When he entered Ghost Valley he was made to drink a potion to forget the past but by sheer willpower he held on…
This is an interesting addition by the drama. I hope the drama will take this further instead of just let it stand without follow up.

I am not at all bothered by the shidi issue, it is much ado about nothing. It is very common trope for shixiong…
Agreed with you here. I think the relationship started to change in episode 11/12 when Zhao Zhi Su chose to open his identity "first" in the hope that someday Wen Ke Xing would follow suit. The shixiong-shidi is only the drama way to evade censorship when they add holding hands, hugging, and any other intimate gesture in the future.

Currently, the flavor of the relationship is in angst period. It is the moment when Wen Ke Xing will finally lay himself bare in front of Zhao Zhu Si. I love it when Zhao Zhi Su become so protective toward Wen Ke Xing. This man has grown up alone without anyone to depend on and protect him. He needs lots of love to be able to heal.

To each their own I suppose. While it took some viewers 14+ episodes to get into The Untamed, I found it interesting…
That kind of blind obsession will not give anything of value to their idol in the end. As of now, more and more neutral drama watchers in China are annoyed toward traffic actor and their fans (not to mention after the scandal of 227 last year).

I also failed to finish Legend of Fei. The characters failed to interest me and I found Zhao Li Ying acting to be too stiff. I am no fan of both lead so I had no drive to continue on. And the Winner is Love, I also failed to finish until today since the story became boring nearing the end.

For adaptation, changing characterization is a big taboo. DC unfortunately crossed the line too far, no matter the reason. Not to mention, that the drama practically butchered the logic behind cultivation system (like what Fight Break Sphere has also done). That also big no no for xuanhuan genre which prided itself its "scientific logic" of the cultivation system.

What drama only fans need to understand that all novel fans have desire to see how their beloved character be portrayed in real life. One thing that live adaptation wins absolutely compared with animation or books is that living human can portray the emotion the best. A simple description in the book or stiff expression in animation could never be compared with a true interpretation by real human. All book fans wish the adaptation to do well. So, in DC thread, I took those comments that told us original fans to return to our book and anime as very harsh and cruel. Here, in WoH, I am now a drama fans. Even though I did read the book, but I read it after watching the drama, so my mind should be rather biased. It is my turn now to be respectful toward the original fans.

As far as I can see it, even though there are some unsatisfactory toward shixiong-shidi development, the majority of book fans are more or less accepting this adaptation which is good for me. In my opinion, after reading the book, the drama weaken both leads even though the core personality is still the same. But, in return, the drama enhance the emotional portion of the story. So far, the emotional troupe in the drama is very good. Having a more human Zhao Zhi Su and Wen Ke Xing is not too bad .....

DC is the only place where I see drama and actor fans dissing the original fans. I have never experienced such thing, even when I roasted Fight Break Sphere as an abomination of adaptation. Usually, drama fans are quite respectful toward original fans opinion and often asking for spoiler of explanation of certain things (which original fans will always happily oblige). We see it happens here, where lots of us asking those who have read the novel to spoil and to explain things. I don't understand what happened with DC, perhaps it has something to do with the traffic actor it has. Sigh......

I did finish watching DC, but with literally skipping like ten episodes near the end. I could not tolerate that drama any longer. Watching it felt like a chore for me. Regarding whether you should continue on DC, it depends whether you like this genre (xuanhuan). It is an average drama in my opinion but it will be quite enjoyable for those who are not familiar with the original. But since you said that you put it on hold in such early episodes, I think the drama perhaps is not your cup of tea.

I am just done watching WoH until episode 25 raw. This drama just getting more interesting. I love the character dynamic and how mature the storyline is. It is no masterpiece like Jin Yong works, but certainly I enjoying this much more than any recent wuxia drama (The Legend of Fei; And the Winner is Love).

Ah, I see. Anyway, I am glad you can see the problem in bringing The Untamed name in other BL drama discussion. Well, the current situation is quite bad but I do feel that The Untamed stan just has gone too far, which kind of conditioning other people to react negatively every time The Untamed is brought up as comparison.

I hope you will enjoy Word of Honor, then. There will also be quite a number of BL dramas come out this year.

Some posted on Weibo that WOH is running out of time as Immortality is rumored to start premiering on April 8.…
There is not even an assurance that Immortality will do well. I hope it will though, since I love the novel very much.

Also, by April, WoH will already enter its final phase which will interest the audiences. Character wise, in my opinion, watching Wen Ke Xing redemption will be far interesting than watching the early phase of Moran and Chu Wan Ning.

To each their own I suppose. While it took some viewers 14+ episodes to get into The Untamed, I found it interesting…
Truthfully, I cannot differentiate whether those The Untamed stan loves the drama for the story or because of the actors. Because I feel that they are far too obsessive, as if there should be no drama dare to be better than The Untamed.

Regarding DC, yeah, I was the one who created that special discussion thread. I just could not take it any longer with drama fans and actor fans. All their condescending words towards original fans just make me straight mad. I have tried to make them understand but my explanation fell to deaf ears. So I chose to not talking to them any longer. Thankfully, here the original fans and drama fans are respecting one another, as it should be. In my opinion the insight from those who are already familiar with the original in an adaptation discussion is quite important.

Now, lets talk about WoH. One thing that make me love WoH is the mature character. I no longer have patient to watch story about emo teenager moving through phases, as I become older. Both Zhao Zi Su and Wen Ke Xing are adult that are aware of their life choices. They are fully responsible for their own sin and they have to will themselves for their redemption.

I understand your point of view of bringing The Untamed into comparison. And in normal situation, this will be acceptable. The problem is, The Untamed fans (or perhaps calling them stan will be more suitable), has wreaked havoc before under other BL dramas section, which annoyed lots of people. I say that these people had done disservice to their own favorite drama.

I, too, have watched The Untamed and thought that it was okay. But even then, I can no longer stand those who always bring up The Untamed in every BL drama discussion. It is as if they wish that all BL drama else than The Untamed will be failed.

I think it is just because people have been long annoyed toward The Untamed stan that an honest and simple comparison will be seen more critically.

Finally someone say it! I can understand why certain people so are so enamored with The Untamed but their attitude of thinking that "nothing will ever top The Untamed" is so annoying. It is as if that The Untamed is the best BL drama that ever be made, which is not. There are people out there who don't really like that drama. I myself preferring Word of Honor because I like the acting better here. Not to mention Wen Ke Xing character that bordering antagonist is very much to my taste.

To be fair though, the comments from The Untamed fans here are still acceptable which is why I stay silent. I have seen what their comments under Immortality drama videos in YouTube; those were not pretty at all. But, overally I agree with you. It is time for people to stop quoting The Untamed in every BL drama that comes out after it.

If you can choose only ONE out of the four - GJ, WYB, XZ & ZZH, who is the most attractive and handsomest of them…
It is Gong Jun for me. Like his eyes and overall feature. He gives a vibe of both masculine and pretty in the same time. Zhang Zhe Han is also handsome, but Gong Jun is more exquisite in my opinion.

For Wang Yi Bo and Xiao Zhan, I have never attracted to them when I was watching The Untamed. They are handsome, yes, but just not my type.

Agree with you that this story actually wuxia rather than xianxia. The martial arts is quite prominent here and the "magic" here is more about inner energy. Also, there are many names of sect that you will always find in wuxia like Wudang and Ermei.

I am in the middle of reading the novel. I think the drama toned down Zhao Zi Su cold blooded action. But, the core characterization is very much a nod down toward the original material. So far so good. Just another drama that tell those producer to never use "lack of budget" as justification of their mediocre job. Audiences can feel sincerity and we know when to respect a work brought by passion and hard work.

Currently watching this. This is the first time I have ever seen Gong Jun drama. I fall in love with his acting here. His Wen Ke Xing is so fascinating. I like seeing how he switches from being gentleman to being a cold blooded murderer and vice versa.

Planning on reading the novel while chasing the drama.

Shouldn't compare web drama and TV drama, censorship works differently
I suspected that they saw how big the fandom of the donghua and then just wanted to milk it. My biggest question is why they dared to take on this project with low budget? About the scriptwriter ... we have discussed about this, hahahaha

Like the author would actually reject any script rewrite considering the popularity/following this has LOL. #$$$…
I took any words about the author approval for this adaptation with grain of salt. Because what he said before and after drama airing were different. I think he said whatever suited for marketing this drama.

Exactly my question! Why pick Douluo Dalu? If you knew from the beginning that you would have to butcher the IP and drive majority of original fans mad, why continued in this road?

And I remembered in the beginning, before the drama released, this was marketed as "restored to original" or something like that. And then the drama was aired, lots of complain from original fans, thus the production along with the novel author sang a different tune then.

douban rating only 6.1 dude, forget it
Eternal Love Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms score seems to be decreased after the scandal of plagiarism of the novel. High chance it was higher before which led to Pillow Book being made. You cannot compare it with Douluo Continent

Ah! They removed Hao Tian Sect from the story. I thought before I will be able to see those powerful people, like…
Eh? Didn't the drama keep the fact of 7 powerful clans? Then Clear Sky clan should be inside it. Perhaps they just chose to not say anything about it in this drama and just spinning a tale that Tang Hao was related to Soul Hall to give ..... some connection for this character.

There was something in Episode 35 (and beyond) that would disqualify this drama in my eyes if it had appeared…
Hmmm, would you be kind to write in detail regarding this "age error"?? I am sorry, but because of my "novel" filter, I kind of giving up by episode 21 and then just watching by skipping around. So I ..... lack some detail.

Even the visual cannot hold my interest. I think this drama has done disservice to Xiao Zhan. The wig looks bad and the make up makes him looks older.
