Yes, you're right: I demand a bit of a dreamlike atmosphere to fully enjoy a drama. While I love for characters to act in a believable, real way, I don't like to immerse myself in something which is the exact replica of what my neighbour experiences every day (or I, for that matter).
But it doesn't matter if we disagree in our taste, discussion should never be about that, lest be want our dialogues to be filled with irrelevant ohhh and ahhhh and yes! which serves no other purpose than filling an empty page.
We have discussed more about this drama while disagreeing than we would ever have done if in accord.
That's why me likes you too.
:D

By the by, episode 16 did me in, if the rest hadn't already. If they don't kill off everyone by the end, this drama will be on nr.1 in my favourites.

I think Secretary Eun has been in charge for too long. He's goodhearted enough, but most of all he got used to have the king rely on him and his good judgment and advice. I also believe that despite his love for Jae Ha's father and brother, he wasn't as enthusiastic as the king about the N/S reunification, and would have preferred for the status quo to stay the same. He then makes a huge, fatal mistake in revealing Jae Kang's vacation spot and from then on he's doomed to treason, because now he's not even serving a King he respects. I agree with you that he won't last long and will be sacrificed.
I like his character too, because it's very human and believable. As I see it, his sin has been... greed for authority.

It seems today we are badly timed: when you're here, I'm elsewhere and viceversa. ;)
To somehow calm my poor heart I'm now watching Queen Inhyun's Man, which is so different and refreshing a drama it makes me smile and giggle. I'm even ready to overlook its time-absurdities because those two are cute and I don't need to love them love them, I just need to like them and giggle (like a 15 year old no less). lol
Secret is a wonderful movie, I agree. I must have heard the piano duel 50 times.
By the way, I hope as a fan of Shining Inheritance you haven't been offended by my not so flattering review. It's not that I wanted to make fun of it, I just tried to keep it "light" because I frankly found more faults than good points in it, but I didn't want to simply bash it. It has its own charm, it's just not my cup of tea, I guess. :)

Violet, dear, I finally watched episode 16. And I'm not sure I'll sleep tonight. I know it sounds exaggerated, but it's like those characters were true friends in real life, so great a performance by all.
So, this time you won't have to read a novel, lol
Have you been well? :)

Hmm, it's all korean right now for me - for no particular reason. I'm watching King 2 Hearts and I'm totally in love with it; Queen Inhyun's man, which is very fresh and has great leads; Shining Inheritance... very cliché and very mushy, I don't even know why I'm still watching it, but, well, now I need to know how it ends, lol.

I'm going out again now, I won't be able to watch it until this evening. Don't ask me how I resisted.

I have been out most of the day yesterday and then had to finish a short essay for a pupil of mine, so I haven't watched anything! I'm still in the dark, but from what you write I guess I have to brace myself! Aigoo!!!

LOL, of course they will. After all, we only criticize things we like or envy, or those which are so similar to ourselves we hate to see our own flaws mirrored in them.
And you expressed very well the redundancy of the sentence let's agree to disagree. We can now wholeheartedly agree we will never use it between us, haha!
To reinforce this last, let me tell you that talking with you always gives me a good feeling. Possibly because we fly from one subject to the next with the elegance of butterflies.
Never be it said that I'm not poetic... :P:P

That's because talking to you, even when we disagree a little, is great. :D
Secret Garden is too long a discourse for me to be done here. If you ever have nothing better to do, go to my page on DC and read my blog entry. I have written a papyrus over there about my thoughts on the garden. lol
Otherwise, we may just agree to disagree (although I confess I hate this expression. It's the equivalent of: I have no arguments, let's leave it at that).

TRP=The Rooftop Prince, lol
K2H is, to me, the drama which captured my heart the most after secret garden (I know we don't fully agree on this one, which is fine). I love every single detail of it, from the general execution to the single characters, which we see growing up in front of our eyes.
I didn't really have a big problem with the american clichè because this drama is playing on cliches and prejudices from the very start. Although I understand your dislike of something that touches you directly, there's no real difference in my mind between depicting the americans as those who want to always win, the italians as the weak ones, the north koreans as uncivilized and the south koreans as shallow. This drama has had a little blow in store for everyone, bar none.
And although it may disturb the sensitivity of us viewer, it is an important as well as courageous plot element.

This said, I try to be objective whenever possible. You know I adore Hyun Bin, but I didn't like My Name is Kim Sam Soon at all. I almost cringe, thinking about it, and him in it.
I also believe there's a huge difference between loving a drama because it was the right moment for it, and judging it in terms of real quality. I refuse to give a 10 to a drama which is not well acted, edited and generally executed just because I liked it. Taste is one thing, intrinsic value another.
I realize we are talking drama here, so one may accuse me of being too serious on the subject. But the same could be said about every artistic expression. I may not like to look at a Caravaggio's painting, but I can't deny its value. Likewise, my niece's drawings are the cutest thing ever and I cherish them with all my heart, but I won't just rave about them as if they were some masterpieces.

I'm in total agreement with you, some dramas happen to come in the perfect place and time, like a master mind colour.
Also, the same clichè which disturbs me in a drama, can be funny in another, depending on many factors, not all of them easy to rationalize.
I also agree with you about 49 days, a drama I've come to slowly almost hate because none of the character spoke to me in the slightest.
I do believe a novel/movie/drama is made first and foremost of characters. I go as far as to say that plot is irrelevant to me. This is why I tried MgIAG many times and finally dropped it because I could relate to nobody.
As you know, I dropped TRP, at some point is was just a fatigue to me, but I may pick it up in future... when the colour's the right one in the right spot. ;)

Twinny dear, I'll be as frank as possible with you: that drama is... ridiculous, in my very humble opinion. The first episodes are very hard to go through, everybody's crying and Seun Gi's odious, the acting is telenovela like and the music is completely random. But once you get to episode 6 or 7, it becomes addictive and the love story is... nice, although a little draggy.
I obviously want to finish it, but it's not something I'll rate very high or rewatch. Forget Jae Ha, because you won't have anything like him here.
BUT, please keep in mind that I think MGIAG is a stupid drama too.
Do you like it? (Perhaps I should have asked before ranting, lol)
