Why is it rated so high? Chinese dramas get a lot more than they deserve. Chinese dramas deserve at most 5 points.
It's rated high because many people have been touched by the drama and find it good. Even though the drama and other cdramas may not be your cup of tea, doesn't mean that they don't deserve the ratings millions of others give them. I'm not offended that you don't like this drama, since you have the right for your opinion. But just know millions of others have their opinion also that cdramas can be good and can deserve a higher rating.

I actually fast-forwarded many scenes with just gaming and engineering in my 1st watch of YAMG, because I really wanted to see the interactions between the main leads - and YES, they had electrifying chemistry!! In my 2nd watch, I'm actually paying more attention to some scenes that I fast-forwarded and I'm catching things I didn't catch before! I also had the desire to see more of their family life with kids in the last episode! But I also really liked to see how they showcased how the family came so far and grew up together, achieving their dreams. But it would have made this show an 11/10 if they had added those extra tidbits!

Oh yea, I read the novel before watching this drama, so I imagined the main leads to look quite differently than the current actors/actresses. I imagined a different type of beauty in the FL, and I imagined the ML to be less puppy sweet looking, but more cold handsome type. The current ML has this sweet puppy eye look, which grows on me, but it's different from what I imagined! The actress who plays the FL now is beautiful but not the type that turns heads in my opinion. The novel made the FL look so amazing turning heads everyone she went, ahahaha. Anyways, I am enjoying the drama so far. The novel got pretty passionate in the later episodes, the turns into a man who has been awakened with desire suddenly. haha
