i believe there is something else , it's no way it's just that reason for the divorce .. i believe there is something…
It was the little things. Her wanting to watch a horror movie when he wanted to relax. Her turning the aircon off when he was too hot, ect. His character flaws, as I explained above, are poor communication and avoiding conflict. Whether the FL would have conceded to divorce or not, we won't know, but the important thing is he believed she wouldn't.
I really like the FL, and she is a good person. But she's not perfect, and I strongly empathise with her, because I have much the same character flaws.
He did not want to try counselling. He knew the FL would want to try that, and he just wanted to avoid the conflict that would cause. Cheating would be a quick out, and then it would be over. He wanted out so badly that he was willing to be financially ruined. He wanted out before a child happened, because then he knew there would be no going back.
I am sceptical of the 10 years, but living and sharing your space with someone , even someone you love, can be hard. They probably should have tried living together before they got married, but that might've raised a few eyebrows in their culture, so it makes some degree of sense why they didn't know entirely what it would be like.
We clearly have different opinions on what marriage is. In my culture, it's not particularly important, and I know very few who have been married. All of them got a divorce within 3-5 years, so it's clearly not something easy. And some people have a tendency to seek the easy route out, which is clearly one of the ML's flaws. Though I do agree, the cheating was a bit much and very hurtful, but I've seen so much Kdrama logic over the years that this could be considered reasonable in comparison to some of the wild things characters do for poorer reasons.

I think giving us another reason now would be shittier writing. Here, he's clearly got the character flaws in a)poor communication and b)inability to stand up for himself and now the next several episodes can be spent addressing those problems and giving character growth. Instead of introducing unnecessary plot points and neglecting the characters for the sake of drama.
It also gives the FL character flaws of her own - she's not good at recognising when she needs to compromise, and she's very hot-headed when she gets worked up - these are the traits the drama clearly showed were the reasons he was driven to the choices he made (as well as above character flaws).
I like how the end of their marriage, although triggered by the ML, was the fault of them both (though the FL is just realising this). There's some great comments below explaining how legally, it's really quite difficult to get a divorce. In short, the ML did not believe the FL would agree to end the marriage amiably (she would try to fix things - he just wanted out), and so he had to do something that would be unforgivable and thus make her want to let him go.
This is a far more interesting show than I've been led to believe. It probably helps that I actually like legal…
You must've been in luck last year then. Legal dramas were almost all we got. And yeah, definitely recognising Oh Ji-Hyeok in a lot of his mannerisms, which I like, because The Good Detective is one of my favourite dramas.
i believe there is something else , it's no way it's just that reason for the divorce .. i believe there is something…
Yeah no, I think that he has a perfectly justifiable reason already. If there was something else, some identifiable reason he could no longer be married, then he would have been more honest.
Huge fan of Kang So Ra! Hasn't the ML played a lot of bad guys?
He's played the 2ML in a lot of dramas. Not all of those were "good guys" but most recently, he was one of the leads in The Good Detective, and in that he was a main protagonist.
Maybe lots of young people won't watch this drama because the female lead is not pretty like other actresses but…
She's plenty beautiful, she is simply not entirely youthful. The lines on her face are delicate, and I think they also make her look a bit knowledgeable and wise.
personally I am really hoping that's not the case, him leaving because he was unhappy and unable to tell her is…
Yeah, if he couldn't have children, he would have just told her. That's a much easier, more straightforward factual problem than just, "I'm unhappy," which can be hard to express.
Marriage is the only contract in the world where you need the consent of both parties to cancel it. The only one.…
Jumping in here, to say thanks for the clarification. I'm personally unfamiliar with the legalities of marriage, even in my own, much less conservative country. To my mind, a divorce has always been classified as just a slightly more official break-up, as it requires paperwork (I don't know many people who have ever even married) ... so while I understood the MLs reasonings, I didn't understand why he considered his actions necessary - they seemed way over the top.
Your character analysis was spot on, though I do wonder why he became a lawyer if he doesn't like conflict - his job is to literally win an argument, though maybe it's only personal conflict he wants to avoid.
I like both their characters, they have both strengths and flaws. I understand the ML and the FL, well, she reminds me so much of myself that I can't hate her.
Wow, they actually did it! I thought I was going to drop this drama this episode, but they convinced me. Kind of. The MLs reasoning is the most believable after actual cheating. No dumb, dramatic plottish reasons for it! Just, he really, really needs some character growth and to learn communication skills.
Also I'm getting sick of this hate I'm seeing on the FL. Like, she acted how she did according to what she believed (and the ML went to great lengths to ensure she believed) and so her hurt, and therefore anger and sometimes irrational feelings were fully justified. Her personality is forceful, righteous and a little single-minded (like me haha). Also, the heart is not neat and linear, she can date the 2ML and still have complicated leftover feelings for the ML.
These characters are flawed, and therefore their decisions are not always... the smartest.
Episode 4 was extra fun. What an emotional punch that twist was. It's all a bit too neat and easy for an investigation,…
Aaand episode 5 was boring. The whole premise needed more context to be believable, and it needed a stronger build-up because the intended emotional impact was so off. At the very least that arc needed more than one episode, but I'm also glad it only lasted one episode. Hopefully episode 6 is better.
Don't worry, feel free to express your opinion, thats why MDL exists. If you don't enjoy something, don't force…
Thanks. I was anxious posting this because in the past, some people have been incredibly nasty when I have expressed my honest opinion on certain dramas. To the point where now, I wonder why it's even worth commenting. And I'm not even sure why I did here.
