Me and my friend literally have the same thoughts on you with this one... I reached episode 4 and then started…
Novel-Ming Yi and Novel-Ji Bozai were a good pair because both of them were intelligent and cunning and witty and verbally-matched. Physical intimacy happened earlier in the novel. The tension between the two leads is well-sustained in the novel, and the novel which LITC is based on is definitely better than the novel for Fated Hearts (I read both novels). Both novels are not suitable for the screen, unless greatly changed. That said, the adaptation for Fated Hearts and its execution turned out way better, thanks to five screenwriters understanding the source material plus the need to make a drama script coherent enough yet still match the original source material in preserving certain traits of the main characters so they are recognisable.
In the novel Ji Bozai cheated on Ming Yi after they got together and on top of that, Ming Yi's way of eventually coming to terms with Ji Bozai's behaviour including concealing something vital from her (marrying another princess simply for political expediency without informing her) was to wholly and consistently reject him after that to show him how unacceptable and heartless his behaviour had been, create her own male harem of more than thirty men being mostly renowned scholars of humble background (including publicly marrying at least one of them in a grand wedding so Ji Bozai can understand the humiliation and disappointment of how she once felt), and concentrate on her duties as City Lord of Chaoyang.
Losing Ming Yi makes the lord of six cities Ji Bozai realise how much he actually loved Ming Yi and she is the only one he loves. He pursues her until he finally succeeds in persuading her to marry him (and she never made it easy, so it took quite some time). His methods of dealing with stress include carving dozens of wooden rabbits, when she married one of the men from her harem. All this cannot make it into the drama. Ming Yi and Ji Bozai in LITC are almost fundamentally different from their novel characters, especially Ming Yi which will be a disappointment for anyone who enjoyed Ming Yi's dominance, ability to adapt, and allure as a woman who was not second to Ji Bozai but demonstrated why she was capable of being Empress and enabling him to be a wise ruler. One example is how she managed to indirectly enable a city to popularise the practise of monogamy by having its newly-married ruling couple set an example, thus improving the lives of females for that city.
Ming Yi is a very powerful warrior in the novel, and she shines multiple times including when she forges weapons. Yes, she lied too, but her lying was justified and never drawn out. Drama-Ming Yi is what the scriptwriters wrote her to be.
I’m on episode 30, does he get his eyesight back??? 😭😭
I wrote a non-spoiler review about certain aspects, which might be of interest to you. A link expounding on the ending is included in that review: https://kisskh.at/profile/Xiang83/review/503570
It's unfortunate how many people are so stuck on Jin Han's costume/visuals in this drama not being this or that,…
Jin Han's acting along with Peng Xiaoran is literally what enabled me to finish this drama with scriptwriting issues and editing issues. His characterisation as a mature male lead being lively with a great sense of humour and isn't afraid to show that, while quick-witted and spot-on-emoting is a unique combination that younger viewers are not used to seeing in a historical costume C-drama. Otherwise he cannot match Peng Xiaoran's witty character, who is calmly projecting an air of capability and mature grace.
The over-acting (or to be exact, wooden acting) of one of the four support male roles was somewhat painful. Over-acting from the actress as Jiu Ling's maidservant was also painful. A stronger ensemble cast of supporting actors was needed for this drama. The leads saved this drama.
Tears of laughter or exasperation? Luo Yunxi has been marvellous to watch. For him to portray a scared weak Tang…
Heh. It depends. At one point IQiyi's english subs for Coroner's Diary was totally off, leading to some hilarity. But yes, Mango wins the Badge of Biggest Befuddlement for subs.
I'd suggest Beneath the Undertow, The Long Night and Beloved if you want to try anything in that. Each drama is 12 to 16 episodes long.
"Those Flowers" is a not-yet-aired female-centric Light On drama which has a strong cast such as Wu Jinyan, Jiang Shuying, Liu Dan, Tu Song Yan and Huang Jue: https://kisskh.at/776041-thos-flowers
I got a lot of spoilers from people who read the screenplay and read the book, but I’m not sure whether those…
I would have preferred the "Star Wars" segment and Luo Yunxi's costume design to be significantly different. Of course it isn't the same and there are differences, but the similarities had me going "We can do better than this". With all that tech, why couldn't they create a desert demon who throws rocks and doesn't look so generic?
Hmm, Starry Love was one I loved (humour, epic romance, wonderful side characters)? If you like less humour and…
Love and Destiny is one of my favourite C-Dramas in the xianxia category. Are you looking solely in the xianxia category, or are other categories possible? If only xianxia, are you interested only in dramas or will movies suggestions also help?
I got a lot of spoilers from people who read the screenplay and read the book, but I’m not sure whether those…
The two assassins who attacked Tang Lici in episode 13 - This incident was pulled forward from the final few chapters of the novel, taking place in a different setting and the original controller of them wasn't Hong Gu.
Gui Mudan will bite the dust as a big villain, but I'm only aware of one key villain bigger than him. That's all from the novel. Since the drama is quite different from the novel, I look forward to whoever the second key villain is, based on what you're saying.
The Insect King was supposed to be absorbed by Puzhu in the novel. In the novel, Chi Yun dies. But not like that. Gui Mudan is supposed to die in the novel. But...
Looks like I better get ready a towel, when it comes to Chi Yun.
Tears of laughter or exasperation? Luo Yunxi has been marvellous to watch. For him to portray a scared weak Tang…
Glad to hear you are enjoying this drama! What do you mean by fundamental confusion? I had trouble getting used to Daniel Craig's accent as Benoit Blanc. And that blue pinstriped-
IQIyi English subs tend to be better than Mango English subs, but IQiyi English subs also tend to leave out certain details or context at times.
What genres do you usually watch? Crime-mystery thrillers such as dramas from IQiyi Light On series, wuxia, some fantastical mishmash?
For this drama, I'm enjoying the balance of skilled wirework and CGI and most importantly, the fights anchored by emotions. Over-simple wirework relying on CGI for camouflage isn't my cup of tea.
Whatever y'all say, but I'm here just for Ah Shui. I like her, her interaction with Tang Lici is so capitative,…
I'm glad you like A-Shui. There are so many likeable characters and aspects of this drama. Villain or not, everyone has to do well in their roles (which means being evil where applicable and being appreciated for executing that well). The production team and post-production team is as important as the cast, in ensuring what we are watching draws as many viewers as possible.
Fated Hearts MDL page is doing well because there are many new participants. Many of us who finished the episodes fastest simply maintained an environment for mature and fun discussions, without making snide potshots or implications about the intelligence of others. With so many details, it can be hard to keep up or notice little details that feed into the bigger plot. Everyone's participation is welcome, even when expressing why someone isn't connecting with a character. it's all about the approach.
Anyone here can and should ship whoever they like, and it's nice to respect the preferences of others. I greatly enjoy how everyone in the cast is delivering so far (except the actor for Yu Furen who needs to learn to emote with more nuancing). Team Tang Lici needs to be totally onboard with each other, when the enemies are very powerful and cunning.
I like how Zhong Chunji and A-Shui interact with each other. I also like how Shen Langhun and Chi Yun protect Tang Lici and each other, and how they deliberately prank or rib each other. I believe patience in seeing how things unfold is the key. Characters are written in a certain manner, and editing shapes what we see of that character in the final product. A-Shui has been calm and strong ever since episode 1, considering she has a right to have an inferiority complex when she can't fight like everybody else (and in the novel, feeling like she was unable to be of use in that way plays a part in her decisions, and not just her feelings for Tang Lici). Without Tang Lici being functional and alive in more than one situation, she wouldn't survive and she knows that.
Whether her final intentions are good or bad for Tang Lici in this drama is the key question.
She looks so much older than every other female in this drama..She even looks older then TLC character..
I didn't notice whether Xifang Tao looks older or not than Tang Lici. Xifang Tao clearly understands herself, and that's very attractive for anyone who likes strong confident intelligent women (although I don't agree with her ethics, such as what she advised Yu Furen). Hong Gu strikes me as someone still finding her identity and self, understandably so. "Never lose yourself for anyone" is something I'd like in men and women.
UPDATED ~ Nov 1st...I'll start a new one because the collection from the 27th grew so big...~ Reuters ~ 28.10.25…
Wow, mega wrap-up! Thank you for your consistently helpful efforts! Much appreciated. It'll take me a quite while to go through them, and then I'll help you as I mentioned.
Between SLY and SaB summaries right now, especially since SLY has many details and layers. I also shared the Fated Hearts OST (complete with theme songs, BGM and instrumentals).
3 episodes for today Oct 31st. Per the calendars here.https://kisskh.at/discussions/755725-shui-long-yin/145974-calendar-official-airing-schedule?pid=3417316&page=1#p3417316
Episode 18 ends on a cliffhanger that makes one groan at having to wait more than 2 days for episode 19.

I hope it's not true for one of them.
