I started to wonder about the full version of the script."comparative post of youth of may’s script and lee…
Yup that "look back" scene. Writer Lee Kang even selected it as one of his favourite scenes because he was so moved and impressed by how lee dohyun elevated that scene beyond his writing and original script.
I also just read post drama interview with the director and he mentioned that "In the case of Lee Do Hyun, he was really familiar with his role of Hee Tae. He went into even more depth than me or the scriptwriter. Sometimes, I couldn’t answer Do Hyun’s questions. He understood Hee Tae to that extent.” (translation by soompi).
I am sure both dohyun and minsi did a lot of improvisations to breathe life and depth into their characters.
Hey ;d , anyone who already watched drama can spoil what about love triangle /square which i hate to the bones…
dont worry .there's no love triangle or square here. The ML and SFL kinda have that arranged marriage situation going on but SFL does not have any feelings for ML. SML did have some sort of feelings for FL but quickly gave up when he knew she liked the ML.
Also once the uprising approaching, it becomes life and death matter. The conflicts totally shifted .
Can someone tell me if the drama received any kind of backlash in south korea by the way it portrays the Gwangju…
As far as I know based on translated articles +theqoo posts i saw on twitter , it actually received favourable reviews from koreans because they told the story through narrative of ordinary people/youth that lived during the that time whilst being respectful and careful towards the historical context. You can see they didn't dwell deep into specific events and political aspects, but just enough to remind locals of their dark history. The writer said Myung Hee represents the lost lives of Gwangju people whilst Hee Tae represents the survivors of Gwangju uprising who may be grieving still losing their loved ones yet strive and swim hard to live against the tide.
So he doesn't know that she's dead? I mean she was so much in love with him so why wouldnt she show up in front…
I assume he actually knew she's already dead after some time . Thats why he repeatedly try to kill himself. But having her physical skeleton just sort of gave him the proper closure i guess.
I can't forget the scene where MYung Hee died. She was breathing, she could see the stars. On the cold ground,…
I read from twitter that subber made a mistake in translation for that part since the words sounded similar. She didn't say "i can see the stars". She was actually saying "grasshoppers/crickets" ( flashback to when he told her about liking the month of May bcs grasshoppers/crickets helped to mask his bad singing) . You could hear the crickets so loudly in the background when she murmured her last words. Thats why his serenade was playing bcs she was reminded of him .
It made everything so much painful and poetic. Kinda dissapointed that the subber wasn't careful enough. It was such a pivotal scene.
the saddest part about Myung Hee's death is that Hee Tae couldn't even hold her in her final moments. She died…
Righttt it was really sad but extremely realistic. That was probably the reality for many people who cant still find their loved ones who probably experienced their last moments like she did .
That ending was so fitting with the backdrop. The letters written by both Hee Tae and Myung Hee for each other were like echoing messages from all gwangju ordinary people that still suffer till this day due to that painful month. That part hits me the hardest
I was about to say, I hope I can see both MH and HT in their medical profession doing something together, and…
Yup I also think the same. Myung Hee and Hee Tae will spend of majority of the remaining 4 episodes inside the hospital treating injured citizens and victims . Some of them would include characters/people that they knew and closed with. I believe it will focus on the emotional and internal struggles rather than the uprising itself. So they might survive this this.
p.s : Lee Dohyun was spotted filming in hospital frequently so that could be a major hint.
Hee Tae is making it out alive and he's the one who jumped off at the train tracks in the beginning. He will probably…
i am not positive about Hee Tae surviving the uprising but i think Myeong Hee will. The pastor telling her that they will be another door opened for her made me think she would make it out alive.
Ahh the preview. May 18th is here. Hee Tae finally has to confront his trauma and values. He has been pretty indifference…
i am not sure i am ready to see Kyungsoo and Hee Tae reunion. They had been longing for each other since epi 1 and they finally get to meet but in the worst way possible .
It's the turning point for gwangju as well as our main characters. I am glad Hee Tae and Myung Hee reconciled and confirmed each other feelings before the uprising takes places. I dont know if i can stomach double heartbreak knowing how horrible the uprising was . Also Hee Tae telling Sooryeon he didn't blame her and unintentionally helped her to realize whats worth fighting for (by introducing her to Seok Chul ) is something i didnt expect but really appreciate.
That much needed hug between Myung Hee and Hee Tae healed the pains from epi 7. They were so miserable without each other. Myung Hee especially. The way she shed tears during the kiss was just beautiful.

There was a blog that covered and analyzed the episodes (from an international viewer who always had an immense interest in Gwangju uprising so maybe you can check that out?https://embracingfiction.wordpress.com/2021/06/09/kr-youth-of-may/ ) .
