wowww.. i found this fangs of fortune from comment section in The untamed MDL. thanks for recommendation. i just…
Haha I might be one of those people! I'm glad to know that someone from The Untamed page came across it and went to check it out! I hope you continue bc it's really good! I find the chemistry here to be even stronger compared to those two BL costume dramas (that's just my opinion tho)~ But to correct you, there's no demon in Word of Honor since it's a wuxia, not a xianxia or xuanhuan :) Anyways, enjoy! And you're right, the introduction is really good, especially that of Yuanzhou and Yichen's first encounter that was of them fighting against each other ;)
I agree. Loved the drama for the acting of the cast, cinematography, and their banter. The plot was "standard"…
For some reason, I was just curious to see how you maybe rated this drama, and I'm surprised it's a 10 with all the complaints you have about this drama. What makes you give it this high of a score? I'm curious on your intake on this.
I first saw him in My Journey to You. Oh, I love how he played his character there so bad. He was incredibly amazing there. He was able to act as a spoiled person who loved and felt the closest to his brother and was always jealous whenever someone (particularly Shangguan Qian) would get close to him so well. He was able to show his character's quirkiness and also mischievous personality. That evil smile / smirk he often gave too. Oh, that was really smth. And the way he always suspected those Wufeng spies literally had me rooting for him. He was able to show that his character was not just all that peculiar personality but also a pretty smart / observant one at that.
Now onto Fangs of Fortune. This was one of my most anticipated dramas. But yk, it really exceeded my expectations. I didn't expect it to be this good to the point of rating it a 10 (which isn't that easy to rate a drama). I remember his first appearance and I already loved his character from the get go. I was loving how different he was here too. I could tell just by the first scene of his that I was going to love his character here. And indeed, I do. He plays such a complex character, layered with so many different emotions that are hard to master. He was able to convey every single emotion perfectly. Whether it was those very subtle expressions, the intense or extreme emotions of what his character was feeling, his shyness in either reactions or smiles, or even just simple tears of joy that just felt so authentic. I mean, every emotion he conveyed felt so REAL. I could FEEL it every time. That's what drew me in to his character and to him as an actor.
I really look forward to his future roles. I am surely keeping an eye on him. I forget he's even in "Take Me Where the Clouds Rise" which is a drama I've highly been anticipating. I can't wait to see how he plays his character there! I even heard he'll be in "Painted Skin: The Resurrection" which I am so looking forward to! Seeing so much of the Fangs of Fortune cast reuniting there and FoF being one of my top favorite dramas... Oh boy, am I EXCITED!!
Oh, and fun fact... We share the same birthday! Well, that's quite rare if you ask me. Maybe it's fate I found him and he became one of my favorites as an actor XD Anyways, yeah, really... I've come to love him even more as an actor after watching FoF! All those deep, authentic layers of emotions he put out there was beautiful. I could tell he put his heart into playing his character. Even he himself said it was really difficult playing his character and look at how well and perfectly he did! I love the contrast to his character in MJTY. He utterly has amazed me, and I believe he will continue to do even more astounding as he continues acting! Looking forward to more from him!
Some of us like to think they can used the sundial again like how WenXiao spent 300 years in it and itโs only…
That's an interesting take. Maybe it's possible after all? But I'm not sure... I don't exactly like the idea of time manipulation. But I think at the same time it's pretty efficient. I do think about Li Lun tho and how he could've done that, so I'm not sure why they didn't explore the Sundial further for things like that for example. Anyways, as you can tell, I've definitely got many questions about it too and how it would work out, but now I'm not sure I'd like to think too hard about this bc the possibility of a season 2 is very low for us to see what would happen xD
If we were to get a second season, we are most likely to be seeing how Yuanzhou will come back. Since Yuanzhou told Li Lun about how it takes 100 years to cultivate into your true form, I would assume the same goes for Yuanzhou. So when you think about it, unfortunately, it seems like the squad wouldn't be there with them because they are mortals which means they'd already be gone by the time Yuanzhou comes back. Based on this, we can only imagine a happy ending for Yuanzhou and Yichen. So as much as I want a second season, it definitely wouldn't hit the same, But hey, we'd be seeing these two characters' bromance for sure (which definitely would never get released bc of censorship lol), which would be so nice to see again because their chemistry was insanely good. I would definitely root another drama for Neo Hou and Tian Jiarui if ever!
Glad you're liking The Untamed! It's a really good one! And Fangs of Fortune... yes, it's so good and it does indeed give off BL vibes surprisingly... Like even you see that as a non-BL fan. Which means it's clear that the directors / screenwriters were trying to show that to us lol. I also didn't get into BL until watching Word of Honor starting 2 months ago, then after that I went on rewatching The Untamed after (since they gave a notice it'd "leave" Netflix), and THEN after that began watching Fangs of Fortune as it started airing, all at the perfect timing shockingly lol. I now love BL, but this is more-so for historical C-dramas, really... Very beautiful and captivating to me. Still waiting for the dramas Eternal Faith, Immortality, and Winner is King (it may never air but you never know lol I bet these will be so good too).
Please share your thoughts once you have watched. I am on the fence with this one. Currently watching Dashing…
So it's been 3 months since we've replied to each other. What do you think about FoF? It honestly exceeded my expectations!! I ENJOYED IT SO MUCH!! Esp the bromance between the male leads! It was top tier! So refreshing after not seeing dramas with strong bromance like this! ๐ฅ๐ค
Don't tell me this is not BL when Yuanzhou and Yichen did these simple actions (which could have been overlooked) [SPOILERS AHEAD]:
- Before Yichen went to sacrifice himself for his friends in the Bingyi clan's forbidden area: The last person he talked to was Yuanzhou
- Before Yuanzhou died by Yichen's sword and Wen Xiao was right there beside him: The last person he looked / stared at was Yichen (both filled with so much emotion in their eyes)
The last person you interact with before leaving the world... For these two, it was each other. Wouldn't the last person usually be the person most important to you? This really shows the deep, emotional bond they share maybe even they themselves aren't fully aware of, and I think it's really beautiful.
For me - definitely. I watched Word of Honor, and although I liked the drama, Fangs of fortune left an incomparably…
I also watched WoH, but I totally agree with you that FoF left a bigger impression. There were parts of WoH I felt that could've been worked out better, but it was still an enjoyable watch.
But yeah, it's true that some people may not agree. Well, I'm someone who actually likes romance in dramas in general and don't often have a problem with them. And before watching FoF I thought the romance was the ML and FL and this was still one of my most anticipated dramas, but as I started, I already could feel the bromance in the beginning and was lowkey rooting for that, not expecting it to continue growing and growing as episodes came out. It was unexpected but I love it.
I think many people seem to agree that this drama uses het in a way that allows for different interpretations of relationships in this drama. I can totally see that when watching. Honestly basically anyone can be shipped lol. Maybe not Bai Jiu obviously, but if the actor was older and closer to Ying Lei's age, I'd prob be shipping it. I could tell Ying Lei had so much love for him (and don't forget about the "cut sleeve" which they changed its meaning ofc so it wouldn't come across weird for them).
Anyways, you're right. I always felt that the love triangle was between Yuanzhou, Yichen, and Li Lun. I didn't even need to squint to see that. It was just so clear. It was right in front my eyes. And you can see this between their interactions. They also seem to have fight scenes together where it was often Yuanzhou against Li Lun and then Yichen comes to fight against him for Yuanzhou. The emotional tension between these three is smth else. And don't forget the last episodes which consisted of mostly them. It was so refreshing to see them now fight alongside each other. Even Li Lun saved Yichen FOR Yuanzhou by giving him half his demonic power and the Truth Eye which was originally given by Yuanzhou. He even gave his other half to Yuanzhou. He said he couldn't stand him being "useless" with his sadly weakened body. If this does not show how much Li Lun loves Yuanzhou, then what is it?
It basically felt like Yuanzhou and Li Lun that turned from lovers to enemies and then Yuanzhou and Yichen eventually meet one day and become enemies to lovers. It's also how they look at each other with so much emotion that clearly shows it's more than just friendship in my opinion. I enjoyed it.
This is gonna be so random but does anyone feel that the bromance here is even stronger than The Untamed / Word of Honor despite it not being "BL"? I personally felt that for some reason due to various reasons, like their backstory and (tragic) fate and also... the gravitating strong chemistry between the two in general. Anyways all are amazing in their own way! I'm also saying this as someone who has The Untamed as one of my top favorite dramas of all time and enjoyed Word of Honor. Anyways, this really makes me wonder how this one passed censorship with all those touching moments between Zhao Yuanzhou and Zhuo Yichen (and a love triangle that includes Li Lun LOL). It's so rare getting these kinds of dramas so it makes me extremely happy we got this. It's so refreshing. Now I feel it's going to be difficult to top this one off, because really...
Yeah someone said that I donโt know what is wrong, I wanted jjy and joseph to have a love line ๐ฅฒ
Awh dang I actually wanted Ju Jingyi and Joseph Zeng together, and Tian Jiarui and Chen Duling... I think I would've preferred it like that. I also think about how his character in FoF had a small crush on her character lol it would've been cool to see how their chemistry would be like as a couple this time.
EDIT: Omg wait Yanan is paired with Chen Duling? NVM, I so look forward to their pairing esp after watching them in FoF!!
The fact that this is Lester Linโs first drama and itโs most likely not seeing the light of the day breaks…
Yes, and the fact that he now played a huge role in another BL (many of us like to believe it is bc the bromance is insane) "Fangs of Fortune"... Anyways, I really hope this sees the light of day somehow ๐ญ๐
1. Those first fight scenes we got between Yuanzhou and Yichen where Yichen wanted to k!ll him to avenge his family...…
I have not properly read this until now and omg the way you described that story really perfectly aligns with Yuanzhou and Yichen like woah... More of a reason to believe in the BL in this drama lol
