He’s very similar to our ML except his life has been their cultures version of hell: abandoned by his family…
He generally hates the Gu family believing they are the source of many of the terrible things that happened to him. He more specifically hates GJ because he’s jealous of him. He feels everything GJ has should have been his. There is a misunderstanding involved but only one living person knows the truth so he wont find that out for a long time.
How did Fan Xuan become Emporer so easily? Was it just because it happened to be him that fought off the rebellion?…
The byplay between Fan, Daddy General Zhou and the court was a lot more complex in the book. Basically, King Liang killed most of the emperors children or potential heirs. The orphan should be the surviving princess who is also the princess that wanted to marry GJ. Fan used his influence, money and position as savior of the capitol city to leverage his way into being emperor. The Empress Dowager supported him because he was the best and most honorable choice to protect what remained of her family and the government so the country could be stabilized. Also aside: general zhou was a-lot cleverer in the book. Some of the crap stuff he did to his son was actually a bluff so he could protect at least one of his kids if something went wrong. He was a sourpuss and super tough and discriminatory to ZY. He had his reasons. His fears about what would happen to his family after Fan Xuan died and Fan Yu became emperor were like 90% of those reasons during the capitol and later arcs.

He pursues power to have the things he wants and take revenge on those he hates. He does have a conscience. Rewatch the scene where the besty is being beheaded. The actor did a really good job of showing the subtle discomfort the character had with his death. Because everything the friend said and the promise he demanded of GJ resonated with LZS. Its just he’s too wrapped up in his goals and disregards his own instincts to help and improve the plight of the people. Thanks to his upbringing, LZS actually understands what it is to be powerless and poor more than any other character. He just chose to prioritize himself instead of trying to fix the problems. The best part of the book ending is GJ and LY state they want to help people like LZS who are poor, powerless and mistreated. In that way, maybe there wont ever be someone like LZS again. There were other characters with similar arcs to LZS that also inspired GJ and LY’s ambition. They’ve combined parts of Lady Xs story with another character so I think the drama is making her one of them.
Its a good arc. GJ has a-lot to try to balance in order to protect LY and serve the country.
If they only do the capitol arc and dont try to combine it with the last two arcs that they said they werent including in the drama, it should be able to get most of it across. If they combine, they may have to streamline a-lot.
I have a confusion, it's also a question. How is it fan Xuan's turn in the line of succession. He's not an imperial…
You got it. There werent any of the clan or other good candidates with the level of power and reliability needed except Fan Xuan. Dowager made a good choice.
He’s very similar to our ML except his life has been their cultures version of hell: abandoned by his family in multiple ways, homeless, looked down upon, watching those he did care about die unfairly and having to fight for every scrap of power he has. He’s not a good guy. He does many evil things. But he’s not evil either. His biggest flaw is he pursues power at the expense of his own heart and conscience. And he pays for it.
His parents are super rich and spoil him. They get frustrated with his 8 year old prankster type antics but adore…
He's confident in certain areas already. Like gaming. Just not with LY’s feelings cause he hates her crying. Once he starts going to school he’ll gain confidence there. Give it like 2-4 more episodes and throughout those episodes you’ll see different areas he’s already good in. He’s not going to show as consistently capable until after ep 13-16. Also he’s not really easy to persuade now. Its just he is clever and more capable than most people of seeing the big picture even when it goes against what he personally wants. Like marrying LY cause he realized how dangerous for his family it would be if he didnt.

He works his way up from lowest level to highest level official. He does take on the responsibility of defending an entire city like a general. He’s smart, dynamic and very perceptive. So he does really well as a politician but can also fight when needed.

Their relationship is very slow burn. Mutual liking begins fairly early (before ep 10) but builds really slowly. They were forced to marry each other. The part that makes their relationship great is they always communicate very well about where they are at. That being said, they arent the kind of couple that says I love you. Instead their actions and other statements of support communicate the feelings. The first moment our ML gets a little recognition is when he starts attending school properly. But it still takes till much later episodes for anyone beyond his wife to believe he’s more than a carefree rich dude. A good bench mark for their relationship progress would be the end of the first arc in episodes 15-18. They know they are it for each other. Episode 27 they kiss for the first time. This is because they very much follow the route of inexperienced friends to lovers. Another delay is she also has a health issue after some bad stuff they went through in the teen episodes that makes it risky to her life for them to consummate and get pregnant too soon.
It was the late Emperor. Liang used to be a highly placed minister, but fell from power and decided to rebel.…
Yeah. Basically before they got demoted uncle was trying to create a stronger tie to the royal family to protect his position. It would be harder for the emperor to suspect or demote his daughter’s uncle by marriage.
