idk what it is about ep 12 but you need to wait for some time to collect your thoughts before forming an opinion on it. i think a lot of us didn’t like the episode right when we watched it but as time went by it became clear that this episode was actually good. it wasn’t perfect but it delivered what it had to deliver…
we start with vegaspete banter in this episode which sets the stage for their dynamic. pete is the one who initiates the conversation. he is not being careful and he is not containing himself in front of vegas. it is also interesting that pete is reading a book about personality types and he's asking vegas all these questions like he wants to know more about him. for vegas, this is new because pete wants to know more about him without expecting anything in return. according to the book pete is reading, vegas is sensitive even though he looks scary on the outside. let's come back to this later when we discuss the love scene. vegas realizes that pete is finding things about him that he tries so hard to conceal so in a moment of confusion and fear of being found out, he kicks the book out of pete's hands. vegas has built walls around himself and he is afraid of anyone coming close to breaking those walls down and seeing what's inside and when pete is close to doing exactly that vegas reacts by showing anger which is the only emotion he allows himself to display. pete says that vegas 'needs love' which is literally what vegas has been craving for his entire life so he is understandably stunned and angry. it seems like pete reading a book about personalities is a metaphor for pete reading vegas like an open book. vegas says that 'a book like that doesn't suit a fool like you' to which pete says 'it's your book'.... it could be taken as vegas saying 'you are a fool if you start liking someone like me because just like the book you are reading you will never be able to understand me'.
now let us talk about THAT SCENE. i know yesterday i said that they completely ruined pete's character by making him console vegas but after having some time to think and also rewatching the entire episode, i noticed something. i noticed how much pete hesitated and struggled. i felt how frustrated pete was. he did not want to go to vegas at all but something inside him made him walk to where vegas was. he was taken aback by the love vegas had for his hedgehog. vegas caring for his hedgehog is a sign that someone like vegas who is brutal, violent and aggressive is also capable of loving someone. in fact, when he loves, he loves hard. pete notices that and he is someone who is very empathetic so he stays. do i still think it's a stupid decision on pete's part? yes but do i understand pete better this time around? also yes.
when pete says that he does not know why he didn't leave, he is not lying. he really doesn't know why he didn't leave. sometimes, our gut instinct is stronger than our logic. it has happened to me so many times, i have known that doing a particular thing is beneficial to me but i don't do it because i listen to my gut instinct. sometimes, we choose feelings over facts.
when talking about his hedgehog, vegas says 'and why do i have to feel so much about his now?' this suggests that vegas feels too much. he's someone who feels his emotions intensely. he is incapable of loving in moderation. he is someone who loves and hates people on an extreme level (i can relate with that actually) i'm gonna circle back around this again when i talk about the love scene.
in the whole conversation, we can see vegas is completely broken, shattered and vulnerable. he has nothing left to live for. he feels lonely and scared. the facade slowly comes off and all that remains is vegas and his true self. there is something comforting about pete that makes vegas shed all his layers off and confide in him,
NOW let's finally talk about the love scene. vegas is a sadist and pete is a masochist. that's it. byee...! just kidding. ok seriously this is the analysis of the love scene:
vegas is smart. that goes without saying. he realizes that pete is hiding his true self behind that innocent charm. there's something about pete that attracts him and he can see that pete is attracted to him too so he tests it. when vegas traces pete's neck and asks him what he likes, pete starts to lose his control. to avoid slipping and revealing his true nature, pete calls him a psycho. but vegas is able to decipher that pete is lying. at this point, pete wants vegas SO BAD but pete wishes that it was that easy for him. vegas says that it is no fun if vegas has to force him. vegas wants pete to make the first move. he wants pete to show him that he wants vegas. he wants pete to submit to him and it makes a lot of sense. vegas is all about control and domination, after all. congratulations vegas because what you wanted happened! pete kisses vegas and vegas smirks because he thinks that he has won. he has won another conquest like he always does.
vegas is sensitive during the love scene as suggested by pete in the beginning of the episode. he is gentle, caring, soft and vulnerable and that actually falls in line with his character. when nobody is watching, this is what vegas is actually like.
as for pete, he finally lets his true side show. what is his true side? well pete's truth is that he is attracted to someone he should not be attracted to. he likes the pain and he likes the highs and lows of being with vegas. he likes the thrill. when pete lets it out, he lets go of the sanity that he has been holding on to for years on end. vegas is not the only one who has been struggling, it's pete too and this is the point where pete liberates himself and submits to the darkness within him. it's an important moment for pete, he is finally able to be his true self without any fear of judgement. he knows that vegas would not judge him for being the way he is. in fact, vegas would like him for the things others might reprimand him for.
when pete smiles at vegas, pete realizes that it's not pete who fell into his trap. it is vegas who fell into pete's trap. pete looks ecstatic and relieved whereas vegas looks scared. at this point, vegas realizes that pete has been pulling the strings and by making pete reveal his true self, he has created someone who is a force to be reckoned with and oh also pete is only physically attracted to vegas (FOR NOW) while vegas is starting to fall in love with him already. remember when vegas said 'and why do i have to feel so much about this now?' when his hedgehog died? it's a foreshadowing that he is gonna fall for pete HARD because that's just the kind of person he is while it's gonna take more time for pete to fall in love with him.
After getting some sleep and reading the thoughts of others , I re-watched the VP scenes in a different light.…
i think vegas is the only one rn who has real feelings for pete which scares him. pete is being more practical and also kind of tricking vegas but he will develop feelings for vegas soon
honestly, this episode wasn't perfect but a lot of you guys are being hateful for no reason and it is getting very annoying. like we get it you hate kp but it's getting a bit repetitive and boring to hear the same things again and again.
