The dialogues are well written and clear so if you understand Mandarin, there is no reason to not to turn off…
Same here. I occasionally turn on English subs if I want to see the English translation of some words and phrases (or sentences at times). When I turn on English subs, I ended up focusing on 2 things: the actual dialogue in Mandarin and the English translation. So I get distracted.
Episode 20 is another one with many happenings and revelations. I like that the drama has sustained its excitement,…
I'm cheering for Xiao Wu Yi and Xie Jia Yu as their bond and relationship continue to grow and deepen.
I'm glad the empress dowager finally falls and her crimes are exposed! Because of her ambition and thirst for power, she did not spare even her own son from taking the poison that killed the other princes.
I'm happy that He Yuan Ji goes against the empress dowager and gives the ultimatum to the He clan - side with the ED and go down with her, or side with her and start a new chapter for the He clan. You go girl! Also, the one-on-one confrontation between her and the ED is well-acted by both.
Xie Jia Yu may regret later that she spared Li Le Jun's life. But in letting the heavens decide LLJ's fate, XJY has, in a way, freed herself from whatever will happen to LLJ in Beiqin.
The emperor is a wise ruler. If not for his deteriorating health, I believe he would have done more. I love Peter Sheng's portrayal! I hope he will be given lead roles again.

Episode 19 The Empress is one thing but gosh, itโs the Eunuch that I want to see die a very painful, miserable…
I don't think Yuanji is a spy for the empress, but more of forced by circumstances. But I guess we'll know more in ep20, which I'm about to start in a bit ๐.
I'm also wondering the same thing about who will be the next emperor. If neither Xiao Wu Yi nor Li Mao will take the throne, maybe the current emperor will somehow be cured and continue with his reign? Or maybe Li Mao will have a redemption (but I myself am not convinced of this)?
That ending scene in episode 19 is just...wow! Xie Jia Yu's confession, her heart-to-heart talk with Xiao Wu Yi and his response/reaction tug at my heart โค๏ธ.
XJY: ่งๆ ่กฃ๏ผๆๅฟๆฆไบไฝ (the same words that XWY said said when he confessed to her)
I checked again the English translation ๐, and this time it's "Xiao Wu Yi, I have fallen for you." I think it's right in this context.
I normally watch with Chinese subs but for Xiao Wu Yi's confession, I can't help but turn on the English sub to see how it was translated, and it's a good one! I love it!
XWY: "Xie Jia Yu, my heart belongs to you." (่ฐขๅ้ฑผ๏ผๆๅฟๆฆไบไฝ )
Neo Hou perfectly expressed the longing and affections that Xiao Wu Yi has for Xie Jia Yu as he made his confession ๐ฅฐ.
I like it that the emperor, dying as he was, was a smart ruler, not as dumb as his ambitious mom, who would even…
I like Peter Sheng's portrayal of the emperor! And yes, depsite his deteriorating condition, he is a smart ruler who at least cares what happens to Nanye and not merely focused on his own power.
Regarding this:
"Key to The Phoenix Heart" resembles oldschool 20-episodes TVB dramas of the golden years.
~ That's also one of the things I noticed, especially with the fast pacing and development of the story.

For me, it matches XWY's expressions of deep longing and his affections for XJY ๐.
