Just like that the journey is over and what a journey it was. This was one of my most anticipated dramas this year and despite it's flaws it didn't disappoint me. It's visually stunning with gorgeous costumes and beautiful cinematography. The OST is moving and memorable. The fight scenes are elegant and well executed. But above all else, we have a team of endearing and interesting main characters we can root for to overcome all obstacles thrown their way.
You will either love or dislike this drama, because like all dramas out there it has its flaws. Whether you can ignore the flaws and enjoy the drama is subjective.
The biggest flaws in this drama for me were the lack of explanation regarding some important details as well as some illogical choices regarding the plot.
Did those flaws ruin the drama for me? No, not at all. It left me with questions and a head shake here and there, but overall I still enjoyed this drama immensely.
lolol to me it’s a plot hole. I still don’t understand why he didn’t go after Fei for hurting his ShenNv…
I'm not sure what the relevance of this explanation is to what I was talking about as this also happened much later. What we're talking about above is what happened right after Shen Nv was infected. To prolong her life he went on a killing spree, killing innocent demons. He didn't want to destroy anything. She found out he was killing demons instead of protecting them, so she was trying to bind him but was too weak. He continued with his crimes and to stop him from making more mistakes for her sake, she killed herself, because she was the source of his wrongdoings.
What we're talking about is the fact that if he went on a killing spree for her, logically the first one he should have killed would've been Fei.
We all understand the story. Just pointing out a logical inconsistency.
The only one I felt sorry for was his wife, his unborn child, WenXiao’s dad, WenXiao and the co-worker. This…
They were indeed the innocents in this and died because of his bad and selfish choices.
I think Wen Xiao was chosen because she lost her father to a demon, but still wasn't prejudiced against them. Hence showing that her heart is kind and pure. It's similar to how Zhu Yan saw a human hurting demons, but still chose to believe that not all humans are that horrible and vicious. His heart is also very kind. That's one of the biggest similarities between them. It's even more evident when you see how others around them react to similar situations. Zhuo Yi Chen starts out very prejudiced against demons, because a demon killed his father and brother. Pei Si Jing is also the same, because of what happened with her brother. And so is Bai Jiu. It's their eventual interactions with Zhu Yan and him showing them that not all demons are evil that they turned around and changed their opinions. Li Lun went completely off the rails as well and started hating all humans.
I was fully prepared to at least feel a little sorry for Wen Zong Yu, even though he's a despicable human being. Turns out his hate for demons is completely misplaced. He blames Long Yu for killing his wife and child, but is failing to see that it was his fault to begin with. He tried to scam Long Yu so she would give up her scale while fully aware that it would kill her. What did he expect she would do when she found out? Thank him for playing her and willingly die?
I'm pretty late to give an answer and you probably received much more interesting points of view, considering…
I'm currently on episode 28 and I think it was episode 27 when I decided to stop overthinking.
I wholeheartedly agree that his specialty is characters and the bonds between those characters. He also has a talent for building worlds, but plot details tend to take a step back. It's all about which plot holes you can ignore and still enjoy the story. Some people will not be able to ignore them and drop the drama or hate it, but others will overlook them in favour of the multitude of positives about this drama.
I'd say I'm in the second group. I've become attached to the wonderful characters, so I'm ignoring the plot holes.
