Hmmm, its primarily the back and forth of political plotting with lots of new characters and GJ learning to wade in those waters. LY continues her business empire. Stuff threatens it. They work that out. The princess who wanted to marry GJ should show up with her own childhood backstory for liking him. There is a lot more but Im not really sure what they will keep and drop. For LZS the first significant thing that should happen is he leverages his power over Yangzhou into becoming the crown prince’s teacher. Another reason Fan Yu goes darkside although he was already cruel to a fault. And another reason LZS will show up more.

I love watching her eyes to get clues to scenes. Her body language is great but if you want to know how LY is really feeling, check if her eyes look straight and hard, large and happy, wide and scared etc. not everyone can convey as much as she does with just eyes.

GJ uncle in prison isnt royal. He was a political comrade of King Liang. Thus being imprisoned. Hes the family member GJ takes after the most in the book. Hes also a beloved uncle. Not just some distant stranger who carries the title. Although their politics dont always align. GJ would have worried about him no matter what mom said.

His ambitions are higher. He wants to be in a position to help stabilize the whole country. We wont see most of that in this drama but we should see enough. They said they arent doing the last half (two arcs) in the drama.

She’s actually very good. She just has to play a very contained character. Which is her characters arc: learning to be her true self. Her crying scenes at the beginning were for comedic effect. You’ll see later when she does a truly grief stricken crying scene that she is top notch. Give it till episode 6 to see she’s good on different levels and episode 15 to see some really great tragic acting.

Its a good pain. Totally worth it. And for the most part very rarely painful. Just a few episodes.

Yeah. Im okay with him vocalizing certain things because thats the difference in mediums. In books characters can be 100% internal voice. Even if they dont articulate a feeling as thought a lot can be communicated just by who they are thinking about and when they think about them. In a drama, they have to translate those internal thoughts into words or actions. Words usually take up less screen time. The part that makes me laugh is LZS is barely a character until the capitol arc. If they didnt make the changes they have, we wouldnt get to see him. And that would suck.

His romanticization of their interactions was always one sided. Originally in the book her disguise in Yangzhou worked and giving him the umbrella was a ploy to distract him while other people got away. Basically, she showed caring and got one over on him. He was enamored. I agree that scene would have been really great to have kept in. I think because a-lot of the coming political storylines are getting streamlined, they used this reimagined arc as a way to communicate his devious opportunism. No idea if they will keep the life saving bits. Those parts are down the road in the story from where we are at. In the book LY does not know his feelings until they get to the capitol. They’ve moved and changed alot of their relationship beats for the drama. No idea if they’ll show her figuring out his feelings or not. Either way, she never reciprocates. She does mourn who he and other characters who share his background could have been if their lives had gone a different path.

I really dont know how King Liang is related to the emperor/gained his title. I think I assumed he was a brother to the emperor. But I was reading MTL. So I could be way off. Maybe ask CloudA in her discussion thread?

If that is your definition I still don’t think this counts. The female lead does not have any idea the antagonist has feelings for her. She barely suspects that he may possibly be a kid she knew in childhood. His feelings have 0 impact on her or the MLs emotions or relationship as of episode 28. We’ve got 12 episodes to go. It could change.

It should be political but not like harem palace politics.

In the book LY led the woman who were available to support the men on the wall by carrying supplies, weapons and getting the wounded down. Thus being in the vicinity of the wall. I think the drama just hoped we’d assume she stayed up there in her wedding finery to watch over GJ and companies suicidal charge.

The romance is the best part. Its a mistaken forced marriage, slow burn, honest communication, bickering friends to inexperienced lovers. The overall story is coming of age business/kingdom building amidst some very dangerous times. As of episode 28 there are no love triangles. Both leads had almost marriages that were not romantic and the antagonist has feelings for the female lead. However, while that informs some character motivations, it had no impact on the leads. They are always focused on each other once they are married. Which happens super quick. If you decide to watch I recommend going till at least episode 4-6 to decide if you want to continue.

I recommend it! The changes they made in drama aren’t massive enough to be a conflict with the book or vice versa. The book will really just make certain events more clear.

Yes. The ending is satisfying. They said they arent filming the whole book. But it should still be happy. I had to MTL the novel so timeframes are not exact. From their marriage to consummation one section said it was like two years. Up to that point I thought it had already been four years. So maybe story in all is 5-10 years. But my count could be way off. Lots of events occur that could have taken more or less time.
