I can understand the low Douban rating for TLB. Like I said, those animations scenes and the lack of kisses likely disappointed those fans in China. But lots of us international fans could understand why animations were used, and the lack of kisses.

In Tencent's streaming platform, TLB ranked just behind YAMG. As far as Tencent is concerned, both are great success, perhaps YAMG more so than TLB. YAMG likely made more money, because of all the product placements, and that wedding scene that caused so many people to pay extra money to watch in advance.

For those of us who are Reba fans, we should rejoice. When 2021 ends, she will have two very succcessful dramas. Hardly anything to cry about.

And now that TLB has won that prize, we should be so so happy! This is a time for celebration, not regret what could have been.

TBW will definitely be better than TLB in terms of views, as both Reba and Allen are high traffic stars and the source material is really good. The source material for TLB was not even complete, when this drama was filmed. The two scriptwrites pretty much had to write half of the story. LOA will also be great; great script, two big stars.

For Reba, 2022 will likely be even better than 2021.

We cannot compare the two. YAMG is a modern romance drama. All the kisses and romantic scenes in YAMG met or exceeded viewers' expectations. TLB is a war drama, with greater emphasis on the character growth of Li Changge and some of other other main characters (eg. Leyan and Hou Du).

The decision to use animations in TLB was made by the producer of TLB (and likely the director also). One interview given by the producer hinted that she regretted that decision. But once made, nothing can be done. If all the war scenes were live action, there is no doubt there will be more views in China. Or those kisses. If Wu Lei did not have that clause, we would have seen some kisses. And, personally, I suspect, if the ML is a little older, despite LCG's character, Reba would have hugged A'sun a little closer.

But, like I said, winning this prestigious prize in America clearly showed that TLB is a great drama despite some of those shortcomings. All the pluses (great acting, great cinematography, great OSTs, and BGM, etc), convinced all the judges and the drama won best TV series. And, it won against dramas with much higher views in China, and against dramas from many other countries.

All Reba supporters; in fact, all supporters of all the other actors, should be proud of TLB.

Haha. Legend of Fei has two very high traffic stars (ZLY and WYB), while TLB only has one (our dear Reba).

Online articles that I read actually mentioned that both Legend of Fei and TLB peform below expectations in China. They expected Legend of Fei to be much better, because of mainly ZLY, and TLB, because of Reba. Most of the negative comments on TLB were directed at the use of animations and lack of a mouth-to-mouth, none of which can be blamed on Reba. The lack of kiss, we cannot also blame Wu Lei. He likely signed an earlier contract to have his first online kiss in that movie of his.

Some articles also said the lack of chemistry between Reba and Wu Lei resulted in less than expected views. By that, they likely refer to the lack of feel of affection between Li Changge and A'sun. But, we need to remember that Li Changge was a tomboy through and through. Cannot expect her to embrace A'sun, the way QJJ embraced Yu Tu in YAMG. Reba and Wu Lei did enough with their eye gazes, forehead kisses and hugs to convince many of us of their love and affection for each other. We can also clearly see, they were willing to die for each other, and by the end, were technically married.

Now that TLB has won this prize in America, it is a clear indication that TLB is a great drama, despite only 3.3B views in China. I mean, Legend of Fei did not win, despite having more views in China. Or even Douluo Continent, which has even more views than Legend of Fei.

I have read your comments. Does this mean English is not your first language? If so, you could have been hampered by language issue when you read the English translated version. What is your first language? If Chinese, maybe you can try reading the original novel in Chinese? See if that is better. If neither English nor Chinese is your first language, then there is a big language issue here.

Regardless, I think you do not need to worry too much. Why? Because, when the director adapts this, he will visualise everything from the drama viewers' point of view. Meaning, he will have very good story telling skill, and we have a nice drama. Are we surprised that lots of stuff in the novel are focused on Ji Yunhe? Not really. The novelist is a female; so she wants her main protaganist to be a female. But, when the book is adapted, it will usually be more balanced. Greater role will be given to the merman, Changyi.

And since the episode count has been reduced, I suspect, many things related to the minor characters could be shortened. May still be there, but with far less screen time than one would expect, after reading the novel. With good story telling skill, this can be done. Many viewers have criticised Cdramas for being very draggy, with far too many side characters. Maybe this is why the production team at TBW decided to trim the episode count and made it more compact, by focusing the story more on the main couple??

Qiao started doing voice acting in 2009. By now, she has done it for countless of dramas/movies. That is a lot of experience we are talking about! We hardly need to be stressed that she is dubbing for Reba in TBW.

I am not 100% sure, but maybe Allen showed greater variety of facial expressions throughout the drama, and Liu Yu Ning showed less?? And facial expression is usually used to express different emotions. Perhaps the judges were looking for this??

I am not surprised. I go the MDL page of that drama, the rating is very low, and there are lots of negative comments. We do not have view count for that drama, but I would presume it is not very high. While the view count for TLB is very high. Right now, I think at least 3.3B views.

I checked. Qiao Shi Yu did not dub Reba's voice in Hot Girl. That is a modern drama?? Reba likely used her own voice.

If you look at 2017, Pretty Li Huizhen and TMOPB, she only dubbed for Reba (as Baifengjiu) in TMOPB, but not Pretty Li Huizhen (I think Reba used her own voice). There seems to be a pattern. Reba will use her own voice in all her modern dramas, but Qiao Shi Yu will dub her voice in her historical dramas. Hence, it is likely Qiao's voice we hear in TBW and also in Legend of Anle.

It is real. But, I am surprised it is not on YouTube. It would mean they give out multiple of such Outstanding Young Actress awards. Do you know if the drama itself, Tale of Weaving of Love, won anything?? Because, it is clear, TLB won for Best TV series. Do they give out multiple awards for this as well?

Anyway, regarding The Tale of Weaving of Love, you were asking, why there is season 2, if season 1 is not popular. One possibility is that they already signed contract for season 2, even before season 1 is shown.

She did? You have YouTube clip of her winning the award?? I heard about that drama, and wanted to watch it. But when I went to the MDL page of that drama, it was heavily crticised. And the rating is really low, so I decided to skip it.

Not sure. But the Golden Angel Awards is quite prestigious. It is the only Chinese American cultural event in the United States that is officially recognized by both the U.S. and Chinese governments (Source: https://cafilmfestival.org/en/history-of-chinese-american-film-festival/). It has two broad categories, one for Film (movies) and another for TV.

It is very gratifying to note that despite filming in Hengdian at the moment, Reba took time off to film a short video, thanking everyone in association with TLB, while receiving the award as the Outstanding Young Actress in a TV series. If there are no other awards for an actress in a TV series, it means that this award is equivalent to Best Actress in a TV series. I tried to check their official website, but there is no information there.

The voice actress who dubbed Reba's voice is Qiao Shi Yu. She is totally professional and has done voice acting for hundreds of dramas/movies. In TMOPB and ELOD, her voice was cutesy, to match the character that Reba was playing (Baifengjiu). But, in TLB, she changed her pitch/tone (as all good professional voice actor an actresses are able to) to match the character Li Changge.

Most actors/actresses use their own voices in modern dramas, but prefer dubbing by professionals in historicals. It seems that there is big difference between the two, as historical dramas need voices with certain features. Some actresses do use their own voices even in historical (e.g., Bailu in many of her historical dramas; Qin Lan in Yanxi Palace), but not Reba. I have little doubt she can do it, but maybe the quality of her voice does not naturally match historical and she needs much longer time and post production will be delayed; or, her fees will be much higher if they want her to dub her own voice, and using a professional VA will be cheaper and faster. In the trailer for TLB, it was clearly her own voice, but in the drama itself, it was Qiao Shi Yu who dubbed her voice.

Is this something we should be concerned about? I doubt so. Millions have gotten used to this voice. Qiao Shi Yu will deliver.

Read an article which says that the trailer was watched by millions in China. By now, the post production team would have read all the comments. There were positives. Little to no comment at all, on the CGI related to Reba's character, but some negatives on Allen's character. Personally, I like the stances that Ji Yun He adopted. Her dropping from above, and with those red eyes, she looked menacing. Those furry tails looked cute at the moment, but in the drama, I think they will be able to do some damage, and we will stop worrying about the colour of those tails.

The post production team have months to rectify whatever they need to. No reason why they cannot do it. We should see vast improvements, when they release the next trailer.

There are so many actors and actresses in China, if one wants to be successful, there must be a breakout drama. I think Pretty Li Hui Zhen was her breakout role, in that she first caught viewers' attention in China after that drama. Just like Gong Jun caught viewers' attention, after Word of Honour.

Yes, if you watch Reba's dramas over the years, you will see the progression of her acting skills. Female actresses seem to go through a rite of passage, usually playing rom-com or cutesy roles, before moving on to more serious roles. So, she has moved past the phase of doing rom-com stuff (like Pretty Li Huizhen), and will now focus on serious roles. I think cuteness is in her, so even in serious roles, she would like to add in elements of cuteness here and there (e.g., in You Are in My Glory).

And you are right to note that she would always get shipped with her MLs, after each drama. So, after LOA, I think she will be shipped with Gong Jun, and people will want her to act in another drama with him.

You know what?I think American viewers are more forgiving about those animations and the two parrots. Maybe they love birds more than Chinese viewers? Gosh, I read so many online articles that say Chinese viewers really do not like those two birds at all!

Wow! Congrats to all the winners! Someone should tell Reba they labelled her as a 'young actress'. She was rather concerned that viewers in China termed as 'old'. Remember one interview where she reminded everyone she is not even 30.

And they won two of the big prices (Best Drama series, best actress). Alen is a surprise winner indeed!! I thought Lusi or Liu Yu Ning might win something. They played their roles well.

Anyway, winning the award as a TV series indicates that all the cast members did well. So, congrats to the entire team!
