But here is the thing. Let me be very honest. I seldom ever start a drama by looking at the source material, whether it is manhua or a novel. I am now over the page at the page of "You are My Glory" and do not come here very often now, as it has been months since I watched LTB.

And I see the same reaction. People who read the novel YAMG, also wish the screenwriter of the drama with the same name would follow the novel very closely, because they loved the novel so much. And there, the screenwriter did, because she was also the author and the novel was already completed. She did try her best to follow her own novel, as one would expect.

But, you know what? She also changed some of the things!! Because a novel is a novel, and a drama a drama. The two medium are totally different. In a novel, the characters are totally 'nameless' with no real persons attached to them. When made into a drama, they are played by actors and actresses with names. They have reputations to maintain.

If the novel portrays an actor as smoking all the time, and the screenwriter insists on having the actor do that in the drama, even if they use a body double to fake some of the scenes, it may totally destroy his image. No actor will want to portray a role like that. No matter how much he is paid. So, the screenwriter had no choice but to change that.

Hence, all novel and manhua lovers need to be very mindful. No matter how much they loved the source material, when those are made into dramas or movies, things will need to be changed. Or else those movies or dramas may never ever be made.

Manhua artists and novel writers themselves understand that. They know that a drama or movie will bring even more popularity to their beloved work. If 10M people love a manhua, a successful adaptation can change that number to 100M.

Her cousin, Leyan, was added to add more viewers to the drama. The mother's hairpin was removed from the story to make the story simpler. As it is, lots of drama viewers already find that there were way too many characters. If the FL's grandmother and uncle into the story will make it far too complicated. So, they changed it.

While the screenwriters did make the FL make a lot of stupid decisions early on, but later in the drama, she will make all kind of good decisions. Decisions that will ultimately bring about the downflall of the main villain. In the end, she will end up being the biggest hero of this drama, even wiser than the ML.

This, many of us have found, is more realistic. It makes her character more realistic, by making her fallible early on, and then made her change and become smarter and smarter as the series progresses.

Making her way too smart, like the way in the manhua, will make her almost like a wonder woman, far too early. Drama viewers will it very unbelieveable.

The biggest mistake she made thus far, was to fall into the trap of the bad people at the grasslands and caused the death of the ML's adoptive mother. But that pain was relatively shortlived. Within one episode, the ML already got over his grief and left the grasslands to search for her.

Once the FL left the grasslands, her wisdom will continue to grow and she will no longer fall into traps so easily.

I have stayed in this forum for more than 3 months now. Most people come here wanting to know about the ending, and whether there will be romance. Those were some of the things most people were concerned about. The drama did give them that. Without romance, this drama will die.

Manhua lovers were split into two. Some manhua lovers do not like the drama adaptation, but a great majority do not mind. But, the most important viewers are not us, the international viewers. The most important viewers are people in China. And they liked this drama well enough for it to garner 3.3B views. If manhua lovers in China hated this adaptation, I do not think there will be this many views in China.

This drama is now one of the top ten dramas for 2021 in Tencent's list and can be considered a commercial sucess.

It is quite alright if you feel this way. They cannot do things to please every manhua reader, or else this drama will never ever be made. The producer and director had to face reality, and facing reality meant certain things from the manhua will have to be changed. The number of manhua lovers they lost is far outnumbered by fans of the drama or even by manhua lovers. I assure you, lots of manhua lover do not mind the adaptations.

I must say this is totally a matter of preference. Eternal Love of Dream was a big commercial success, showing that most viewers do not find her voice irritating. Here in TLB, I find her voice totally appropriate. She was able to bring out all the emotions in Li Changge, be it sadness, joy, anger, etc.

Yes, some manhua readers could not get away from their own biases, so they enjoyed this drama less. I did the reverse. I watched the drama first, and then read the manhua. And after analysing the differences between the two, I totally understand why the screenwriters had to do all those adaptations, to face the reality of drama making.

They did not make this drama entirely to please all the manhua readers. If they did, this drama would have been a commercial flop and all the investors would have lost big money.

Without the added romance elements, and the Leyan character to bring in more viewers, this drama would not have garnered 3.29B views in China. That, unfortunately, is the reality.

And I was especially touched, when the producer of this drama mentioned that they made this drama after consulting with Xia Da, the original artist of Changge Xing, and got her blessings for the script.

Anyway, comparing TLB and YAMG does not make too much sense. TLB is a historical drama, filmed during the height of the pandemic in China. It faced lots of filming challenges, and a last minute change of the ML. Here is YAMG, everything went very smoothly. And Yang Yang does have a bigger fan base than Wu Lei. Viewership in China is heavily influenced by the size of fan bases.

Of course it will. And I doubt any TLB lover will be sad. They will be very happy for Dilraba. And next year, if The Blue Whisper and Legend of Anle have more views than YAMG, they will again be happy.

Reba should improve with each drama she acts in, and that is what every good actor or actress should do. Just keep improving.

In real life, people can walk away from a marriage days before the actual event, even years after being in a relationship. So, Yu Tu paying for his own mortgage before marriage isn't surprising or inappropriate at all.

But after marriage, all of that should change, if they have a relationship that is based on mutual trust. If they feel that their marriage will not last, given QJJ's vast wealth, they should get lawyers to write a prenup agreement. In the drama, they do have mutual trust and strong love, so that kind of agreement was never necessary. As they will be staying together permanantly after marriage, he should never be ashamed if QJJ should use her vast wealth to pay for a bigger house or apartment near to his workplace, just as rich guys in real life pay for houses they live with their less well-off wives. It is not just about luxury, but about size of the place, once they start having children. And his present apartment is just way too small for that. And likely too small for her wardrobe, once QJJ starts living there permanently. Having a bigger place is hardly a luxury, but a necessity.

Personally, when I watch a drama, I seldom worry about the source material. I really do want the drama to tell me the story. I don't really watch a drama to see how closely it follows the novel.

So, if a screenwrite or scriptwriter is good, the drama will flow smoothly and make sense to the average viewer. Gu Man should not 'force' all viewers to read her novel; she should be writing a romance drama that has the widest reach, well beyond those who read her YAMG novel. This drama should never be written as a tribute to all her novel lovers.

Nor should novel readers expect the drama to follow the novel ever so tightly. A novel is a book, with no real person attached to it. A drama on the other hand is acted out by real actors and actresses. Moving from novel to drama, a scriptwriter needs to face the reality of drama verus novel. And in Reba and Yang Yang, we have two very experienced actors with years of acting under their belt. They would know if tweaking certain things would increase viewing pleasure or make more sense, and if they should have suggestions during the filming process, Gu Man and the director should be humble enough to be open to their suggestions

You have mentioned previously, in the novel, YT smoked, to relieve pressure. That would never pass the censors. So, Gu Man adapted. If Gu Man needs to adapt other stuff, so be it, as long as the main storyline remains largely intact. We should not worry about minor deviations between the novel and the drama. It happens to all drama adaptations.

The Blue Whisper and Legend of Anle will be out only next year. And we can rewatch YAMG only that many times. I have gone on to watch some other dramas, while waiting for TOOL. When I watch TOOL, I will rewatch YAMG again, just to compare.

Ah, I know exactly what you mean. But they needed to tone down the character in the drama. For example, they needed to tone down how ruthless Li Changge was. For instance, in the manhua, it was shown that she would literally poison some people. They cannot do that in the drama. Because, some viewers will link it to Dilraba and her image might be tainted forever.

Both the producer and director have worked with Dilraba before. The producer worked with her in Love Designer and the director worked with her in Eternal love of dream. In several interviews, they both mentioned, she was the right actress to portray Li Changge. I don't think there are no other actress who can do it, but both these very important people in the production team felt she was ideal (based on their prior experience of working with her). They had confidence she can portray ideally. And many us here, who have spent months in this forum, re-watching this drama time after time, we too felt that the choice was correct. We ponder to ourselves, if not Dilraba, who??

You joined this forum rather late. If you had joined us a few months ago, you will hear from hundreds of people here who will tell you, no one could have played Li Changge better than Dilraba.

Bear in mind, she is the main protaganist in the drama. This was a big budget production. The producer and director were not going to risk the entire drama by casting some unknown actress whom they have no confidence in.

I see! It all depends on which part you skipped. I too skipped some of the moments they were together. But, those were mainly at the parts where they were just playing the game, without too much interaction. Those part add nothing much to the story.

The thing is, we only know for sure, in the Tencent video app above, only views in China are counted. No one has seen any official documents how rewatch are counted in China. Just hope a viewer from China can show us some official statements or documents, so all us can know for sure how views and rewatch are counted.

There are just so many scenes which show the great acting abilities of Reba and Yang Yang. The scene you have described is just one, but a good one. They can act so well with their eyes, their facial expressions, and body language. They do not have to tell each other so many times, "I love you", but from their actions, we know how much they really loved each other.

I will agree with you, because I think the plot for TLB is more complex. Rewatching can help us understand things better. YAMG is a simpler drama in terms of plot. Very little twists and turns. Like you said, a drama without drama. No big villains. Nobody died. Here in TLB, one big villain, and some small ones here and there. And, lots of drama, because so many people died. So much more pain.
