Wow! A well-balanced show. It's comedy + mystery + crime + family + neighbourhood + action + spy rolled into one. Not easy to balance but they did well in the first two episodes.

I understand it as well as a fellow Pacific-Asian (not Asian-Pacific which includes Oceania), forgiveness and familial bonds trumps.
In cultures like ours, forgiveness and reconciliation is a core thing. A family is considered the smallest unit of society and thus the very foundation a Nation is. If the family is weak, the Nation as well.
And so, if everyone can forgive each other and show that reconciliation is possible and we all aim for that, then the family unit is strong which in turn makes the Nation solid and resilient no matter what typhoon or earthquake it goes through.
In most other cultures, especially non-Asian, it's totally different. They value different things. Their way of thinking is different. Rights, revenge, getting even, cutting-off completely, are usually far more important than forgiveness and reconciliation and family and Nation.
That said, it wasn't about how the life the FL and her mother wint through is far worse than what her father had to go through, it is about how they all made mistakes and learned to forgive each other and reconcile their differences.
It isn't about cutting-off the woman who, for lack of a definitive term, "stole" her father and sired a son just because she was a total biatch to the FL and removed a key chapter in her father's memoire, rather it is about forgiveness and reconciliation. They met and started on the wrong foot because of decisions and circumstances that everyone made, and yet they met halfway, forgrve each other, and reconciled.
If you want, it was a win-win-win for all of them.
- She recovered her dignity. - She and her father reconciled. - The Yuuki family recovered their dignity as well. - Her half-brother is finally getting closer to their father. - Their father is finally no longer a "monster" who prioritized his reputation over his family. - The FL, and step mom, joined forces to change the status of women in Japanese culture. After all, that was also the original goal of her step mom, she just lost her way.
And many more.
I am NOT saying that your concerns are not valid. I am NOT saying that this approach is applicable at all times (no, it is not, especially if the issue was a crime (like rape or murder)). But for this particular dynamic, it all comes down to culture. To forgiveness and reconciliation. To family. And to Nation.

Another good thing, for weekly shows which were affected, it gives the entire cast and staff a much needed break. They usually film 1–2 weeks ahead. Now they have 1 weekly episode free time they can use later since they'll be 3 weeks ahead in filming if they don't use it.
