I loved the female lead. BUT I found the ML a bit troublesome. He had a very paternalistic "I know best" attitude…
The thing is though, we have been shown that the ML has a "best friend" relationship with the 2FL. We have not really been shown the same in regards to her boyfriend. In fact we have only ever seen him be weirdly passive aggressive towards everyone, especially the ML even before he became suspicious.
I have just read the first 10 chapters of the original novel and I must say this is one of the few times where I feel the TV adaption is much better. Though the names of the characters from the drama & the novel were the same, nothing else about the characters (or the story) were the same.
I am not a huge fan of school dramas but I really like this one. I found both Main Characters sweet in their romance; even if it took until episode 4 for me to start warming up to the FL, but once I did, she slowly surpassed the ML as my favourite character in this.
I know a lot of people compare this unfavourably to "Put Your Head On My Shoulder", but I have to say, that though I like PYHOMS, I like this more.
This show was doing really well up til episode 20, then it just got really, really stupid and dragged out. The…
I am not going to disagree about the ML. Elsewhere I commented that he basically gaslit the FL into thinking she was in love with him. BUT, the FL's inner monologue MADE the character (and the drama). It was the most human and relatable thing in the show. And her exaggerating her worries in her mind and dwelling on them is a very human thing to do. And sure, she starts of very naive & passive, but by the end she has grown into a determined & strong-willed woman. The FL here is one of my favourite characters in a Chinese Drama, and though I am rather meh on the ML (and his weird overcoat fetish), and detest both the 2ML & the 2FL, this is still one of my favourite C-dramas purely because of the FL.
This can be considered as an average high school drama. The main actor just carried the whole drama. His performance…
I thoroughly disagree. The ML often spoke to the FL with sneering contempt (episode 10 especially highlights this). In this version the ML is less interested in stopping her suicide than in using manipulation, domination & even plain old passive aggressiveness to shape the FL into an easily controlled girlfriend. Maybe the FL would be less stiff if the ML actually showed genuine concern (and NO, sneering at her whilst saying "she must feel guilty because he did not eat because he was waiting for her" and "she must NOT treat him that way BECAUSE he cares for her" is not genuine concern.
there's a rape scene and it starts around the 35 minute mark of ep 22 and into the first 10 minutes of ep 23 by…
This one of the few times when rape was important plot point (it often is not). The issue with the rape though imo, is the weird friend who thought if he took the blame for the rape, the 2FL would agree to be his girlfriend. WTF!!!
I really love this drama, and both leads are wonderful. But it suffers from that classic issue prevalent with Taiwanese Dramas, a vaguely positive yet ultimately unsatisfying ending.
And can I say I really dislike how everyone had to baby the "Lin Xiao Long" character. The guy is a grown man. I disliked how everyone had to treat him like he was a child. That is on him for constantly behaving like a child, but also on his friends & co-workers who enabled & treated his behaviour as acceptable for a grown man.
The trouble is, that even "recommended"J-Dramas often pale in comparison to their Korean/Chinese/Taiwanese counterparts…
Thank you. Which Takane No Hana? I watched one of that name and it was the same issue, a series of vignettes.
The two best JDramas I have seen is the aforementioned "Perfect World" & the original Kimi wa Petto (sadly the remake was less about the FL finding agency in her life and more about a man finding a woman to leech off and be his housemaid).
I seriously wish people would stop writing off J dramas on the basis of one or a few bad dramas they watched.…
The trouble is, that even "recommended"J-Dramas often pale in comparison to their Korean/Chinese/Taiwanese counterparts in storytelling. For every "Perfect World" (which tells a wonderful connected story, with great characters), there seems to be 10 "Shanai Marriage Honey" (I like Shanai Marriage Honey) which feel more like they are exploring a concept instead of telling a complete story, thus making them feel like a series of vignettes. Then there are the "Hotaru no Hikari" or "Hana Yori Dango" type which have terrible characters (ffs in "Hotaru" the 2ML sexually assaults the FL whilst she is sleeping which leads to the FL mooning over him; and in "Hana Yori Dango" the ML sends goons to sexually assault the FL).
That is not to say JDramas are bad, just that they are stronger in a certain area whilst being weaker in other areas.
As someone who has had surgery and had to deal with surgeons for 6 months leading up to it, i would take someone like Park Shi On over someone like Kim Do Han any and every day of the week. Do Han is one of those surgeons who constantly talks down to people (common in surgeons). I can't not help grimacing at the lack of self awareness when he keeps suggesting he is a better doctor because he has people skills. He doesn't.
no worries. I am not attacking you, and I am most definitely not trying to change your opinion of the show. I am just saying what I discovered as it massively disappointed me. She only gets together with the male lead after "creepy & icky" dumps her.
I got to the episode where Wakaba starts dating Mr Shindo (when it’s already clear to everyone, including her,…
I just watched "Hotaru no Hikari". There is also a love triangle there and again the FL does not choose the ML until the end of the last episode after the creepy and icky 2ML dumps her. I do not consider the ML & FL getting together in the last 5 mins a happy ending at the best of times. And certainly not if they only get together because of other people.
Thanks for your comment, but it's basically wrong. She is mooning over and loving "creepy and icky" even well into the last episode. So much so that I just do not believe in the transition of her affection to the ML at the end of the episode.
I enjoyed 2nd season more, mostly because Makoto’s acting in the 1st season was the worst, really, i’m glad…
Well considering Makoto was a creepy and icky man who sexually assaults the female lead when she is sleeping (and when he barely knew her), it is good he is gone in season two.
Moon Chae Won? She was in recent drama Flower of Evil, it's really good. Other dramas of hers to be recommended…
No worries. It was not an attack. I think Moon Chae Won is a great actress who is often under-rated. I just think that even for fans of the genre "Innocent Man" is often frustrating and antagonizing towards it's viewers.

I would not really recommend "Innocent Man" to anyone except for "American Soap Opera Fans" or "Makjang Revenge KDrama fans". "Innocent Man" is a hard watch if you have never watched anything similar.
