Thanks! I saw this when you posted about the TBW issue yesterday. She looks the part and so gorgeous. They have…
I see! No wonder you got 4! I count them as one. It is perfectly alright to believe that they can make it for the Oct deadline. When they are done filming, we have a clearer picture.
Yes, just as they had lots of help from aerospace people in the making of YAMG, Reba would have lots of help from real Chinese lawyers who had worked on cases similar to those they will address in the drama. The show must come across as realistic, or else it will receive lots of criticism from viewers, especially those who are familiar with legal procedures and issues and the use of legal terms. None of these was necessary when she filmed YAMG, so we can see how challenging this must be for Reba. Yet, this is the only way she can grow, as an actress. Keep trying our new roles, keep learning, keep growing.
If this drama can hit 5b views, it will be a roaring success and take her career to new heights. Many of the leads in CC were males. She being a female, if she succeeds, it will show that having a FL to carry a drama of this genre can still work magic, and break some kind of gender barrier in Chinese dramas.
This will encourage novel writers to write more female-centric materials for modern drama, giving her and other actresses more acting opportunities.
Yes, this will indeed be another year when she will have her birthday on set. Must be 3 in a row (from 2020?). Will be nice she can celebrate her sweet 30 on set. She is so much younger than many of her co-stars. Just hope they will not bully or belittle her in anyway. At the booting ceremony, when they lined up to take one of the videos, the poor girl was literally squeezed between two older and bigger individuals. We can clearly see that she was uncomfortable, yet the other two persons did nothing but kept squeezing her out of her position. Totally insensitive.
Yes, if she just have one drama next year, we will just have to watch some other stuff. At this point, it is difficult to see how she can have two dramas next year. Unless, she takes on two short modern dramas in quick succession. Taking on new modern roles may be more challenging mentally, but it is less tiresome physically compared to filming historical dramas, where she has to wear all those wires and fight.
Yup. I know about her role in TLB. I think the musical director for TLB is a guy. I saw a YouTube video of him talking about the music in TLB. They really paid a lot of attention to music in that drama. I think Sa Ding Ding is a great music director too! So TBW will have great OSTs, and BGM.
The trailer is amazing and I'm loving the CGI. This one explores the magic and side characters a lot more than…
Thanks for the BTS. They seemed to be discussing something rather serious. When this aired, and this scene makes the cut, we will know what this is all about. I sincerely hope they give sufficient screen time to HYX. Just saw that she gets to be the FL in a new drama. Really happy for her!
That too? Wow! I did not know that! So they must really know each other quite well. I think wherever Director Chu goes, he just pulls her along, for the music aspects of a drama.
Thanks! I saw this when you posted about the TBW issue yesterday. She looks the part and so gorgeous. They have…
4? We might get 3 (TBW; PE and LOA). Did I miss out one? If TBW finishes in May, we might get LOA in July; and if they do finish everything on time, we might even get this one in Oct. For her, to get 3 dramas out in a year is quite something. It will also put pressure on her to choose the next project quickly, so that she will have a drama airing next year. If PE does air this year, it will be really difficult to watch 2 of her dramas next year.
Honestly? It is going to be a big challenge to get this out by Oct. They will have to reduce the number of episodes, so that less time will be needed for filming as well as post production.
Crimecrackdown only had 28 episodes. Yet, it had more than 5B views last year. We know that the script is good, or Reba will not pick this up. The cast is good. Scriptwriter is good, so is the director. The only big obstacle is time. I do not see anything official about the number of episodes. Maybe that is something they can decide as they get along in the filming process.
The question on everyone's mind: Does this channel provide English sub. I guess we will know on the 17 March?
True! Usually buying the subscription should be fairly easy, whether for Youku or croton megahit. I am hoping that at my location, the the tv channel that we already subscribed to will pay for the viewing rights to TBW, so we get to watch this without extra costs.
I think so. But, the advice of most people seems to be, we should wait till 17 March. See which platforms will…
Most welcomed. I am in the same shoes as you. Waiting for March 17 and then decide. When you come here on March 17, after the screening of the first episode, lots of people will let us know which platform is best for which country.
As Youku is the producer of this drama, I suspect Youku would provide the best English sub for this drama. But, there is also croton Megahit YouTube channel mentioned in the post below. There could be others. So, worth our wait.
She needs to pick up the next project quickly, and avoid doing Xianxia. We can see what happened to TBW. Got stuck…
I have seen lots of low budget Xianxia dramas, acted out by very young actors/actresses. So, this genre is also often used as a training ground for those young ones. My dear brother (2021) is one such example. So, you do not really need all that high a budget, if you do not need 1st class CGI.
CGI is not the most important element; but it is certainly a very important. Particularly right now, when we already have so many good Xianxia dramas with great CGI. Yes, when TMOBP was first shown, the CGI was not great. But, it was the first of the big budget Xianxia dramas with big stars. The story was sufficiently gripping enough, so viewers do not really mind. But, we are many years down the road from that drama. So, if you want a big Xianxia hit, all the important elements must still be there: Great story, great acting, and great CGI.
Yes, TBW did not take excessively long time to do the CGI. Especially if we factor in the Chinese New Year period. If not for the two week break, we likely would viewed that drama at least 2 weeks earlier than 17 March.
But, post production work for Xianxias is still longer than pure historical Wuxia type of dramas. A drama like TLB does not have lots of special effects to work on, like those flying arrows that we saw, whilst a drama like TBW has to work on Allen's tail. Wuxia type dramas have been around much longer, so it will be much easier to find people with the right skills to do post production, compared to CGI.
And some Xianxia novels can be quite complicated. The Mirror Twin City, for example. I read that it was poorly directed and also poorly edited and also poor CGI. This despite it being a big budget drama. Maybe the director is fairly new to Xianxia and does not how to interpret the novel. And post production work further messed it up.
So, you see, just so many factors need to be around, for a Xianxia drama to be successful, to be a blockbuster, compared to a wuxia drama. We just need a good source material (like the case of the TLB).
But, we are all amatuers here, discussing the drama industry in China. Reba and her team will know best. We can just watch her future drama selection. If she continues to do Xianxia, it will prove that this genre still has room to grow. If she gravitates toward Wuxia type (like LOA), she likely feel that it is too difficult to get another Xianxia big hit. Also, like I mentioned previously, it could be well that in future, she decides to do more 'serious' type of modern dramas.
In a recent interview, Reba mentioned that she wants to try different things, take up different challenges. Which is why she took up the role of An Ni in Prosecutor Elite. Whether her next project is a Xianxia, Wuxia or another modern drama with a serious theme, it will be one that is different from all that she has done before. She is done making dramas for the sake of making money, as she likely has lots of it by now. She will pick something that stretches her acting skills, that will win her new admirers, beyond her current Alices in China and elsewhere, that will gain her even more respect by her fellow actors/actresses in the entertainment industry.
In Hollywood, great actress like Meryl Streep do not pick a script based on the possibilities of commercial success, but more on the probabilities that playing those roles will help her win academy awards. Reba could well on the same path.
We can see that Reba is brave enough to do something different. And now, we see a producer who is willing to take…
I just saw a photo of the two of them (Reba and Da Wei) having noodles in a noodle shop in Chengdu. Looks like they are starting to build good off-screen chemistry, so that they can have great on-screen chemistry.
I think so. But, the advice of most people seems to be, we should wait till 17 March. See which platforms will air this. There could be several. And then we can see which one works best. No need to rush to subscribe now.
New regulation for no more than 50 eps for mainland china drama. For TBW, Its originally more than 50 eps then…
Yes, my Heroic Husband is not bad. But, it is not at the same level as Joy of Life. So the big gap between seasons 1 and 2 of Joy of Life is quite a torture for many people.
TOOL will probably beat all records cause they have Xiao zhan and he is a God in views but the drama will probably…
Don't know how it is going to work for viewers in China. I think Reba and Allen fans will still give priority to TBW
They will watch this first, and then likely watch TOOL, if they are keen on that genre
XZ and Yang Zi fans will doubt watch the other one first. If they are keen on Xianxia dramas, they will still watch TBW after that. There is no other Xianxia dramas around at the moment. Certainly not one as good as TBW.
