It's not that she favors CY (the niece) more. She doesn't want to treat her bad as she has driven the niece's mother away. She's trying to be fair but because she's always open in praising CY and scolding CSS everytime, it seems like she prefers CY over CSS. In all her convo with her husband, sworn sister, and sister-in-law (the 3rd aunt) we can see that she's aware of her daughter's good sides but she can't tolerate her "rebellious" trait. She likes CY because CY is obedient and doesn't talk back to the elders.

Even CY knows that the mother loves CSS more.

Yup, I agree.
She loves her but she feels guilty for abandoning CSS and wants to "correct" her unruly behaviors so CSS can fit-in in the society. However her way is wrong as she's too strict with CSS. Unfortunately, she doesn't balance it with some compliments or heart-to-heart talk with CSS so both can see from each other povs.
She's the representative of the old-schools who always criticize, compare their offspring to someone else's, and teach with iron-fist.

Pretty close to the novel so the angsty part shouldn't be too long. Their separation is really heartbreaking but LBY relentlessly pursues CSS after he returns. CSS can see how much he loves her because he becomes more open with her. It's very emotional when he asks for her forgiveness.

Oh and I can't wait to see when LBY asks YS to cancel engagement with CSS. Hopefully they stick to the novel because it's like an ambush. Lol.

Yes. The fight scene is really interesting. I can't wait to see Uk improves with the spell too.
Sometimes I don't want him to reveal that he has made progress but another time I wanna see him to show off. 😂😂

OMG. I just realize it after reading the comments here. No wonder I thought the third uncle looks familiar. Lol. One of my fav characters in WRTW and LLTG though he has less screentime.

Yes, that's one of my concerns too. I'm afraid that I'll keep comparing those two. But the biggest concern is I won't be able to handle the angst. Since it's based on historical events, I imagine it's gonna break my heart to pieces.

I watch the korean version (scarlet heart ryeo) and had a massive breakheart til now. Wanna watch the chinese version but I"m afraid I couldn't survive. 😅

Get better in a way that both realize they couldn't be loving mother-daughter at all so they become more courteous/respecful to each other. There are times when CSS asked for her mom's advices during her time in the palace but their relationship aren't turbulent anymore.

It was an impulsive decision. He already liked CSS since the first time he saw her but he waited. Then, he missed his chance because CSS & LY got engaged. So, he doesn't want to wait anymore.

No worries, she will be backed up by the empress and the emperor. So though she faces lots of bullying from the princesses, she always gets away. And LBY is always by her side too.

About destroying CSS prospect, I tried to see it from the parent's pov and it's in indeed difficult. They were put between a rock and a hard place. The parents might not intend to do so, but in that situation when they were caught surprised and had to choose between rejecting the proposal because of LBY's background (the emperor even asked them if they aren't satisfied with LBY) or refusing it by demeaning themselves (not only CSS, but also them as parents & emperor's subjects), they might choose the latter than the former.
Accepting the proposal isn't an option for them, maybe because the parents knew that with her personality CSS couldn't deal with LBY (as he's very domineering) and his family (the Ling family) then she would suffer greatly.
I'm not sure if it's appropriate for them to ask the emperor to give them time to contemplate as well. Will it be seen as questioning the emperor's good judgement? I dunno.

All in all, I think that this scene is intentionally written this way mainly to show how resolute LBY is about his love to CSS. The parents stated CSS flaws and this leads to LBY publicly declared that he accepted CSS despite all the flaws. CSS also had the chance to see LBY's seriousness then she herself could decide to marry him.

The mother might think her love as "tough love" and I agree with you that she should embrace CSS or praise occasionally to balance her strict demeanor. CSS parents play "good cop bad cop" and it actually backfires.

I read some raw translated parts of the novel and I love how LBY "flirted" with her and the emperor even put on a show with LBY to make CSS reconciled with LBY after their quarrelling. Lol.
