i was gonna say liu yan doesn't make for a very good villain the actor's eyes are too kind, but i suppose he's more of a frenemy at this point and we're yet to meet the true main villain

remember BOY was written first so things aren't gonna match up perfectly, and no matter how strong these guys are in their own story (and its appropriate bc its their story), she's still a whole sword deity

i don't like this faux fl role for peng xr she isn't some newbie that debuted yesterday, but sigh a girl's gotta eat. and hopefully this catapults her upwards

its hilarious to me that chang he isn't misunderstood, he's kinda exactly who people think he is. so when someone runs into him and they're like oh its on site i can't even defend him 😭

aww weren't the xiao ruofeng actor and his guardian azure dragon actress like a couple in yin tao's listening snow tower? seeing them together onscreen gave me mad nostalgia. i adored that messy drama

when changhe drew his knife against xiao ruofeng i went😐you tryna fight mr li's 7th disciple??! 😐lets calm down.

unlike a lot of the younger characters in this universe who wanna be strong for fame/martial spirit, etc. su muyu deeply understands strength, and how to use it to carve out his own reality. this is why vision is so important, imagine if he didn't have a clear idea of who he wants to be

she wasn't demoted in the last ep, the emperor only mentioned he had already demoted her and everyone referred to her as a consort throughout the entire drama, so the demotion happened before the drama begun. if she had a deep hidden network they never showed us, all we know is that she hid behind the ml and fl to do her bad deeds bc she wasn't strong enough to do them herself openly

consort jing was a deposed empress. wan, at the height of her rule was more powerful than her. fl, who schemed successfully against wan and her powerful family from ep 1-23 suddenly couldn't do anything about jing and the new one.

ml bent over backwards for jing, compromised himself badly and got his loyal supporter killed to help the fl with her half assed revenge plan, this was someone the whole harem feared in ep 1, someone who was powerful enough to be this same jing's secret protector at the start.
made no sense

this didn't really make a whole lot of sense overall i can't even be bothered to leave a review.
the revenge part was straight forward, but after like ep 23 everything fell apart, too many inconsistencies to mention.
no romance fl didn't like either men
i'll give it 5/10 for the nostalgia, and the eps are very short too so its a light watch eitherway

at the start ml is strong and smart, formidable enough to go toe to toe with the most powerful consort, by the middle of the drama he's the weakest and stupidest in the entire story, bowing and scraping to everyone and just utterly muddleheaded. the fl too, once she got her revenge her brain stopped working & she decided to lay down and let other people torture her to death

she has to be the most disrespected empress dowager ever, all the men treat her like she's some servant, or a teenage girl. speaking of, why does she act like a giddy teenager? spiritually she's a woman who just had a difficult birth (even if she forgot), physically she's a stately monarch, there's no room between those two things for whatever the actress is doing. there are many more illogical things but this one really gets my goat

this drama had some budget you can tell by the wigs (not the fls!) and the costumes. hm or maybe they just found a really talented up and coming hairdresser
btw its totally hilarious that literally two day old baby is being tutored, when the ml gave him the first lesson and the baby slept off 💀
