I didn't really mind the age gap before but guys, it's starting to get old. I used to like dramas with age gap between the leads before but after so many repetitive dramas, I'm getting tired! I still wouldn't mind age gap between leads for a HISTORICAL drama but this is getting old for modern dramas. I can alr list similar dramas based on the summary above:
- Witch's romance
- I need romance 3
- Noona who buys me food
- Secret love affair
- Biscuit teacher and star candy
- I do, I do
- Flower boy ramyun shop
- Dal ja's spring
- kimi wa pet
I purposely didn't mention the really popular ones like Goblin, and Mister because I don't think they have as much in common except for age gap.

I really want to like the summary, but it sounds very cliche to me right now that I'm just going to wait until the first episode airs and read the comments before saying anything about this drama. Like the others said, the drama hasn't aired yet but I would like it if they could come up with more interesting plots for age gap dramas(like goblin).

I'm not saying i hate age gap in particular(I'm a fan of them especially if both actors are veterans) but the stories are getting more predictable and boring...

I'm curious to know the exact reason why others hated it. I thought the actors were good and so were the OSTs. Is it the plot?

I think people would have liked it more if Hyun Jae wasn't Ji Hoon's father. The drama would have been a lot more simple and less complicated that way. Like Gwang Jae thinks Ji Hoon is the father but actually someone else is or maybe Gwang Jae and Bo Hee were dating but nothing much progressed cuz Gwang Jae felt guilty towards Hyun Jae as he was dating her behind his back and living happily while Hyun Jae was missing.

Why I think so:
1. We wouldn't be weirded out by the fact that both the "father" and son loved the same girl and the father falling for a girl who was the same age as his son.
2. We wouldn't be weirded out by the fact that the "father" and son are of similar age and became friends.
3. It would no longer be that necessary for him to have to go back to the past to "make amends with Bo Hee and his future son". Him staying in the present while having a son his age makes it seem as though he has given up on his son and a relationship with Bo Hee. If they were going to make him the father of Hyun Jae, he should have rekindled his love with Bo Hee and tried to make things work, which would make a lot more sense since Bo Hee had waited for him for years before she moved on.
4. Bo Hee not finding out about his time travel was a bit too much for me. She deserved to know after she having suffered for so many years! But if he wasn't the father then this wouldn't be a problem at all. Even if she did find out, nothing much will change also.

IMPORTANT REASON:
5.The plot of him being Ji Hoon's father was very unnecessary in this drama. When they revealed it at the start, I thought things would get interesting especially when Hyun Jae found out about it but that reveal part was very poorly done. Even a genius cannot guess that their father had time travelled to the future and was currently the same age as him. His reaction to it was also just "I don't think of you as my father. My father is Gwang Jae." like WTH? Then what's the point of all of this "drama"???? Just to show how similar father and son were when it comes to being an idol? To make Gwang Jae hate him? It's okay for Ji Hoon to want to be an idol even if he didn't have Hyun Jae's genes in him, jeez. And Gwang Jae alr has enough reasons to dislike him even without him abandoning his pregnant gf drama.
Also, if we change Ji Hoon's father to be Gwang Jae, nothing much of the drama would change(even Gwang Jae wooing Bo Hee part because we can add that in the past he felt guilty and neglected Bo Hee) which also shows how insignificant this plot point was and can be easily done without.
6. Is it just me or do I feel like its similar to tunnel? Tunnel did a good job in showing the main lead as a father figure in his future daughter's life and he did make an effort to go back to the past whereas in this drama, we take the father to be nonexistent and we get a childish friend of a father instead who had no interest in acting like a father. It was too forced for me and again, better to do without.

Also, the reveal at the end about the reason why he disappeared could have lasted a few more eps and they could have also closed up all the gaps. I can tell they were still trying to make it funny and less "tragic/sad" and thanks to that I thoroughly enjoyed watching it until the end but it impacted the pacing and plot a lot for me. They wanted us to feel sad for him but that didn't really happen for me. I could care less about what really happened to him in 1994 because the whole progression of the plot made me not want to care about the him in the past. Like Hyun Jae had no intentions of going back to the past, and no one really cared whether or not he ended up with Bo Hee and his son so in the end, it's best that his past self in 1994 disappeared so everyone else is happy. Why should I care about the reason? The drama didn't give me any reason to want to know what happened. They should have done a better job at this, or just make him come straight from 1994 instead of 1993.

I know I wrote a lot of complaints here, but I seriously did enjoy watching this a lot and alr rewatched this drama three times. It's an enjoyable drama, but it would be more loved by others if they could make a few changes to the plot.

Here is my opinion on this:
NEGATIVE: I would say, plot wise, this drama is ridiculous and unrealistic in many aspects with so many plot holes. Main couple matching is also ridiculous. If you are the type to be put off by this, just close this tab and don't even bother. I doubt you will be able to get through the whole drama without feeling like you want to throw your laptop/phone/tv.

POSITIVE: But if you throw all logic aside like I did, you might enjoy watching the drama. As ridiculous as the plot may be, it was unique and the comedy aspect was very well done. Romance was cute and funny even if the match seemed impossible. If you are the type who loves comedy and don't mind ridiculous plot development, you would love watching this!

Overall, I would give it a 10/10 (I rate based on enjoyment and NOTHING else and I'm sure a lot would disagree with this rating). I found myself laughing throughout the majority of the drama and I didn't want to stop watching this at all so I think that's enough reason for this to deserve a 10/10 rating just purely based on enjoyment.

But if I were to rate this drama, taking other factors into consideration, I would give this a 7-8/10.

Honestly, enjoyment is a huge factor that I take into consideration when I'm rating dramas so as long as a drama keeps me entertained, I give it a high rating because I personally feel that enjoying the drama is what is most important, more than the OSTs, the poor plot development, horrible acting(I mean if it was that horrible I wouldn't be able to enjoy watching it anyway, right?).

If it had the romance tag too, I would have just pretended this was Gu Family Book Season 2. Can't wait to see Suzy and Lee Seung Gi together again. They were amazing in gu family book and both of them have come a long way in their careers. Looking forward to see how much more Suzy has improved in her acting.
To those complaining about Suzy, I agree she is not the best actress but she is trying her best to improve and I can see it, why can't you? Acting isn't easy and Suzy has been taking on different roles over the years.
On Dear My Friends Oct 16, 2018
I didn't think I would enjoy this drama as much as I did. I thought it would be a boring drama about the sad lives of elderly but I couldn't be more wrong. The more I watched, the more connected I felt to the characters and loved the character growth, friendships, the relationships, and the characters. I loved Kwang soo's and Go Hyun Jung's roles in this drama especially. I liked how much Kwang soo cared for his mother in this drama, when her other sons neglected her. Go Hyun Jung's love hate relationship with her mother is something I could relate to very well, and her romantic relationship with Jo In Sung was awesome as well. I laughed, cried and learnt a lot of life lessons along the way.
I also envied the strong bonds between the elderly friends even after so many years had passed. I've lost contact with a lot of my friends from the past and wish that I wouldn't be lonely in the future and would also have friends like them by my side.
The only thing I would want them to change is the number of episodes. I think I wouldn't mind watching 20-32 ep of this drama.

This is easily a 10/10 for me! Would love a season 2 with different characters but similar vibes. If anyone is thinking whether to watch this or not, well like I always say, give the first 1-2 eps a try. If you don't like it, just drop it, no one is forcing you to continue watching anyway. If you like it, then great, I'm sure you would love the rest of the episodes as well. Have fun watching!

In case you are curious what happened to Lee Sung Yeon, nothing happened for his character, which is why I'm annoyed. It's as though he just appeared to make the main couple fall in love and disappeared after the couple got together.

Best rom com of the year for me! I feel like the storyline could have been better, especially the plot about the brothers, but the characters and their relationships totally made me forget about the cliche plot. I loved the development of the romance, the chemistry of the main couple was off the charts and the last few episodes reminded me a bit of Healer with all the sweetness overload. There were four couples in total in this drama and I loved every single one of them!

I also like how the main couple's personalities didn't change drastically at the end of the show. No matter how hopelessly romantic one might be, it's not that easy to change your personality within a few months of dating, especially when you are an adult. Since dramas were all just fiction, I didn't say anything much when the main lead suddenly changes from a narcissistic CEO to a "kind" or "nice" person by the end of 16 eps but honestly, its very unrealistic and I'm glad I can finally say this today.

If you are a lover of rom coms, give this one a try, you will most likely love it!

I would have given it a 9-9.5/10 because I didn't like what they did with Lee Sung Yeon's character but since I always rate dramas purely based on my enjoyment, this drama is 100000000000000/10 for me! :D

I think a rating of 8.7/10 for this drama on mydramalist is just right. It's not really the best drama considering the plot itself isn't that great but for a rom com, this is one of the best. It didn't change genres from rom com to melo then rom com at the last ep like a lot of rom coms I've watched. It was funny from start to the end and stayed true to the rom com genre.

For those who are turned off by the sad ending, just think that the ending is similar to gu family book where the both of them meet again in the future and fall in love. (I rmb watching a video of this scene but idk if it was in the last episode or fan made). But anyway, for any historical dramas that have tragic endings, I always imagine that they have their own happy ending in the 21st century to calm down my poor heart so please give this drama a try especially if you love historicals.

I'm seriously OBSESSED with Choi Jin Hyuk, how is it that every single drama he manages to steal my heart within 10 seconds of his appearance. His voice, his gaze, his looks, everything is making me fall for him, hard. I've watched nearly all of his dramas and this was the drama which made me fall in love with him. I've watched emergency couple before this but he wasn't as impressive there. Tunnel made me swoon over him for MONTHS and I'm still not over that drama(going to rewatch it for the 6th time now). Panda and hedgehog was my first drama of his and for some reason, my eyes were always attracted to him despite him being only the second lead. Who would have thought I would become a huge fan of his a year later?

His love story was amazing and I wished his story was a drama of its own and LSG and Suzy's love story could have been season 2. I felt the main couple's love story fell short to CJH's love story. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy watching the main couple a lot, LSG is a favorite actor of mine and Suzy is really good at picking dramas, most of her dramas have good stories and her acting is slowly improving over the years. But after watching the wonderful, heartbreaking parents' love story, the main couple's story paled in comparison. If I don't make any comparisons, this drama was amazing. I loved the main couple, especially the female lead's love, belief and trust towards the ML and she accompanied him throughout the drama despite all the challenges. She's the kind of female lead I want all historical dramas to have.

This drama is easily 10/10 for me. If you want any similar dramas with badass and smart female lead, watch empress ki. It's AMAZING.

Wow, all 3 completed dramas she acted as female leads have ratings of 8.4/10! I think that's amazing since she's only 23. I love her and think she's awesome but most of the main characters she play have similar personalities. I think there is room for improvement in terms of acting and wish she would take on more different roles to challenge her skills and grow further as an actress. But for a 23 year old, her accomplishments are great! Looking forward to watching her new dramas :)

Death is also part of human nature. I mean if no one die in an action, revenge overcome obstacles drama then what's…
I do get what you are saying and I totally agree with you. i don’t really mind deaths in historical dramas but it’s just that i personally felt this drama had too many deaths in a short period of time, especially after her parents died all of a sudden. I was thinking that they could have hinted a bit more that the water immortal was being targeted. What I mind more was about his wife’s death. I really felt bad for her, she did nothing but sacrifice a lot all her life. And soon after, one by one a lot of people started dying.
Yes, death is part of human nature and I wouldn't mind it in normal historicals. (I'm actually a fan of tragic dramas.) But considering that we are talking about immortals here and not humans, what would their lives be like after death? If they are reincarnated as humans or other immortals, then why would some immortals be afraid of dying when they have already lived for thousands of years? Why did everyone try so hard to protect Jin Mi in the human world? Or is it depending on the way they die, they either become humans or their souls are destroyed is it?

Title Ashes of Love Spoiler
9.5 for me. It was 10/10 for me until Jin Mi's parents died. One after another, everyone kept dying and it reminded me of scarlet heart. I felt like their deaths weren't justified. This drama was so good until ep 36(or 37). It felt as though everything changed because of her parents' death and the drama took a 180 degree turn. I know it was necessary for Jin Mi's character growth and it was a big obstacle Xu Feng must overcome in order for them to be together, which was the major part of their love trial. But why does everyone else have to die >.< In the end, I felt as though that love trial ended up ruining a lot of others' lives while the main couple had their happy ending. I wouldn't mind all of this if the drama didn't have the lighthearted historical rom feel in the first half of the drama with a few evil characters trying to ruin everything. The sudden switch from lighthearted to melo/tragic was what made me hate all of these deaths even if they were necessary.

I still loved the main couple but I didn't like how Jin Mi reacted harshly towards Xu Feng through the majority of this drama even if her reason was justified. I'm seriously very obsessed with Xu Feng, he never gave up on his love for her after all he had been through and all he had given up for her. Their love story in the mortal world was the best!

In the end, I still love this drama to bits even if I do have some complains about the way it turned out to be. I loved Jin Mi's character growth throughout the drama. I was conflicted at times between Xu Feng and Night immortal. This drama was beautifully filmed and edited, I was awed by a lot of romantic scenes. The love stories were all beautiful. I like how they tested their love for each other but Jin Mi's lack of love at times seriously irritated me, especially when the Night immortal fixed the Unfeeling love pill and when Xu Feng asked her whether she wanted to marry him and she said no, i was devastated.

I believe I'm entitled to have my own opinion of the drama. If anyone dislikes whatever I've mentioned here, keep it to yourself unless you believe I've misunderstood some parts of the drama. Like I had mentioned earlier, I am in love with this drama, just that I dislike how they switched from lighthearted to tragic within one episode(that's how it seemed like to me. The first half didn't seem that tragic, I felt it was cute and sweet)

As someone who has also watched TMOPB, I would like to say, both dramas are equally good and are amazing in different ways. I loved this drama for the romance while I loved TMOPB for character growth. Both might seem to have similar settings at first glance, but when you look deeper, both are a lot different. These two are my most favorite fantasy historical chinese dramas at the moment.

This is just my opinion for the ENDING. Warning: HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD!

I would have preferred him staying in 2017 instead of going back to the past. Yes, there would be a lot of problems in terms of his identity and stuff but like the ending of him going back to the past made the drama seem even more complicated. It made me wonder what's the purpose of him trying so hard to catch the culprit in the future when he's going to go back to the past and change everything that happened in these 15 episodes. He's the only one who is going to have all these memories and people who had died in the course of this drama had supposedly been "saved". That ending made him going back to the past from the future for the first time seem very pointless and this whole story we just watched would never take place again in the future.

This was just something that came to my mind when I was rewatching this drama for the fourth time. I still do give it a 10/10 because the ending was still a happy ending and I did like it. The drama was really well done with all the plot twists and interesting characters. If I overlook the details on their investigation techniques, this is the best korean crime thriller drama i've ever watched. I liked this more than signal(which is another fav of mine that totally needs a season 2).
