fish kisses that’s their choice and right. And it’s also your choice to give it the highest rate if those type of kisses do it for you. I’m currently at episode 8. The chemistry, angst and story was going well until the dead fish kiss in ep7. I rather there is no kiss at all than give me this type of dead fish, frozen statue, no mouth movement kiss. No one IRL kisses like that. Anyways this is a 5 for me for now. So because he “loves her”(of which he knew her personality very well, his own sister even warned him that he will regret it) she was a person that would rather die than do what she doesn’t want to do (she literally knelt/bowed in that snow for hours because she refused to apologize/beg the emperor). He didn’t even consult her before agreeing to marry Erqing. Regardless of his reasons he made the decision to marry someone else. Your talking modern days, you think any modern woman wants to marry a man that marries another woman? She should have what exactly? be his concubine to Erqing being the main wife? Or she should never fall in love for the rest of her life. We need to normalize not telling people especially women whom to love, how to love, to what extent they should love. Loving the emperor or anyone was solely her choice to make. Firstly, This turned from a marriage contract to a slave contract.
First it was agreed that she would have her own private room but low and behold that didn’t happen, not only did she not get a room, she gets to choose between a closet or sofa. Two (2) very uncomfortable places to sleep while he gets to sleep on a big soft bed. And she’s mandated to read to him every night. I’m getting madder as I am typing this.
Secondly, they agreed not to meddle in each others lives but he has been meddling in hers constantly. A girl confessed to you that she likes you and said girl has had a run in with his “wife” in his presence and he knew it wasn’t pleasant, then what did he proceed to do, he brings said girl to his home. He proceeds to command the wife in an authoritative master/servant relationship to go and get him water to drink and she obediently stands up to go do her master’s bidding but then gets stopped by the woman who was brought to the house, with the announcement that she’s in love with her husband. Said husband proceeds to get angry that the wife is not jealous.
Thirdly and the most infuriating of all. He literally tells her what to do. Come here, sit here, she literally obeys every command of his and walks meekly with him, she is sassy but her sassiness is fleeting, one minute you will think she’s about to stand up to him, next minute she’s apologizing and doing exactly what he wants. He literally threw her iPad in the water and destroyed the hard work she put in just because he was jealous, and surprise surprise she ended up apologizing to him in that scene. Gosh I am so mad. The scenes that broke the camels back for me was when he gave her the Italy materials to learn and was quizzing her on how to pronounce the words, he held a whip, granted he didn’t whip her but the fact that he held that whip was so wrong on all levels and I was not there for that at all, then after making the girl that confessed to him teach his wife etiquette lessons, she got bruises on her feet, then got sent home and told to write something 100times like she’s a little kid.
None of what this guy did to this girl in this series is remotely acceptable IMO and I’m so disappointed that more people aren’t calling out this load of BS
But wait for it, all this is all ok somehow because wait for it…. He’s falling in love with her hence all this emotional and implied physical abuse is cute.
I am so freaking mad with this BS. I can’t remember the last time I was this mad at anything much less a tv series.

We are know that movies and series are scripted and then acted but for movies and series to be great they need to not feel like acting but even if it does feel like acting let it atleast be good acting, well to say this one failed woefully in that aspect is such an understatement. It felt like acting and not even in a good way.
I tried to endure this and continue watching but the more I watched the more I felt like I was not only losing brain cells but also forcing myself to watch it. So I dropped this.
1/10 is being generous as there is no option for 0/10.
It wasn’t bad. It was fluffy and cute but the plot was basically recycled every episode and I agree with someone’s comment it was so boring I had to hype myself and try to convince myself that this was good or going to get better. It just didn’t for me. Seeing how this has good reviews, I have concluded that it’s just not my cup of tea. Which is fine.

The character Tian had one resting crying face throughout the series and the other one Phu had one smirk/smug resting face too. You are mad at your parents for saving your life and telling you what to do but you are so in love with Phu who also tells you what to do.
Yeah right.
To say I’m so mad that I watched this series in its entirety is once again an understatement.
I fast forwarded 75% of the time from episode 7. That’s how I managed to get through this.

Anyways it’s not unwatchable, so there’s that.

I just completed the series and when it ended I was so confused, I was like is this the end. One minute, the sunset text meet request, next we see them with rings, sorry what?
I saw a lot of people raving about the hugs. I will agree that some of the hugs were so heartwarming but some were super awkward, stiff and weird. I feel like most of the blame goes to the director for this but I don’t even care to know.
Arrrrrgggggghhhhh this could have been such an epic series but IMO it’s not. I did like some things about it but overall its a no for me. Rewatch value is zero but in the review I will have to put one (1) because there is no option for zero (0) and the overall rating for me in this is a 1. As much as I appreciated the angst and decent chemistry I just couldn’t get past the dead fish or mannequin (like the reply to my comment stated) kiss.

Everyone who has watched or is watching and wants to rate, reserve the right to rate how ever they see fit in regards to how the series made them feel or how much they enjoyed it.
Just because you enjoyed the dead fish kisses that does not give you the right to project that to people ( and call them names such as tasteless) who expected a little bit more passion in the kiss. No one is saying that they should shove their tongues down each other’s throat. The couple in Our Dating Sim most of you are referring to gave us good and realistic kiss scenes without shoving their tongues down each other’s throats so what are some of you saying here.
None of you have the right to tell any other person how they should feel about the kiss scenes. If people don’t wanna continue to watch it or rate it low because of the dead fish kisses that’s their choice and right. And it’s also your choice to give it the highest rate if those type of kisses do it for you.
I’m currently at episode 8. The chemistry, angst and story was going well until the dead fish kiss in ep7. I rather there is no kiss at all than give me this type of dead fish, frozen statue, no mouth movement kiss. No one IRL kisses like that.
Anyways this is a 5 for me for now. May rate it lower or higher depending on how the rest of the episodes go.
BTW I didn’t know there was going to be a third. Tried watching the second one but I couldn’t get into it. I knew there was no scheming mastermind in that (which like I said in my comment, that’s more my jam) but I still thought I would atleast enjoy it but I couldn’t even get past ep2. 🤷♀️
She should have what exactly? be his concubine to Erqing being the main wife? Or she should never fall in love for the rest of her life.
We need to normalize not telling people especially women whom to love, how to love, to what extent they should love. Loving the emperor or anyone was solely her choice to make. It might seem selfish to you (hence your long rant) but at the end of the day, it was her choice, the operative word being “HER” not your choice for her.
