Title The Guardians Spoiler
Ep 9 was already giving me a lot of dust in my eyes, in how Zhang Yishan was reacting over the actress for Hongyu.…
Episode 12 was much-needed relief. Ding Yi as Gu Yangshan's wingman was beyond hilarious. I am not ready to take the tension of episodes 13 and 14 today.

Still wordless at the likes of Li Bo Yao in episode 11 going further than episode 10 (once again, stellar performance from supporting cast member): https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5215828158451799

I needed episode 12, because the previews for episodes 13 and 14 are going to have me on edge.

and what's annoying is that they always think that a drama is boring just because it's not romance.
"The Guardians" is a currently-airing Republican-era spy espionage thriller whereby the 2MLs and FLs are highly commendable. I've watched 12 episodes. 7 episodes are free on Youtube. Maybe give this a shot?

Skill issue.I really enjoyed the adventure AND I'm shipping them. It's possible to do both. <3
I am enjoying this far more than Ultimate Note because the developments of their closeness as friends is seamlessly improving, their development as individuals fascinates me, and the story developments of adventuring here is less messy and disorganised than Ultimate Note. Frankly, I don't actually understand the bromance tag for this drama, because I don't think it applies here yet. That said, I can see how certain scenes are fun for some viewers in being open to interpretation possibly for future bromance.

I like XZX and CX as the dynamic duo of adventurers willing to protect each other. I like SGCY here for being less annoying as Wang Pangzi than the other actor in Ultimate Note. But ultimately, I wish there was more of Francis Ng and Cao Lei.

Wait till you get to Episode 12. You'll want romance and crack up simultaneously, where Han Dongjun is concerned (but as to the exact details and people involved, you'll have to watch it first). Zhang Yishan is tops in it.

If they keep this up beyond episode 12, this drama will edge Mobius to become my C-drama of the year.

Title The Tower of Whispers Spoiler
I wonder if she ever enjoyed her status as his consort at any point, because she did not seem to have any positive…
Exactly. Only years of conditioning (whereby someone is used to a half-naked guy wandering daily around the home most of the time and when one is usually at home) might result in being completely comfortable seeing a half-naked guy under any circumstances.

I have friends of different cultures and stripes from many countries, and all the females have one thing in common, regardless of how liberal they may be (and also above the age of 30, I can't comment for those under that age since I don't have enough interactions with them): If not mentally and emotionally prepared to see any guy regardless of familial blood or marriage ties being topless, the reaction is usually abrupt and embarrassed, followed by a quick admonishment to put some clothes on.

This FL is not used to being treated like a sex object and plaything, feeling vengeful and wanting revenge. She is indulging her emotions on this subject after rebirth, but her better side is also coming through. Makes for a compelling character. I believe she is being kinder and more mature than her age on this subject, because in her place I would want to do something nasty to Jun Che that would most likely result in a visible physical scar of sorts he could never erase.

And if you like strong acting with a stellar cast and well-paced plot, "The Guardians" is a currently-airing Republican-era spy espionage thriller whereby the 2MLs and FLs are highly commendable. I've watched 11 episodes. 7 episodes are free on Youtube:

Episode 11 thoughts:
Tian Hao as Li Bo Yao is borderline manic and appallingly efficient in achieving aims, and what a performance he gave in an action-packed episode. Watching Ding Yi hit Gu Yangshan because Gu Yangshan allowed it for specific reasons, and then Gu Yangshan picking up that gun- Zhang Yishan's acting is already highly-laudable, but Elvis Han is also hitting it out of the ballpark. He goes from appearing defeated and ashamed, to suddenly switching mode and making Ding Yi wary, and then with an unexpected touch of humour- These two guys cannot stand each other at times, but their need to survive and win for the sake of what is at stake sees them playing off each other magnificently.

Ep 9 was already giving me a lot of dust in my eyes, in how Zhang Yishan was reacting over the actress for Hongyu. Zhang Tian Ai reacting to the tension created by actor for Takeda slowly nailing her was gripping.

In episode 10, the dialogue between Zhang Tian Ai and the actor for Long Er was bittersweet. Impossible to look away when Long Er speaks of hoping to earn her trust and one day her acknowledgement, to be able to help do things for her. But in one night... I hope this actor gets a role in a future drama that really showcases his ability to totally sweep people away with his acting. Too much dust in my eyes, to see each of them expressing anguish in different ways, with tears and none.

Everyone here is really rising to the fore of being impressive.

I tried watching 17 episodes of "Ultimate Note" and it's messier with more loose ends compared to this…
It makes sense, though. If someone had to be lost in an adventure earliest for Wu Xie to learn and for our heartstrings to be tugged, it would be Da Kui. Weibo is replete with dedications to episode 8 between Wu Xie and Da Kui (and Wu Xie and Cao Lei) under the hashtag #吴邪私家笔记第8集30分37秒#.

That said, it is heartening to note that this team will be in the future adaptations including the new Heavenly Palace:

You don't have to shave anything. Just do your best to get as many people as possible to convince the author, Director and Producer to go all the way with this team ;D

https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1PvnZzMENv/ - The trio are hilarious in this combination of BTS, especially XZX and CX. Rough translation below:

XZX: Mine's also nice to drink!
CX: (looks over, curious) I want a sip (then proceeds to take XZX's cup of bubble tea and take a drink without waiting for an answer, and XZX willingly releases the cup) - Delicious!

0:11 - CX: He has something in his stomach.
(Wang Pang Zi laughs very loudly in the background)
XZX: Kneel for me!
0:18 - CX: (refuses to accept this order, proceeds to step forward and lowering his knees, grabs XZX by the shoulders)

I'll leave the rest for whoever wants to enjoy watching them clown around.

That would be great. And given the trend of audience attention spans these days plus time constraints for domestic viewers, I think this approach is best.

Title The Tower of Whispers Spoiler
They were married for 2 years and had sex countless times, yet after rebirth she was blushing and shy when she…
I wonder if she ever enjoyed her status as his consort at any point, because she did not seem to have any positive emotions with him while having to sexually please him. She sounded hugely traumatised and vengeful in episode 1. It's much harder to maintain a vengeful front, when confronted with rebirth in the supposed reality of a mostly-obedient slave coming across as human with weaknesses.

Even though we are in modern times and there's a lot of semi-nudity in entertainment, it does not translate into females in a chinese-majority society being automatically comfortable seeing half-naked guys outside specific circumstances such as the beach. I don't think the Director is painting FL as a common pure untainted FL. I would expect any female of noble birth in those times to find it inappropriate to be in a room alone with a male who is half-naked (unless it's your husband that you are comfortable with) given the societal mores.

In episode 4, she told him to take his clothes off while it was night-time. She was quite hostile and curt about it while remembering what he had done to her, but averted her eyes mostly even after seeing his wound. She wasn't blushing or shy. Why was she behaving differently in episode 5? Well, he was changing and she was not mentally prepared.

It would also be completely odd for her to be automatically comfortable with seeing his half-naked body, while also considering how he previously humiliated her and dominated her into always giving in to whatever he wants. Overall, she isn't comfortable with him in that previous life. When she first met him before rebirth, he made her kneel. "Horrible unacceptable guy" is the impression I got of Jun Che in episode 1 and as long as he remains like that, I wouldn't want her to fall for him. But we'll see what happens, when the next chance rolls around.

https://m.weibo.cn/status/5215499757816972 - As to three lifetimes ie a third chance for the two leads to get a happy ending, in episode 7 our FL is not just a sweet strong feisty lead. She is intent on dishing out and enjoying revenge as equal or worse suffering for those who harmed her family the first time around. Whether she is smart enough about it at this point will be seen in episode 9.

Ep 8 is clearly laying some groundwork for the two important males in FL's life to clash badly.

And this drama has just broken the IQiyi 4500 heat index :)

damned Jun Che is something else pretending to be a slave. I did not expect this at all
This minidrama is well-structured and if you're wondering why the quality resembles a movie at times for aspects such as pacing, cinematography and acting: The Director Zhou Jiu Qin is responsible for helming generally well-executed minidramas such as "The Lady And The Lies" (2023) and 声色犬马 (2024) plus vertical drama "The Love Of A Fool" (2025).
Vertical dramas are a hugely-profitable industry.

https://english.elpais.com/culture/2025-01-24/inside-chinas-micro-drama-boom-how-one-minute-episodes-are-taking-cellphone-viewers-by-storm.html

[ The micro-drama industry now generates astronomical figures. In 2024, revenues soared to 50.44 billion yuan (approximately $6.8 billion), surpassing box office earnings for the first time, according to the China Network Broadcasting Service Association. By June, the number of users had reached 576 million. ]

I enjoy watching He Lan Dou's acting. After what happened to her, the strong FL in this drama is clearly prioritising her brain over her emotions as seen across 6 episodes, and the ending might be justifiably happy because of the plot (spoilers below):
