Ok I already commented but after reading comments I have more thoughts. I think both Saint and Poom did well acting, especially Saint. He was not great in LBC but in WhyRU his acting was quite good, and it has only gotten better through his other series. I also think SaintPoom had great chemistry, nothing felt forced or unmatched.
Lastly, I see comments about Saint and his perceived reluctance to do BL roles. I don't understand this. WhyRU was 2020, if he wasn't ok with acting in a BL why would he randomly do another one 5 years later? Idol Factory is his own company, he's racking up production credits on some pretty popular series. He's also acting in plenty of popular non BL series either as a main or guest actor. He's clearly got options for work other than playing a main character in a BL if he didn't want to or wasn't comfortable with it.
We all know the BL industry in Thailand can be questionable, there are good companies, but some of those have a level of expectation/have gone heavily towards incorporating explicit NC into every series. So maybe he just didn't want to do BLs under another company, but now that he has his own and has more control over what is happening behind the scenes it's ok. In my opinion BL actors can get very typecast, fan and shipping culture can be very toxic and unsupportive of actors wanting to do things other than BL. I would imagine for Saint or any other BL actor it's a tough genre to be a part of, not because they don't want to do BL but because it can be hard to get out of, or hard to have a varied carreer when there is an entire group of "fans" that will turn on them if they don't live a ship and fan service the heck out of it.
I really enjoyed this series I'm sad it's over. The main pair was cute all the way through and they had good chemistry together. This show was a good example of not needing excessively explicit and frequent NC scenes to have a good, popular BL.
A lot of series rely on NC scenes because they need something to keep it going and keep viewers interested. In this series I didn't get that feeling, it felt like they could show love and romance without going too far, I never felt like it was missing anything. Yes, there were NC scenes but they were much milder than a lot of recent productions.
I don't know if I'm explaining myself very well here, but basically I'm really glad a really good series came out that didn't need to rely on NC scenes to be a good series. I enjoy a good steamy series *My Stubborn* but I'm also glad that not all BLs are following that trend.
This wasn't perfect, Earn was so, so, SO annoying, and I kept waiting for a KaewEarn GL subplot that just never happened. My only other issue was the highschool student love triangle subplot was pretty unnecessary, and even though Yo is like 20 having him go back and finish highschool just weirded me out a bit. If they needed that they should have made it going back to university, it was kind of weird seeing Jom helping him pick up his school uniform in the beginning and then date him, or highschool uniformed Yo picking up village cheif Jom on his bike to get him away from business owner Tee. That kind of threw me off. Otherwise I loved it and anticipate many rewatches.
Finally finished it. I feel like I shouldn't have liked it as much as I did. The story wasn't bad, even if there wasn't much of it, but I felt the character growth of P and Pan. Both of their acting performances improved from last season as well. Also, PJ was surprisingly likeable after the first half of the series, adorable puppy chasing after Plai!
But basically, it's an extended tourism ad featuring softcore porn. And we're all here for that! I can appreciate tourism ads but the lipstick and joystick product placement had me dying during that whole NC scene in episode 7. It's hard enough filming NC scenes I would imagine, how did they keep it together enough to finish!? That's professionalism right there.
I found the book last week in the discussions and I was honestly not crazy about it. I legit had to drop it and…
I read the book and I liked it as something seperate from the series. The series is way better, and if I compare the book it falls short, but I think I would have liked it more than I did if I had read it before the series came out.
I do like the time shift in the book better than the series, because Thada on Twitter is the best, and I'm hoping they will be able to bring that into the series 1999 style.
In the book it's emphasized that Armin is re-living his 20's as a 45 year old. He's said/thought multiple times that he feels 45, not like a young person. He's past the drama of youth, and is approaching his love with Thada with maturity that can look like disinterest or that he doesn't love as much as Thada loves, compared to Thada wanting to love out loud and lavishly. He knows Thada loves him because of his knowledge of TD from his first life. Book Armin is known he is loved almost from the start of their interactions, once he realizes Thada is TD and understands that TD must have been in love with him for 20+ years to do everything he did, he knows he doesn't have to make Thada love him, so he can just grow his feelings for Thada with confidence. Thada doesn't have this surety, he still thinks he has to try more do more for Armin to love him and keep loving him, so he's very over the top about it trying to show Armin it's love not just respect for his acting, or thankfulness for saving his life.
In the series Armin has some of that I'm actually 45 poise and maturity, but mostly, and especially about loving Thada, reset Armin is reliving his 20's as a 20 something year old, I like that they did that, otherwise Armin might have been pretty boring. Both Armin's took advantage of the reset to live happier lives and love Thada, but series Armin is livelier, like really re-living and experiencing his life again.
Loved this episode a lot and almost couldn't stop laughing. CEO Tada made me feel like I slept and woke up on…
I won't spoil anything but looks like you will enjoy Thada in the novel! I wish I waited to read it, but I'm too impatient to wait for a whole series to finish to know how it ends!
Thada is getting so cute with his over-the-top protection and displays of love for Armin. In the scene where Armin is "scolding" Thada they are both so adorable. Also really enjoying Wenai, just the right mix of humour, exasperation, and sternness for the situations he's always in because of Thada. But I love how he is totally shipping them and goes all in to do his jobs. I like when Wenai's english phrases come out when he's surprised too, makes his reactions funnier.
I liked the novel. I see it getting dragged in the comment section on here as "Wattpad" fiction, but it's actually a good BL read to me. And I liked the end, the bonus chapter stuff was endearing.
I loved this episode! We finally got Jun telling Sorn off. Both mains did a good job portraying the feelings they were going through, I'm glad it was well done. I finished the novel a few days ago and I was hoping they would do it well as I found the "break-up" sequence to be the best part of the novel, and was craving some real emotion after the every episode f*ck fest these two have had.
I wish they would have shown more of the confrontation/conversation between Sorn and Thai because in the novel it explains a bit more about why Sorn didn't want to fall for Jun and how that relates to Thai.
Side note, the beard! I was expecting it because it was in the novel how disheveled Sorn becomes while pining for Jun, but I was not expecting that! Did they just draw it on? Like use a make up sponge and some mascara or something and dab it on his face? Couldn't they have gotten a fake beard piece? That was so startling to see and so laughable.
I am enjoying watching this, I like it but I'm not fully sure what to think of it yet. The last couple eps have felt like a different series from when it started. It started with debt collector issues with Keen but Thun pays and it's now just gone. We have the whole Thun/Typhoon drama that again is just gone, I know Thun was emotionally healed by Keen and all, but poof there goes another storyline. The dad fell for a scam and lost his money but that was pretty much skipped over.
The drugs are back with Yut, and we have a politician (and they are usually corrupt), the sketchy boxing head guy, and the mystery phone guy from Ait's call. I think it's probably his sister's benefactor, because who just pays for a 2nd string boxer's sister to get top medical care after seeing it on a livestream?
We're only halfway through the series and I don't know how to explain that it feels like it's moving fast and slow at the same time and also like I'm watching more than one series and the characters happen to be the same.
Maybe I'm just so used to BL's with no plot that having a plot feels weird. But I'm here for the journey, and they do spicy very well, so there's always that!
What in the holy hot mess is this devolving into?? And seriously did they just use a r**e as a spicy scene??? So clearly Jon has feelings for Chain, but like that was r**e. So Jon's an ass, Chain is also looking like an ass, Sun is maybe an ass, and Nu has basically no personality. Got it. Great character development going on here. The girls are the best part in this BL. I won't even get into the ridiculously unnecessary side story about the highschoolers.
I know it's small company, the actors are new and/or inexperienced, but the acting is really starting to bother me. I try really hard not to put it on the actors because I know these company's are just trying to mass produce any BL for views without regard to things like story, character development, and acting ability. I wish companies would stop scooping up a bunch of newbies for cheap casting and putting them out before they're abilities are ready. It's a detriment to the series and the actors.
I am about to start ep2, I am looking for a spoiler from those who know the book. Does Thada/TD know about Amin re-living his life? And what happened in tne original life/timeline? If so when does he find out? Please mark it as a spoiler so no one comes for me in the comments asking for a spoiler!
What did I dislike most about this episode? Jun realizing Sorn doesn't like him/doesn't want to like him? Nope. It's Penny's perfect hair and makeup when she's in bed sick. It just looked so out of place.
You know what the best part about googling flatiron was? The AI generated response that explained it came from a family counselling website, specifically their January 2024 position of the month.
