Actually, I don't think this drama has a female lead per se. If we talk love interest, out of all three main female…
Before we get to a potential romance between Master Puzhu and Xifang Tao, what I find interesting (as was discussed with another viewer) was the special bond they have developed. Xifang Tao (who is totally different from novel-Xifang Tao) has trust issues and men issues, and to finally encounter someone who is willing to trust her and believe in her, someone she can rely upon as a friend, who isn't trying to take advantage of her or want anything from her... Master Puzhu is definitely breaching her emotional and psychological defenses, because he is coming across as someone who could be an actual true reliable male friend and equal. When playing Go, players get to understand how each other will think (if both sides are honest). Xifang Tao would grasp his character.
I just posted a comment up-top asking where are the fans of Alen Fang, Xiao Shunyao and Ao Ziyi. It would be great to hear from and share perspectives. That's why this is a drama page, for discussion. The drama pages for Fated Hearts and Mobius continue to flourish until today, because people discuss or reveal what they think about many different things for the respective dramas beyond romance. They are very enjoyable pages of maturity and fun.
Novel readers could ship Tang Lici with Fang Zhou or with Liu Yan, because that makes the most sense given what was in the novel (at one point to protect Liu Yan, Tang Lici hurls A-Shui to take the full impact of something very unpleasant. This will never make it into the drama, including other instances where I don't approve of how Tang Lici treated A-Shui. To say Tang Lici was in love with A-Shui in the novel is quite a stretch).
In episode 27 when the dragons of Liu Yan and Tang Lici were intertwining, I was going "HOKAY" *coughs dualcultivationcoughs*, but it can still be viewed platonically.
I'm alright for everyone to ship whoever they want, but I'm not cool when someone takes my opinion to twist it into something else for their own intentions or badgers/snipes at me because I refuse to accept the opinion they are rudely shoving at me. Thank you for not doing that.
I've watched 31 episodes, and I'm well aware of my bias as a novel reader and being emotionally invested in this drama before it aired. The first ten episodes suffer from one thing: Purple prose. It can be a turn-off to some viewers. I had to persuade a non-novel reader elsewhere offline to give it 6 episodes before deciding, and that's a Luo Yunxi fan who doesn't need subtitles. Their view is valid too, when they told me their issues with the first two episodes.
If you read the reviews I write, you can see for yourself how I view structure and other technicalities in balance with emotional plot points. For viewers who prioritise structure and technicalities with no prior interests ie why should I be invested in this story and care about the ML plus supporting characters, the first ten episodes definitely have some issues with storytelling.
If you want trivia and/or cultural references, users such as kwanto and Azure are fantastically helpful to ask.
He was in this drama with Hankiz Omar whereby I thought the script and ML characterisation was too bland for his acting skills and he had no chemistry with the FL (and yes, I dropped the drama). From his comic timing in AJTL, I figured he might be able to pull off a villain role with relish instead of typical ML roles. He's definitely doing well here.
I am wondering where all the fans of Alen Fang, Xiao Shunyao and Ao Ziyi are on this page, so I finally made a new comment up-top about it.
Alen Fang is doing very well. He's proving why he deserves complex interesting roles in future dramas, by turns…
How far along are you? Sorry I missed this comment. Sometimes notifications get a bit screwy when the website becomes disruptive for me.
Ps. I just posted a new comment up-top wondering where all the fans of Alen Fang, Ao Ziyi and Xiao Shunyao are. It would be great to hear more from you!
Actually, I don't think this drama has a female lead per se. If we talk love interest, out of all three main female…
Frankly, I think if Liu Yan falls in love with you, he could be a totally healed person. You could overwhelm him with sparkles and sensible calm tenacity to wake him up. Alas, that will only remain fantasy. Liu Yan is doomed in WoF because transmigration is impossible (plus I'm not sure you want to be subjected to multiple projectile attacks while he's trying to regain his sanity).
Gui Mudan is a puppet and only that cat will do for him.
I won't be using a towel for Liu Yan. But it will still be sad nevertheless.
At this point of the drama, here's my most pressing question: Where are the fans of Alen Fang, Ao Ziyi and Xiao Shunyao on this page? Episode 31 sees another gamut of performances from these actors that is emotionally riveting.
The beginning of the episode was so powerful. And then later, when a certain present is offered... It would be great to hear and share more discussions pertaining to these characters too! (Anything else has to be under spoiler tags)
I posted my perfect ending idea just below this reply, in a reply to Megumi-H~
That white cat is possibly reining in GMD's worst whims. GMD doesn't have urges. He has whims when not powered by cold unflappable logic. At this point, the cat has the best chances of outliving GMD. Who else can wound GMD and live?
I reckon it is very brave of Bao Shang'en to do this role, even if she is struggling in the micro-emoting department. When she was being tortured by Liu Yan, she could get that through well enough. But after that is even more challenging. This is actually a difficult role for any actress. I commend her for daring to take this role, and doing her best. She is making Zhong Chunji unlikeable for these episodes, as expected. There are very few actresses under the age of 30 I can think of who would easily nail this.
Zhang Zi Feng would nail it and ace it, but she has the clout not to do such dramas and she prefers modern non-romance movies or difficult compelling dramas, like the unaired C-Drama remake of the K-Drama hit "My Mister" with Mark Chao.
It seems being desperate for his love and not getting it, her selfishness leads her astray.
When one considers what she said ie "我废了你-" , on hindsight it sounds like she is trying to talk herself into believing what she is doing to him, instead of facing up to the real reason of why she is doing so to him. I don't know if there is a road to survival for her, because if she wakes up entirely to what she has done, she may decide to off herself in a noble manner or die fighting others.
Luo Yunxi has been doing quite a few interviews, and he's been gushing about Whispers of Fate in every one of…
Thank you for the links! It's lovely to see Luo Yunxi expound on his thought process of how he immerses himself in a character and forgets to be Luo Yunxi, and the mountains he has to overcome to become a character. And as always, he is mature and gentle to the point that his humble authenticity is so heart-warming.
Aha, the cat outlives Gui Mudan who forgets to give it a name, so Tang Lici adopts our feisty feline and appreciates the Jianghu and life and friends after surviving the final battle! Here's to second chances! I would like this ending.
Ahaha. I can feel all the frustrations coming from you~ These kinds of dramas are trying to make us stronger in…
No wonder I was sneezing so much this late afternoon!
At this point, I believe you are reincarnated Xue Xianzi and Mizuhira-san is Shui Duopo XD And I'm not Tang Lici, thankfully XD Probably reincarnated Xiao Xuefu
Actually, I don't think this drama has a female lead per se. If we talk love interest, out of all three main female…
I believe the characters have to do one-on-one evaluations, otherwise the psychiatrist won't survive a session with Gui Mudan and Liu Yan together when the two characters disagree. That cat and you have to be present.
Actually, I don't think this drama has a female lead per se. If we talk love interest, out of all three main female…
The production team has a hard time trying to balance everything while incorporating fan service, and I think they have mostly done a good job! That's why there are shipping wars over Tang Lici, which adds to the visibility of the drama. The MDL cast was originally listed correctly as Tang Lici being the only lead, but I think there's been some back-and-forth editing by different people which is why it can be confusing to new viewers who come to WoF through MDL. That is what has me puzzled.
Fang Zhou is number 1, Liu Yan is number 2 (this matches the novel and I'm viewing from a platonic perspective of who Tang Lici prioritises), and as to Chi Yun- Chi Yun's attitude for the drama is more cheeky and charming than novel-Chi Yun, which I enjoy. His entrance and presence in the first six episodes happily made me feel like a kid enjoying his antics. I wish there was time for a bit of a backstory with Tang Lici, but I don't think that will happen. That said, I believe Tang Lici will show how dear Chi Yun is to him after episode 33. I'm one of those who likes a romance between mature people or a Mysterious- Lotus-Casebook-type of brotherhood, and everyone has different preferences other than those.
The drama cuts out what can be considered as a lot of draggy irrelevant extras from the novel and makes it easier to digest (which is still a lot to digest for viewers in the first two episodes). When I evaluate details, romance is not the first or second context that I use as a filter. That's how my guesses are at least 80% correct about details in crime-thrillers such as Mobius.
I also like how Xifang Tao and Puzhu have a bond, and they are interesting characters. It would be great to get Gui Mudan and Zhong Chunji and Liu Yan on a couch for a psychiatric evaluation and find out what makes them tick. I like to get into mindsets. I am first and foremost, about the individual and how they view emotions or relationships. Xue Xianzi and Shui Duopo are making some of us crack up over their friendship as a non-couple who should be a couple. Not all discussions take place on this page. And of course, the themes! There's so much richness of heritage and beauty and CGI that it's a feast for the senses. I enjoyed the Sichuan opera elements.
Overall, despite what I consider to be pacing issues within the first twenty-one episodes, this is a very enjoyable story of high fantasy where wuxia pushed to its limits melds with xuanhuan elements.
No wonder LY is crazy and lying to himself. He can't admit he caused his Shixiong's death, likely manipulated…
Whoops, only just saw this comment. Will refrain from mentioning novel spoilers to you (although if it helps, this drama is very different from the novel in many aspects, but retains certain similarities)
