You sound really 'deep' my friend. Maybe because you are indeed deep? Thinking all the time? Analysing all the…
You know, I did not read the novel. May or may not read, after watching the entire series. May not even need to. I have read so many comments now, from people who did read the novel and have watched this drama, like you and so many others. So many that I felt I have read it. Your collective descriptions are so so informative.
I feel that different people are interpreting the novel differently, and that is to be expected. It is just words, so different people will attribute different meanings to those words. And novel readers are now watching this drama with different lenses, each interpreting the drama with his/her interpretation of the original novel, each comparing the Yunhe in the drama with their unique way of looking at Yunhe in the novel.
So, I just simply enjoy reading all these comparisons. No one is right all the time, and no one is wrong all the time. Just different angles.
And then, there is me, a representative of those who watched this drama without first reading the novel. We have our own takes as well, of looking at her and Changyi.
We are now only at E8, E9 by tonight. I wonder, when this series is done, how will we feel? Will all our views converge, or will our differences be amplified? Whatever the final outcome, the journey itself is so enlightening, so enriching, and mind-stretching.
Hao Qing pressuring Chang Yi to get his tail cut off by saying that it would help Yun He (when we know that she…
Yes, starting from TLB, her acting has improved with every drama. Here in TBW, she is doing something that she has not done before, a character being tortured by poison, torn between many conflicting but equally important goals. It is slightly more complex than her character in TLB, and is certainly different.
Allen too. Previously, in historical dramas, he will just show the stern cold face. He has clearly mastered that. Here, he shows many different facial expressions.
So, yes, both of them are worthy leads in this great drama.
Really? You generally liked her dramas? I remember you went to the page of The Long Ballad and said you dropped…
I think it was Sakie who first said it, on the page of TLB. Sakie is here on this page. I merely amplify it, whether on the page of TLB or YAMG or here on this page.
I roam around on other MDL pages, and it seems that there many such people around, going on to MDL pages of dramas that they do not like, and then try to stir up some kind of chaos. It seems that they have lots of time on their hand, and just love to get some attention from others.
If their comments make sense, is well justified, that is not so bad. Shows that they have independents thoughts. But some comments are simply ridiculous. Completely without any kind of rational basis, simply out to degrade a drama, or a particular actor or actress.
Really? You generally liked her dramas? I remember you went to the page of The Long Ballad and said you dropped…
Exactly! Most of them are quite smart. If they tell us they are not a fan, we will leave them alone. It is when they tell us they are fan, we start to want to exchange views with them, find why dislike this drama or that drama.
But, when you keep probing, you realise they are fake. They never liked Reba or Allen. Just pretend they do.
I will not be surprised if this person dropped YAMG as well.
We do not need to insult them too much; calling them fakes is not an insult, but just revealing their true nature, just stating the fact.
This is free space. They can say whatever they like. But, we leave them alone.
There are anti fans or people who do like either Dilraba or Allen or even both. So, they have rated it really…
No, not at this moment. All of us are still waiting for the official subs. These 77 people who rated this drama, not all rated it low. Some do, some don't. And, they need not be Chinese speaking people. Some may have rated it low without even watching any episode of this drama. Lots of people like that roaming around, looking to downgrade any drama those poses a threat to their favourite dramas, or their favourite actors/actresses.
We should not do what they do, or we end up like them. But, we can help to defend TBW, by rating it 10, as long as it is our sincere rating.
As a matter of fact, to counter all the haters, I sometimes wish that those who love this drama might deliberately over-rate this, just to get an overal fair mean score.
I just realized this would actually be my full Dilraba drama to watch. I didn't finish The King's Woman and I…
Ah, so you have yet to watch The Long Ballad? That is a good one! For modern romance drama, You are my glory is a charm. The best modern romance drama last year. Any of these will help you pass time, while you wait for the subs.
Agree! Hate to see these type of competition internationally.
Indeed. Some of us, even if we do not like a particular drama, we will not go there just to make some insincere remarks. But others have no problem doing this, as long downgrading other dramas or actors/actresses will make their favourite dramas or actors/actress look good. It is really really sad.
I generally like most of Dilraba shows, but seeing the trailer a few months back had me skeptical, so I kept this…
Really? You generally liked her dramas? I remember you went to the page of The Long Ballad and said you dropped it. So, which of her dramas do you like?
I definitely am one of those who believe that the drama is still very true to what the novel wants to portray…
It is lovely to read your comment. You used very poetic language. Very nice way of describing what you feel concerning the relationship between Yunhe and Changyi.
Coming from a person who did not read the novel, it is very reassuring to read what you have written. It assured me that the drama is moving in the right direction, that whatever changes that the screenwriter and director have made, these changes helped to make Yunhe and Changyi better, better in all the many ways that you have described.
Indeed, when I watched the drama, it was great that Yunhe had Lou Lou around. It reminds me very much of Dilraba last historical drama before TBW. There, in The Long Ballad, her character Li Changge, also had a constant companion, Mimi. Li Changge was always surrounded by men, in particular men of war. And Mimi was a female, someone of the same gender, someone she can relate to, one girl to another, and this really relieved her loneliness. And indeed, this change was also identical, in the sense that in the source material for The Long Ballad, the Mimi character was killed off very early. But, in the drama adaptation, the writer and director changed it, and made Mimi accompany Li Changge all the way. Right till the very end. Unfortunately, Mimi was killed by an arrow, which made Li Changge so so sad, as she was her constant companion for a long time in the drama.
So, the relationship between Ji Yunhe and Lou Lou reminds me very much of the relationship between Li Changge and Mimi. The director for The Long Ballad is also the director for TBW. Maybe that is why he made the same change. He knew that Dilraba would like that, to have another female actress with her very often. It is not just companionship in the drama, but companionship even while they were filming this drama.

We have seen some of those previously. More will be coming. Especially if TBW starts to do really well.
Best to just leave them alone, after one or exchanges. No point wasting our time with them.
