This seems to be the popular opinion, omg. Thank you! :D

I think if it was role reversal Yichen was the one with startup and new business we all would have expected JX…
I think the problem here is when you've been together for 4 years and have been planning a life together (they were talking about getting a house together), you owe the person at least a little respect that you discuss your change of plans with them instead of literally shoving it down their throat.

However, if SYC had a problem with anything, he did not voice it. He acts supportive (when he clearly does not agree), did not get angry when she was unavailable (whether the reasons for it are valid or not, doesn't matter, any normal person would be angry which is understandable), like a puppy he keeps saying yes to everything without showing his disdain even once. Like if he's so hurt and salty, why do you not express it even once and come up with a break-up with a shitty excuse out of quite literally nowhere?!

I agree it is not wrong for him to aspire for care and love. Career or not, we all want that. Everyone craves warmth and care. So, I don't believe SYC having that mentality is wrong, to each its own. But if that is your mentality, OWN IT and EXPRESS IT. Did he once convey that to her before the break-up to try and see if she would understand his issues and maybe they resolve it together? He has just made up this image of JX that he believes would thrive without him, but I don't see him discussing that with her even once to understand how she feels. I'm not saying JX is all right in this break-up, she has made serious blunders as well by being absolutely insensitive, but that does not mean SYC is 100% correct. He has way too many imperfections himself, so no, I don't feel sad for either of them.

And lastly, it could be said the other way round as well, if you truly care for someone you would not put them in this situation to pick and choose when you can see they are literally trying to get back up on their feet after a huge blow (job loss for whatever reason). JX was so sad over the loss of pay and annual bonus and was trying to get back on her feet. Not just her, anyone would put in extra effort in their new work in such a situation. It's actually worse if he makes this about himself at such a point in her life that he expects her to find balance. It's not like she was not caring for all 4 years, this was a special circumstance. It came across as he had no confidence in the relationship and just wanted to tie her down, once that goes down the drain, he acts like a crybaby. So instead of considering what could have been done "when you truly care for someone", let's consider it from both sides.

Title As Beautiful as You Spoiler
Wait aren't Shao Yi Chen (SYC) and Ji Xing (JX) in a really stable relationship, SYC seems like a nice guy too.…
He's not a home wrecker, you don't have to worry. The romance between them would be very natural. He doesn't even try until (long) after their break up to which he had zero contribution.

I will not give any details to not spoil it for you. :)

That's what I thought. I'm a lawyer and my partner is an investment banker. We see this so much that her character seems too unreal to me because anything an investor where we live would do in such cases is ask for a seat or decision-making power or even introduce professional management because let's face it her management is not shown to be the best. That is why I wanted to know if the novel is any different because I really enjoy stories with a hint of women empowerment.

What I understand is that the novel focuses more on the love story than only the business aspects (which the show has had more of until now, the romance is yet to develop/is slowly developing). Many users have also suggested that the character is more developed in the show, so maybe, from the angle I'm seeking, it would not make much difference to read the novel.

her character is way more annoying in the novel !! han ting spoon fed her everything and the way he called her…
Hahaha, that's what the other user also mentioned that they liked the character more in the drama. So maybe, I should just stick to the drama. πŸ˜‹

Sorry, I will elaborate on what I mean (if you want) later maybe, I've already explained below.

This is not your random leadership position like a vice president of a vertical or a team lead that we can talk about management principles and learning on the job. This is a start-up (which when funded did not have a proper office and only 3 employees) that has a multi-billion dollar investment by a leading company/investor (an angel investor rather than a Series A funding tbh considering the stage of the investment). Of course, she needs to be a better leader and manager. Just because you lack experience is no excuse. A company CEO cannot ALWAYS rely on mentorship....

ALTHOUGH, the purpose here was not to focus on her character/strengths/weaknesses. I literally told that I'd not read the novel. Gave my understanding of the drama and asked if the novel was any different because I wanted to understand the FL's character from the novel.

So you think the JX is the drama is better than the one in the novel? Maybe then I should just stick to the drama. Thank you for your insights! ☺️

I'm not mixing it up. Which is why I did not take away from her technical know-how. I categorically said poor business acumen (which is the core of her role here).

Building connections and solving all issues for her are different things (purchase of a printer, speeding up of raw material - again solved by an outsider, making contacts - she is unable to meet anyone without his introduction, and it goes on - so I will not go back on what I said). Yes, he's to help her build connections, precisely why you seek external aid and investments, that's how business works but she can't even secure one contact on her own.

Anyway, like I said above, it is what it is. My only purpose here was to know more about her character in the novel so that I could decide if I wanted to read it or not. I don't want to get into a discussion of her character because that helps no one. I just hope she learns through this and we see a stronger JX at the end. Excited to see some growth! :D

I guess it's a difference of perception. In my understanding, other than the printer issue, she hasn't really managed anything on her own. Always someone else has helped her. Help is not the same as mentorship/guidance, she definitely gets way more!

But yes, I agree, he did not invest in the company based on feelings alone. Also, I'm not taking away from her calibre as a technical expert as well. However, as a management professional, I will not give props to her just because she has a brilliant technical background or because she's hardworking. :)

Anyway, I just wanted to know if there are any differences in her character in the novel because if yes, I wanted to give it a read to get to know a stronger lead, nothing else, as I love reading/watching powerful female leads. It's not like my complaining here is going to change her character in the show, so I see no point in that futile discussion. To each its own. :)

I'm not quite sure if I will like it.

I'm absolutely in love with the chemistry of this pair is why I'm even progressing with this show tbh. The story is beginning to get on my nerves because I absolutely hate watching women portrayed as stupid beings who can't achieve anything on their own without a man's help. Unluckily, from my takeaway, that description is Ji Xing spot on. Like, I'm literally pausing in between to calm down from the growing frustration and second-hand embarrassment at certain moments. πŸ™ˆ πŸ₯²

Agreed, but she also poked him on purpose because she knows both of them well. It's not like he started ranting on his own....

This comment cracks me up! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who can't tell some of the men apart, especially XYX…
At least you found it out on your own. I've been in the comments section since the beginning and I literally found out after I saw some comments. For the longest time I also thought HT's friend and LL's boyfriend were two different people! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I'm really curious because I've not read the novel, any insights would really help.

I find the FL to be quite unaccomplished, tbh. Like, she has the drive, maybe the knowledge but really poor business acumen throughout (for her to be a start-up head) and till now I've not seen her accomplish one thing on her own, unless someone helps her out. And it's not the kind of help where you seek strategic business support, it's literally a damsel in distress kind of support. I'm sure whatever HT does for her, he doesn't do for others which is pure corporate world, so understandable. Is that how her character is also in the novel? I'm really hoping it has just been dramatised here.

I was thinking between watching this, Be Melodramatic and Search: WWW, which all got something in common. But…
Of the three, I love Be Melodramatic the most. I have rewatched that show twice and I absolutely love it. I would classify all three as kinda slice of life though, probably why I liked all 3! :P

which is the entire argument being made above that romance is not the main plot, so I mean, I don't see any point in arguing

I was just pointing it out, I have no comments to make about PSJ or the dramas in contention here. Good day! :)

Hahahha, I'm a lawyer and my partner is an investment banker, this show has made so much sense to me.

Just one thing though, I feel like she was not trying to take advantage of the rich guy but it was her superior who set her up in that setting. She actually thinks of getting out of it before she actually does.

There's a kissing scene in Conjuring and a cute love story of our exorcists in the Conjuring series. By your logic, it would also be romance? πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
