This movie might not be scary to someone who's used to slashers and horror but it was entertaining for sure. I really enjoyed it although there was more focus on friendship than supernatural, since at least they did try with the horror part. There's a ghost, motives, mysteries and all that, so it still falls under the horror genre even if it's not a serious and sombre horror movie to the core. I also liked how they did body-horror/gore, the first few deaths were interesting and they didn't overdo the slashing (which is something many j-horror movies are guilty of). I hope they do make a sequel, the ending got me looking forward to it.
I've been obsessed with that urban legend for decades so I had high hopes for this movie, but it didn't really live up to my expectations. I didn't exactly hate how they approached the legend and altered it because, at first, I thought they'll follow the most common theories regarding the Kisaragi Station (one of them being that the girl who was trapped in this station had died because the train got into an accident, and the station was a place between life and death where ghosts who couldn't find their way to afterlife or escaped from purgatory just wander around). And well, I admire their courage to write an original plot. The ending was also nice imo, and I loved the first person pov when Hasumi was recalling that incident, the pov made it a bit easier to immerse yourself into the story. Sometimes it felt like you're playing a game, other times it felt like a fever dream.
But what I didn't like was: 1) The comically bad CGI/graphics (? idk what else to call them) — maybe it was done on purpose to add to that 'fever dream' effect or it's due to the limited-budget. Someone out there would probably appreciate it, but I wasn't fond of it at all. It took me out of the movie so many times because rather than being scary, it was funny. It deadass reminded me of ps2 game graphics. I wish they had left it to the viewers imagination to guess what was happening to them. Sometimes what you can't see, can be scarier. At least scarier than seeing something goofy.
2) This movie also relied a lot on jumpscares. Not like I have anything against jumpscares in general, but for anyone used to horror movies, they're quite boring if not done well or creatively enough.
3) Some of the actions/decisions by both of the main characters and a few side characters were illogical. I expected Haruna to be smarter than that because she knew exactly what she was getting herself into, but she was almost as clueless as everyone else and slow to act. I liked the actress playing her though, her facial marks look like permanent dimples.
Woa I remember being obsessed with this game (couldn't play it on the full volume and without earphones though because the mc's voice sounded sus whenever she jumped lmao), didn't knew it had a short movie. Anyways, it can be watched here and seems to have eng subs too: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kfujtUIKBTQ&gl=JP
Honestly I'm just interested because of the cover, it's so goddamn beautiful I want to print it out and frame it on my bedroom wall. I hope nobody changes it in the future, it's really eye-catching.
The trailer was so cool, I'm a sucker for these type of dramas with historical settings. If it was set in modern times, I don't think it would've caught my attention that much, but I'd love to see people from the late Ming Dynasty trying to survive and deal with this mysterious epidemic-like thing without any modern technology or resources.
The new cover and pictures are absolutely gorgeous! They remind me of the night sky and the fact that main leads look so happy in them is giving me a lot of hope for a HE.
I'm surprised that he debuted in 2020, he's such a natural actor with a pair of beautifully expressive eyes that I thought he had decades of experience lmao. Wishing the best for him and looking forward to his future works!
This can be watched here (no eng subs yet): https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Y14y1S7gQ?p=2 Honestly, I wish it was a full-length movie. The plot was ambiguous since they obviously didn't plan on going any further than they were required to, vogue films often focus more of the atmosphere and acting to begin with. But I'd be lying if I said this short didn't left me begging for more. Chen Feiyu really needs to act in a slow, suspense movie like this one.
I've been in love with her since Bloody Romance. I'm a bit sad that she tend to get supporting roles in dramas most of the time, since I would die to see her as the main character in a historical drama. Her screen presence is amazing.
