Title Stand by Me
This drama obviously has a sad ending so people who likes it gonna watch the other modern drama with the leads…
As long as he get the girl in the end, I am fine with sad ending. The Promise of Chang An has steeled my heart, hahahaha. Li Yan fate in romance department would not be worse that that of Cheng Xu.

Wow. As one comment mentioned, it's surprising how people try to bring Yuan Bingyan's name while talking about…
Okay, I think this conversation has gone overboard. The conversation was started by Ayla Flower who wanted Zhang Yu Xi to be out from the cast. Without any reason whatsoever. To be honest, first time I saw her comment, I thought of her to be a Zhang Yu Xi hater because of her fierce wording. Also it has been so long since I left L&R drama thread, so I was not familiar with you three users. The conversation went on and Ayla Flower talked about Zhang Yu Xi bad acting.

Mira Vong then thought of her to be a CP fans because, lets be honest, L&R CP fans have been wrecking havoc out there, bashing Cheng Yi other FL co-star. IF you think you are not them, then I am glad. Ayla Flower defended herself and then Mira Vong asked her of her actress preference if she was so adamant regarding Zhang Yu Xi. No answer.

Then meme and me, responding to Mira Vong post. By that time, the conversation has gone to different direction already. We were no longer talking about Ayla Flower, but the current state of L&R CP fans. Yuan Bing Yuan got into the conversation was also quite normal. I commented about Yuan Bing Yuan acting a bit which, citing your own words, was within my right to do so. And please be reminded, the conversation has gone on from Ayla Flower as the point to Mira Vong as the point. The conversation would have been died there with my post. But you and Jasmine continued on.

I agree that everyone are free to state their opinion. But there is still an etiquette that you need to follow. The fact about Zhang Yu Xi being a FL was more or less already set in stone by the time Ayla Flower posted her comment. Therefore, it was normal if her comment offended people here in the drama thread.

By the way, just let this conversation died here. It is pointless to continue. The problem was cleared. And no one here raging toward your disliking Zhang Yu Xi. The problem started from the wording of Ayla Flower who made her looked like hater or CP fans. And some of us here are rather sensitive toward L&R CP fans because we see how them bashing other FL that paired with Cheng Yi.

I liked her acting when she was traumatized by her memories with Wu Tong in L&R. And don't mind these critics…
Me, too. It was her acting in that particular section that made me willing to give her a chance. Not to mention she looks pretty good in Meng Xing Chang An trailer.

I think FL being Zhang Yu Xi is more or less set in stone already? Since we already had news of her arriving at Yunnan. So why is her profile is removed from the drama thread?

Regardless there are some people who against her casting, her being the FL is the final decision. Honestly, my experience with Zhang Yu Xi is only Love and Redemption. So I cannot relate with people below who raving about her previous dramas. However, I do think that all of you need to give her chance instead of vehemently reject her as if her being in the drama is akin to plague. She is not the best out there for sure. But, currently we have limited option for FL for Cheng Yi in my opinion. Unless he paired with veteran actress, any actresses from the same age group more or less are the same regarding acting quality.

I might as well read the novel while waiting for his other dramas to be released.
I also hope Yin Tao still on board in this

y would u say that? jus askin....
To be honest, it is difficult to be a FL with Cheng Yi. The majority of actresses of the same age group as him don't have the same acting quality as him. In my experience of drama watching, I raged to lots of actresses because of their stiff acting. Even I don't spare Yang Zhi and Zhao Li Ying which are praised for their good acting. Yang Zhi in Ashes of Love disappointed me in certain scenes after Xu Feng death and Zhao Li Ying acting in Princess Agent turned me off.

But if I was to compare Yuan Bing Yuan with Zhang Yu Xi, I prefer Zhang Yu Xi based on their ability in emotional scenes in L&R. Any good actor/actress should be able to build chemistry with anyone they pair off.

I see that you finally reached at least episode 50, hahahaha. That posthumous title is consolation prize. Dead…
I would also love to see darker Cheng Xu that would not care too much about Ming Yu. Loving her gave him nothing but pain. All she knew to do was demand and demand from him. Except when she married Cheng Rui to save Cheng Xuan, I saw that she did nothing in active meaning in order to support him. She was so passive and in a way didn't care at all about Cheng Xu need of justice.

I don't see her actively supporting Cheng Xu at all. She just didn't care about who gonna sit on the throne. And when she knew the secret edict, she never tried to think other way to get out of it but Qi Yuan becoming emperor. Her action during his son committed wrong after wrong also gave me bitter taste. I saw that after some time, she seemed to deliberately forgetting why her son was on the throne in the first place and started thinking that it was really Qi Yuan rightful position.

If Cheng Xu didn't somewhat fall sick in episode 48 and died in episode 50, do you think Ming Yu will ever protect Cheng Xu from his son? I doubt it. She never did and never will.

I literally couldn't stop crying when Chengxu died. I knew that would be his fate in this drama and he ended up…
I see that you finally reached at least episode 50, hahahaha.

That posthumous title is consolation prize. Dead person wants and needs nothing. It cannot absolve the sin that Qi Yuan has done. What I hate is that Ming Yu never once truly think that Cheng Xu is worth of the title. First she supported her husband claim to the throne. And next she supported her son's. She literally swept the fact of how both their husband and son got that position under the rug.

Did you mean Northern Winds know My Feelings?!

What happen with it? That is an adaptation from novel. Did you imply that the scriptwriter was compelled to change something in order to cater for certain group of people?

And FL getting attacked .... I think this already happened once Meng Xing Chang An trailer came out? Sigh ..... These obsessive CP fans have become nothing but trouble recently.

According to C-fans the novel is very different. And the main male character isn't even Li Yan. The screenwriter…
Seeing how much care the scriptwriter put into this work, I hope we can see a superb production. As one of posters said, this will be a loose adaptation which is fine for me. As long as the change gives more flavor, I am all for deviation.

Moreover, Huan Rui already had success with L&R regarding deviation from the novel. So, I think they know what they are doing.

It is fine as long he died knowing that he was loved and already tasted the happiness with the woman he loved.
Yeah. But the drama itself is actually good. It has lots of life wisdom.

Meng Xing Chang An will also have a scene of ML death. Now, I want to see how Zhang Yu Xi tackle this. Because, however maddening FL character in The Promise of Chang An, Sarah Zhao actually was able to deliver very well in Cheng Xu death arc. I can feel that knife stabbed to my heart watching her acting.

Even though the ending of The Promise of Chang An more or less redeemed both those annoying character, I still feel that their regret came too late. Dead person needs nothing

Please hold on until the end. I know the process is maddening but the ending is such a release ...

Watched the raw until the end, skipped episode 51-54 for now though. I will watch that later with subs. Qi Yuan…
After watch until the end, I get what the scriptwriter want to show to us. This is one beautiful story even though the process is so maddening. It teaches us that what goes around will come around. A parents sin is like pilling up "bad luck" upon their descendant. This is true in real life.

Xiao Cheng Rui, stole the throne from his brother and justified it by saying that he was more worthy of the position. This character punishment was never get what he truly wanted in life: Ming Yu heart. Sadly, this was not stressed enough in the drama. I blamed Sarah Zhao acting skill in this. She lack the ability to differentiate love and respect. Cheng Rui strategized before his death to ensure his brother would never get the throne (out of spite in my opinion). But, look and behold! His chosen successor turned up to be failure of an emperor.

Ming Yu, chose her son over and over again by sacrificing Cheng Xu, cruelly broke his heart over and over again. However she justified her action by using motherhood, didn't make her action right. In the end she lived in regret. Alone for the rest of her life. The greatest punishment is not death but living.

Qi Yuan, this was a tragic character in a way. Both his parents owed Cheng Xu too much. Cheng Rui thought that he deserved the throne because he was more capable than Cheng Xu. But Qi Yuan his son grew up spoiled, became a bratty emperor with no capability. He had not have the very thing that his father used as reason of his right to the throne.
Ming Yu once "forced" Cheng Xu to marry Su Yu Ying, caused his household to know no peace. Qi Yuan also forced to marry his empress that more or less also wreaking havoc in the harem. Again, Ming Yu chose him over and over again despite his fault and forced to sacrifice Cheng Xu in the process. Now his beloved wife "chose" their dead son over him.
In the end, he died of illness that once took Cheng Xuan life and indirectly killed Cheng Xu, too. Alone, sad, and full of regret.

Both Ming Yu and Qi Yuan are redeemed, but they also had to live with guilt and regret. When Cheng Xu was alive, what came out from their mouth was only demand and more demand. Now he was dead, all that could come from their mouth was "I am sorry".

I like episode 55 very much because that episode showed what the extend of pain Cheng Xu dead brought to this pair mother and son.

Aside of FL acting skill, I deem this is a good drama. Full of meaning and life wisdom.
