I'm kinda like you. I usually prefer thrillers because I've seen too many "bad" horror movies. I'm not someone who likes horror strictly for the gore, so slasher horror isn't my idea of a great film. It's the story behind the gore and slashing that matters. However I do love slasher movies which don't take themselves too seriously as a form of comedy.
Yeah Lan Ling, I'm surprised myself. I'm actually making time for it now while I actually should be doing other things. It's a entertaining watch. It's fairly romance orientated but I don't know how big your dislike of romance is in this imperial, historical, slightly wuxia flavored setting. :P It looks beautiful though. I like the action in there. There are only a few things bothering me about decisions people made but I'm willing to overlook it since it's rather fast paced. But tomorrow I'm staying away form my computer. LOL

I just read up on Jikou Keisatsu I'll definitely watch it someday :P. Especially after I read some great directors and screenwriters worked on it plus huge list of guest roles. The thing is I usually like slightly darker stuff plus I'm picky with humor in drama's it doesn't really appeal to me so I usually don't start watching them without some extra incentive or some recommendation. ;) So thanks.

I added Atami no Sousakan to y ptw list for now and just finished Tenten which I enjoyed quite a lot. I like it the best of the 3 Satoshi movies I saw. After the credits you see 3 coworkers of Fukuhara 's wife sniffing the crown of their heads with a rubber tube. LOL
And Kishibe Ittoku's random guest appearance. Hehe.

I didn't think it was too confusing but I was waiting for a final conclusion or pun which didn't happen in the end. LOL. I liked watching it though, great how faces changed basically in front of my eyes. At one point I was rewinding to see if I was going crazy. LOL I watched Kame wa igai to hayaku oyogu by Satoshi Mike . And it left me with the same....useless feeling afterwards. Like I was expecting more. It's like I can't quite settle for it just being a strange sense of humor. I feel like I'm missing something, or maybe his style is just not for me. ;) I still want to watch Tenten and Insutanto Numa, or do you have any other recommendations? For now I think I can connect more with Takashi Miike's work or even Kudo Kankuro although I haven't seen much of his work. But I'll refrain from giving any final opinions until I've seen more. ;)

Hmm difficult I think my favorite would be Damo but I don't know if it's the best. It's a special one for me. Then there's some I really enjoyed watching Cruel City, Lovers, Que Sera, Sera, Sorry I Love You, Time Between Dog and Wolf. Scent of a woman, Shining Inheritance. All a bit angsty though, seems that's what I like in Korean drama's LOL. As for romantic comedy I really enjoyed My Name is Kim Sam Soon. I loved Kim Sun Ah's character.
Oh and I loved A Tree With Deep Roots. The acting is great, you need to stick with this one if you decide to watch it I never thought I would find it so interesting.
Don't force yourself though. There's plenty J-Drama's out there plus movies are always a good choice. ;) I tried watching the conjuring last night but I was in the company of people who already watched it. :(
Right now I'm home alone but I'm planning on some Lan Ling. ;)

Hi!
I finished Crying Out Love and was basically left torn. It was such a moving drama for me. Not because of Aki's death but because of Saku's pain and how he wasn't able to let go. I know how it was supposed to be an uplifting ending and how he was able to finally move on but when I think back I can't help thinking about people in my own life who left too soon. The most striking for me was how they conveyed being stuck in the feeling where you wake up in a world without your loved ones and how you sometimes very briefly need a reminder of that. LOL Heavy stuff.
Oh and I saw you watched Ore, Ore a couple of days ago. I did the same. I was waiting for it to be subbed so curious as what to expect. What did you think of it?

I'm planning to watch Prince of Lan Ling next. It'll be good to put it on my Chinese drama count plus I'm in the mood for something historical. I tried the first ep of My Bratty Princess but it was just a bit too much over the top for my mood this morning. I just tried the first ep of Lan Ling and it works for me.

No worries for being late. I'm rather caught up in work and rl atm as well as I mentioned. My current project will be over in a couple of work days so life will be less busy then. But my bf returned from his work as well. He works at drilling platforms so he's on and off a few weeks at the time. So I'll be spending some time with him the next 2 weeks. So drama watching is a bit on a low profile. But usually I manage to catch up when he's away and I'm not working on anything. LOL
I'd say Audition is a thriller with some disturbing images. I wouldn't call it horror but it's not for the faint of heart. What is it what you don't like about horror?

I saw you finished Densha Otoko. How did you like it? I Finished Crying out Love, in the Center of the World the J-Drama recently and it really moved me. It tore me apart actually. LOL Not so much because of the girl dying but he sorrow the guy went through and the feeling of losing a loved one and dealing with that really hit home. Although it actually is a healing drama on how to deal with it and finally moving on.
Right now my drama watching is on a low profile, but I'm thinking about watching Prince of Lan Ling. I the historical drama itch acting up again plus I haven't watched too many Chinese drama's yet. What are your plans?

Hi,
Yes busy times for me atm. Although only a couple of days left before I finish my current project for work. But my bf also returned from his drilling platform so I'm spending time with him since he'll be off again in 2 weeks. Also I really love autumn and I have a go so I try to go for walks in forest while the leaves are still changing colors.
Wonderful that you managed to go to the film festival must have been great to attend the Q and A!

Hi, I've been buried in work again this week. I expect I won't be in drama land for at least next week. Except for today that is. :P So I finally finished Audition today and I foundit really intriguing but while watching it I was bored. Still I kept watching and loved how the build up in the film played out. I'm on the fence about this one, maybe I expected more or I expected to be on the edge of my seat more.
Have you seen anything good lately. Have you picked up a drama again?

Yeah I've been busy this last week again. I expect I wont be able to watch a lot next week as well. The thing is I tend to marathon drama's but when I have a project at work I need to discipline myself to focus on work. What works for me is to stay away from drama completely since I hardly ever am able to just watch one episode. :P So today I have some time off but even tomorrow I'm spending on work.
You're right haven't seen the original. I should try and find it though. I saw you watched Ran! It was my first Japanese movie! I watched Audition today and although it was good it wasn't my taste. Characters didn't grab me and I found it slow while I usually can handle slow. I think I just wasn't in the mood or had my hopes up too high.

I found Subs on Asiatorrents when you search for "The Samurai That Night" it says no subs in the title but they've added them. I haven't seen the entire movie yet, but I checked the subs and they seemed fine.
I watched Ai to Makoto for Satoshi and I expected a similar kind of weirdness but in the end I liked Milocrorze much better. I hope you will too.
Oh if your list updates are correct you saw some great movies. Memories and Harakiri! Hope you enjoyed them, I loved em both.

Nope no Ghost episodes yet. I did have the pleasure to see Yamada act as a cat though. LOL
And yes Crying.. has Yamada in it. So I'm having a double dose of Yamada. I really love this guys acting, I also have a movie lined up with him in it. Samurai of the Night, not actually a Samurai movie but I've seen trailers and his acting seems really interesting in it. Plus I've been waiting for subs on Ushijima the Loan Shark another Yamada movie.
Oh and have you seen Milocrorze - A Love Story? It's a totally weird Japanese movie but since I'm a fan of those I really liked it. I think it's certainly worth a watch if you're a Yamada fan and can handle an unconventional movie. Oh and it has a pretty cool Samurai fight scene.
Here's a trailer if you're interested.

I've seen a few more movies in the genre than I did drama's. Like Reign Of Assassins, House of the flying daggers etc. but I haven't seen a lot.
Yup watching Yuusha. I actually wanted to watch something light and I really enjoyed the first season. I loved the first eps again. Strange if I didn't since it's basically the same as the first season. Then I got reminded about Crying Out Love.. which I also wanted to watch but never got around to due to reviews on how it's such a sad drama. So now I'm watching those two together Yuusha is there for the comical relief when things get too sad. LOL

About Kanda do you think Mr. Suzuki, after hearing Kanda knew he switched the girls, cried because he regretted this necessary sacrifice. And do you possibly know if the movie picks up on this or will it just be left as a semi-open ending? Which is as you said also very fitting.

Ah that reminds me I've yet to see Audition. I'll watch it tomorrow I think. I won't be needing my phone and a blanket? ;) I love Miike's movies or at least the ones I saw. They can be a bit out there but I can appreciate that usually. ;) Plus he directed my favorite samurai movie so far, 13 Assassins.
And yes a 10 I think it deserves it for how they handled the theme's and the overall acting. I usually don't like drama's with obvious lessons but everything was done without passing judgment and it actually got me thinking. I think it's great in it's genre.

For Chinese or HK drama's I only saw The Vigilantes in Masks, Holy Pearl, Palace: The Lock Heart Jade and Scarlet Heart. I liked them all with Scarlet Heart being one of my favorites. Not much wuxia in there though. I guess why I didn't pick up more is because I find them a bit over the top a bit like Taiwanese drama's. But another reason is that I've just not come in contact with many. I like drama's in historical setting and I love action. I can really appreciate Wuxia movies although I'm not so much in it for the fighting alone but I love the mix of often, beautiful scene's, setting in ancient times and sometimes fantasy. This mix makes the movies a really fun watch for me. I will try your rec. If you have any more good Honk Kong or Chinese recs let me know. I won't be watching many Korean drama's in the near future and it's nice to have a change of pace form the Japanese ones.
