Gongjiam Haunted Asylum has zero scares, no character development, there's no substance in it really. It's even…
I actually liked Gonjiam Haunted Asylum. It was not the best film I've ever watched but I liked seeing a Korean take on the FF genre. The special effects were iffy and the plot line very formulaic/predictable but it was a pleasant distraction nonetheless. I love FF, especially if it involves a ghost hunting team filming in a haunted location, so obviously I'm very biased. Grave Encounters is my favorite of the genre. Shudder made a good one recently- DeadTectives- which was surprisingly fun and not at all predictable.
I haven't seen the Bow so I'll have to check it out. I liked The Wailing.
I'm kind of hoping that the poor/naive/childish woman with the rich man scenario dies off. I'm so sick of seeing that over and over again. I loved Hana Yori Dango as a teenager. However, as an adult I really hate this trope. I just cannot relate to the females or their affection for the male leads who are oftentimes jerks. I'm not saying all females have to be strong or rich but can't they at least be a bit more normal/realistic? It's not like people are binary- rich or poor, smart or stupid, etc.
I would say definitely. It doesn't have a love confession or anything like that but they both admitted they love each other in a round-a-bout way and they walk holding hands at the end (after arguing and hitting each other lol). I think the ending suited their personalities- they are "hyenas" not lovebirds.
That's why it seems more like a movie than a drama in terms of quality. I really enjoyed Yanxi Palace.
I really like the relationship between the two male leads- SXR and CFT. It is based on a BL novel and the director is able to show the depth of their feelings for each other while still adhering to China's laws. It also shows how complicated life was during that time. CFT reminisces about how he is forced to live a life he doesn't want due to fate while SXR acts out a play based on a concubine who refuses to surrender to her fate. It shows how opera was kind of a metaphor for life and the operas shown in the drama are often related to realtime events happening in the drama.
In short, I really like it. SXR looks really beautiful as an opera singer. Even though it is a heavier drama, it has plenty of lighter scenes to balance out that heaviness so it is not overwhelming. I wish I had waited to start it because waiting is torture. ;P
Hi.I am here because I love opera and especially this type of opera.First : Is this novel available to read in…
I've searched all over but unfortunately the book doesn't seem to be translated. Maybe if the drama becomes popular, it will be? We can always hope. I've never seen this type of opera before but now I'm interested. Hopefully after the pandemic is over, I will be able to see a live performance. China is on my bucket list.
I think this affect me more than the untamed. It's more intimate... the way CFT looking at SXR. He always smile…
2 times- first in episode 1 during the performance. Then in episode 2 but the actual scene is not shown until episode 8; he gives him the ring after winning at mahjong; CFT actually puts the ring on SXR's finger that time.
It is interesting that for Japanese dramas, school dramas are so popular. At least half of these dramas are high school dramas. I wonder why? I haven't really noticed that trend with other countries like SK.
I think that if you are over thirty years old, like me, you can appreciate this drama more.
I went back to school for nursing in my late twenties. There were some people who were older and they definitely experienced some backlash about going to school later in life. I look young for my age so I got to escape the brunt of it.
The drama comparison articles are really refreshing - thanks to OAL and AMV for taking the time to write them…
I think you summed up my opinion on the dramas perfectly. I couldn't understand why the CN leads were attracted to each other whereas in MNJ it make perfect sense for the leads to be attracted to each other. I really wanted to watch CN but I ended up dropping it because I couldn't get into it.
What is up with the subbing on Croton's YT channel? Episode 2 is missing most of its subs but episode 3 is already partially subbed? It'd be fine if it looked like episode 2 was in the process of being completely subbed but it has been that way for almost 2 days now with no change. Lol. I guess I am just impatient.
