Title Gyeongseong Creature Spoiler
This girl is so wise in the first episode. It's so rare to find someone intelligent enough to understand that…
It wasnt explained well, but her actions do make sense. She was watching him to see what kind of person he was and if he really deserved the title Mr. Omniscient. She didnt assume he could or would help her. Which was smart. A rich Korean in occupied Korea is a likely sign of a collaborator. She was getting a sense on if this Mr. Omniscient could be trusted enough to reveal herself. The fight was reasonable cause he didn't know why some random “dude” was tailing him and she didnt know he wasnt going to shoot her for real. Their conversation during and after fight (his assumptions on who sachimoto was were very insulting for the time) convinced her even if he isnt working with the Japanese, he wasnt a dude she wanted to work with: Mr. Trash. As for going to his house, her dad took a job from his Lady Butler. And they take jobs where they can to survive. Plus the job meant they might have leverage to get whatever information they could from Mr. Trash. But than he opened his mouth and she became convinced again he is
useless. Its a classic pride and prejudice set up, but could have been conveyed better.

Any romance in this?
There are some comical attraction at first sight moments and a clear trust is formed in the first seven episodes but its not a romance and there is way too much going on for romance to be any characters real priority.

When everyone is inside the hospital/lab/prison it becomes a lot quicker. That being said I didnt find the first few episodes boring so what I think is fast may still be a bit slow for you. I definitely recommend watching the first seven episodes that dropped before stopping. That’ll give you the best sense of what all twenty episodes have of seasons 1 & 2 will be like.

We’ve still got 3 more episodes of season 1 plus all 10 episodes of season 2. Maybe it will slowly build to the more thought provoking thoughts? I hope so too. You are right the setting and monster metaphor are perfect for
it.

What a swine that Kwon Joon Taek is. Right from the get-go he endangered the others going into the 'hospital'…
I was super mad at him too until I realized whatever they injected him with must have been super awful. In less than a few hours he looked like he’d been tortured for days. Even real spies are told they only have to hold on for a few days if captured. The assumption is everyone breaks so just buy enough time for your side to try to get their people out. I was a little more mad when he left ML to deal with that one guard. But ML made it clear they both had priorities and had agreed to pursue them separately. So he didnt betray the ML and apparently had a huge amount of faith ML would win that fight.

I know the Japanese occupation of Korea is still a sore topic for many Koreans, I feel this series probably lead…
More Koreans are depicted as heroic and more Japanese as villainous but its not all one or the other. The Japanese painter and the cop who follows ML around seem like good men in a crap scenario. That one freedom fighter who knows where the dynamite is was a dick. He liked being the hero and thought he should be saved no matter what. He’s doing better after ML yelled at him but that doesn’t mean he isn’t still a dick. The SML’s dad is a corroborator so say what you will about how much he loves his son, that alone means he’s done some very bad stuff to maintain his power. The perspective is slanted but its not advocating one side or the other as inherently good or evil people so much as the situation is bringing out extremes in everyone. Most people dont act their best selves when part of an oppressor class.

Im curious about Lady Maeda more than angry. That may change as more is revealed but so far she’s a fascinating enigma What was her relationship with the FL’s mom? Does that doctor ever listen to her orders correctly? She said keep the mistress alive till baby is born. He let her get exposed (almost) to anthrax, damp, malnutrition, verbal and physical abuse etc. So when she asked him to look after the mother was it to hurt her or an attempt at protecting her? How is she involved in the hospital truly? He says she’s the main investor but its been going on so long, how old was she when it started? Is it her investment or a family obligation she has to carry? Its interesting.

Question on the SML in spoiler below:
Am I the only one who felt guilty after being super mad at the best friend/freedom fighter for seemingly caving in and writing the names so easily? Its not cause it doesnt make sense. No one can or should stand up to torture for very long. But it just didnt seem like he was being tortured until the very end where he collapsed and we saw how wrecked he was. Whatever they injected him with must have been awful. Really want to know what it was.

is it just me (or rather my settings) or is Park Seo Joon's face makeup's weirdly yellow and does not match his…
It is not just you. That is my only criticism of this so far. In many scenes they seem to be using a more orange foundation than his actual skin tone and its not blended beyond his face. They seem to use the same tone in later episodes on the mistress after she’s been in jail. Its silly because he is actually tan if thats what they are going for. I suspect they were trying to combat the softening filters used in dramas so he’d stay more tan than anyone else. It fits his rough, brought himself up from the gutter, character.

is there any point in watching this is if i didn’t enjoy the first episode?
Yes. Id say watch at least the first 2. It really comes together and feels truly bingeable sometime between episode 3-4. Which is good since the overall story is slated to be 20 episodes split between two seasons that are split into parts.

Title Gyeongseong Creature Spoiler
Maybe it was already discussed in the comments here but I wonder how the intro is tied to the actual story ? Because…
From comments FL and her dad made, the manchurian lab (which is what we saw at the beginning) also had a monster. They mentioned they went there and referenced terrible things they saw there. It looks like that lab was destroyed. And they moved the experiment to under this hospital to try again. Doc seemed pretty knowledgeable about what symptoms were signs the host could handle the “serum” he injected into them after they didnt bash their heads in because of the parasite. Plus that one guy mentioned the only way to kill the monster is to burn it. And we got a flash of that clip.
BUT it is possible that clip was shown out of order and whoever the final monster in this show is (like end of season 2) is the monster we
saw burning. In which case maybe that’ll end up being a moment we either cry for someone dying or rejoice when they save themself? We will have to wait and see. This is a 20 episode drama broken into two seasons and the seasons were broken into parts. So some things may not be relevant until season 2.

What will happen to psj Is he also going to become a gyeongseong creature?
He didnt drink the cup parasite. Unless showing the mistress was infected is a misdirect. BUT! Him or the FL being infected before the end of season one or during season 2 does seem in keeping with this shows tone, messaging and reveals.

Hahaha, my theory based off how much attention they’ve given that and nothing else, is while the mistress might be a monster for the last three episodes and have a show down with Mommy Monster, they are setting up something bigger with Mistress’s baby for season 2.

LOL, I feel really bad for her on that one. There she was being saved from a hellhole of a prison where they likely did not properly hydrate her pregnant person and all she did was innocently drink a glass of what appeared to be water in someone’s office. How was she to know it had a practically invisible monster parasite swimming around inside of it? I do wonder if her being pregnant and now infected
will mean her baby may be an issue in season 2 if she can deliver it before mommy monster does anything to her recently turned monster self in season 1.
