To be honest, I somehow feel that Reunion is a kind of Alternate Universe for The Lost Tomb series. The Wu Xie in the Reunion is not Wu Xie that I have known in the entire main series and The Tomb of the Sea.

As I have said before, Xu Lei said that the web novel version of Reunion is a more or draft version and he will add the element from the drama to the novel later on. At this point, I have no hope to the Restart novel (the base for Reunion drama). In my mind, The Lost Tomb series ended at Ten Years Later novel.

I hope so. Reading the comments in bilibili and douban, I get the feel that the books fans feeling toward Xu Lei mainly already cold. And the main drive for Reunion popularity was not books fans but actor fans. On the other hand, the main drive for Ultimate Note popularity is books fans.

I think it is a hard blow to him that his books fans practically rejected the adaptation that came from his hand but very much accepting the one that didn't have his involvement at all.

As I see it, Zhang Qi Ling holds a very special place within the heart of the majority of the books fans. So when they see how Xu Lei treated this character in Reunion drama, they just rioted. Ultimate Note just like adding oil to fire. I think the main reason why books fans love Ultimate Note so much is because Xiao Yu Liang acting. They love this actor interpretation so much. From all comments that I have read about him, 99,99% is all praise.

I do agree that he is the best xiaoge as of now and will be very difficult to be topped by any other actor.

Huan Rui produced The Lost Tomb 1 (with Li Yi Feng as Wu Xie and Yang Yang as Zhang Qi Ling) and The Lost Tomb 2 -Explore with Note (with Neo Hou as Wu Xie and Cheng Yi as Zhang Qi Ling). Heavenly Palace is a direct sequel of this The Lost Tomb 2. Ultimate Note actually following story after Heavenly Palace.

I cannot say anything about the chemistry since we don't even have any trailer yet. Bai Shu that acted as Wu Xie, I like his acting in Love and Redemption. So perhaps he will do well as Wu Xie. My concern is with the actor plays as Zhang Qi Ling: Zhao Dong Ze.

One thing that set apart Xiao Yu Liang from other Zhang Qi Ling actors is his martial arts and professional dancer background. Those background made him able to make Zhang Qi Ling fighting scene superb and so amazing to behold. The other thing is his temperament and aura that successfully humanize Zhang Qi Ling and makes the audience distressed about this character. All of these make it very hard for any other actor to be compared with him. Moreover, Heavenly Palace was produced around the same time with Ultimate Note so they would not have opportunity to adjust the script or anything to make their adaptation more palatable.

I have no hope that the level of fighting scene will be as high as in the Ultimate Note. Chemistry will up to debate later after the drama is aired. I only hope that Heavenly Palace at least will be true to the novel characterization.

It is a matter of pride, I think. I read that he didn't even promote Ultimate Note at all. Perhaps he never thought that Ultimate Note will be loved like this by books fans.

I think everyone agree that The Lost Tomb main series needs a remake with the same actors and production team in order to give a sense of continuation. Before Reunion, the books fans seemed to agree that Xu Lei and his production house will be the one most capable for this. But after Reunion and then seeing what Ultimate Note brought to the table, lots of people have different mindset now.

I hear that there was no advertisement for this drama back then. Currently it comes to people attention mainly because of one of the actor, Xiao Yu Liang, get more popular thanks to Ultimate Note. I am so putting this in my watch list. It seems pretty interesting.

As far as I know, this character is still mysterious until now. The author hasn't given out much about his background

As far as I know the author is playing deaf currently. The books fans .... as I see it .... quite mad how the drama that has no author involvement proved to be very obedient toward the original material while the one that has his involvement is pretty much ...... I read the comments in Douban. Most of the books fans claim that the iron triangle in Reunion drama is OOC which I tend to agree. Iron triangle in Reunion feels rather disconnected from the iron triangle depicted in Ultimate Note and The Tomb of the Sea.

I am all supporting the Chinese fans in this matter. Let's hope they will be able to do something.

It is correct. It is produced by Huan Rui while Ultimate Note is produced by Linghe. I think both are produced around the same time with Heavenly Palace might produced even earlier. It just aired later.

I am familiar with both actor for Wu Xie and Zhang Qi Ling from their work in Listening Snow Tower and Love and Redemption. Well, let see how it will perform. Ultimate Note has set the bar quite high regarding plot and chemistry. Not to mention the great fighting scene choreography

I also love Zhu Yi Long ever since Guardian. I was literally chasing his old dramas back then. But his Wu Xie ..... lacking a weight that show the mental scar from the 10 years waiting Zhang Qi Ling. It is reasonable for Wu Xie in Reunion to be different from Wu Xie in Ultimate Note since Wu Xie in Reunion already through a lot. But still, something is lacking. I cannot see his attachment to Zhang Qi Ling at all. I don't think that was the Wu Xie who had done lots of thing just for giving Zhang Qi Ling a safe world for him to return.

Ultimate Note showed us the budding relationship of the iron triangle. By right we should see a much more close knit iron triangle in Reunion, not those useless romance lines.

I haven't read Reunion novel. However, from the information I get from the internet, the drama added lots of thing that were not present in the web novel. But, I hear that Xu Lei himself said that the web novel version was more of a draft version and the events in the drama would be incorporated later in the final version of the novel.

The fans out there concluded that regarding Reunion, Xu Lei actually write the script first then the novel.

I honestly feel rather uncomfortable with this sequel because the characters feels so ...... OOC (even without the addition of all those romance lines). It is beyond me that Wu Xie never thinks about what Zhang Qi Ling fate after he died. He just said that he was sick and expect Zhang Qi Ling to go with him in a last quest that basically killing him even faster. Was this really the Wu Xie I know? The one that got obsessed of getting Zhang Qi Ling home?

Ultimate Note is part of the main series of 8 books. Reunion is the sequel of the main series.

No, we don't. But those in China might. Sigh .... I wish them luck in their endeavor. It seems it is very hot in weibo currently. Sadly I cannot access them. The fans just get angrier because Xu Lei blocked every question about Ultimate Note and Zhang Qi Ling in his live broadcast.

I truly cannot understand why the novel author butchered his own work by his own hand like this. Pingxie is a very very popular pairing in China. It is crazy to disregard that and adding lots of new character for romance lines instead. And why he chose a director who was not familiar with the original novel is beyond me .....

At this moment, I only want the cast of Ultimate Note to continue filming the book 8. No less no more. If we are lucky, then we perhaps can have Qin Hao and Xiao Yu Liang to re-enact Wu Xie and Zhang Qi Ling in Ten Years Later novel.

I got more information regarding Xu Lei and his Reunion production team. It seemed that even though Xu Lei was the chief screenwriter, they had more than one screenwriter. What is worse was that the director didn't familiar with the original novels at all, and that the production team (or perhaps only the director) was targeting the general audience instead of books fans, thus the addition of romance lines.

Based on those fact, I think Xu Lei production company is rather shady. I don't know whether they have realized their wrong in adapting Reunion novel after seeing the crazy response of fans toward Ultimate Note. Therefore, I honestly don't have high hope for Xu Lei production company at the moment. Moreover, the last arc of The Lost Tomb main series is full of pingxie moment. Do you really want the team who had butchered pingxie in Reunion until it was no longer recognizable to adapt the last book of the main series?!

Currently, there is a tremendous amount of support from the fans for the Ultimate Note production team to produce the continuation of this drama. But the problem is the copyright is resided with the novel author now. And the author has his own production company to produce the adaptation for his novels. I read that Xu Lei has this intention to re-make the drama from the beginning. So getting the copyright of book 8 will be difficult.

I think there is some kind of war currently happen in China between Doumu Biji fandom (majority consisted by books fans) and Xu Lei (insinuated by the comments I read in bilibili). This really make me realize how big this fandom truly is ..... Some fans even dare to talk about crowdfunding.

Your speculation is correct. The production team of Ultimate Note is indeed the original book fans, hahahaha. They pretty much formally admitted that.

I got to this fandom through The Lost Tomb 1 with Yang Yang. Unfortunately I was not into online discussion back then either active or passive. So, I am not privy what truly happened.

As far as I know, the early plan was to split the series into a number of season with the same cast. But seems lots of things happened after then. Both Li Yi Feng and Yang Yang got out from Huan Rui which was the copyright holder of The Lost Tomb series. I bet it would make it impossible for them to shoot the next season with the same cast. And, I read some information that Xu Lei didn't like Yang Yang, something about his hair when he acted as Zhang Qi Ling. I remember someone mentioned in a comment under some discussion that this fact actually offended Yang Yang fans that made them didn't want Yang Yang to have anything to do again with The Lost Tomb.

About Xiao Yu Liang, I am sure he has nothing to do with Xu Lei as of late. Ultimate Note didn't have Xu Lei participation at all. I think that banned action born from the fact that his book fans literally loving an adaptation that didn't come out form his hand and scolded the one that did. Even though I think the reasoning still too weak to explain the harsh action toward those who like Xiao Yu Liang and Zhang Qi Ling. Still, I need to stress it that people truly love Xiao Yu Liang for his act as Zhang Qi Ling. The praise is so high to the sky.

Or he is still salty from the scolding of fans toward his Reunion drama. The majority of comments under Ultimate Note in bilibili (especially Zhang Qi Ling video) comes from books fans and the majority of them annoyed with Reunion. Most of them seems to give up in the middle of season 1 and some of them just finished season 1 without bothering with season 2. Those who watched season 2, got very angry from the fact that Xiao Bai became fourth sister and how Fatty let Zhang Qi Ling shed blood. The fight regarding Reunion drama actually included Zhu Yi Long fans and the original novel fans. Well, I don't know how fierce this fighting back when Reunion was airing but as of now I read that there are fans of Reunion that bad-talked about Ultimate Note.

Same, I also like Xiao Yu Liang the most as Zhang Qi Ling. His Zhang Qi Ling feels human and exudes this aura of loneliness and detachment. Not to mention all of his fighting scene are sight to behold.

About Reunion, I think I have stated my opinion in one of my comments in this thread. I do agree with your assessment. Wu Xie and Zhang Qi Ling connection was very weak in Reunion. I do realize that the drama had some tender moments between them two, but I just could not feel it. There was no tension. Wu Xie in Reunion didn't feel as someone who had been separated from Zhang Qi Ling for 10 years and did lots of heinous things. Well, perhaps because I stopped watching in the middle of season 1. I just could not handle Xiao Bai.

I noticed that the majority of book fans are prizing Wu Xie and Zhang Qi Ling relationship very much. And Zhang Qi Ling himself is a very popular character. So when they see an adaptation honors both, they are very happy.

And yes, book 6 has two version. I think one version is longer .... as far as I know.
