Is there any comedic elements in this at all? Not a huge fan of melodramas but want to watch lee do hyun!
so far, there were actually considerable amount of comedic moments in the first half for a drama tagged as melodrama. Lee Do Hyun's character is outgoing and witty so it wasn't all that depressing for me personally (from a perspective of someone who enjoys melodrama) . But keep in mind the setting is Gwangju 1980 ( specifically May 1980) and that was not an easy time for South Korea. So it's just not possible to be happy all the times.
Depending on your preference. As a sucker for classic/period romance , I love it so much. Despite having melodrama tag, it's actually quite fast paced ( maybe bcs its 12 episodes only) . It also contains considerable amount of humors so it wasn't all that depressing ( Altho it probably will in the second half due to the historical setting)
The chemistry and actings of all characters are top-notch so thats a plus point.

he's actually a senior in the industry. He had more years of experience in acting that all the leads. He debuted in 2014. Explained why his acting is so great here.
Unless myung hee going to Germany comes into the plot as something very significant then this is all very dumb…
They emphasized it many times. They wanted to live without regrets. Hee Tae even mentioned it a couple of times that it doesn't matter to him he's ready to get hurt once she leaves.
Hee Tae opened up about how he has never been truly happy all his life. Even for a couple of weeks, he really wanted this. To feel happy for once. Also it's not like Myeong Hee hadn't tried to suppress her feelings. She tried but she ended up hurting so she made the courageous choice and chose him and her happiness. Even if it's momentary.
They planned to date secretly anyway. It just so happened that so many ppl witnessed them leavinv the engagement party holding hands on the spur of the moment and causing this havoc.
Also Hee Tae's father doesn't really care if Hee Tae dates Myeong Hee secretly. He knew from day 1 about Hee Tae having feelings for Myeong Hee . I remember he told Hee Tae it's okay to meet another woman even if he already married. It doesn't matter to him what Hee Tae does as long as he doesn't hinder his plans and his goal is met.
At the end of the day, they are just two young and immature people who are in love , made impulsive decisions based on their feelings and now have to face the consequences. It's their journey and their painful story and we are here for it. It may not even end well for them but we root for them regardless .
I love the leads' chemistry so much. The first scene in epi 6 when Myeong Hee slowly takes off Hee Ta's tie gave me tickles more than the kiss scene tbh The look they gave each other....
Can we talk about how amazing all the actors are. From the leads all the way to the supporting characters ( Kyung Soo, Jin Ah and the baby brothers). They really elevated every scenes .Suprised to see most of them are rookie actors with minimal prior works.
I applaud the casting director for casting rising and rookie actors for this drama bcs now i have a lot more potential actors and actresses that i can look forward to.

He totally can. Just like in sweet home. And in episode 5 when he was acting all cold and angry bcs if Myeong Hee, he scared me a bit. He looks intimidating
Myeong Hee X Hee Tae X Myeong Soo X Jung Tae scenes were so wholesome. I am glad Jung Tae finally opened up to Hee Tae why he's so bitter towards him. Their banters were so adorable. They warmed my heart since I was so anxious the whole time watchingg this episode.
It's so clear to me that Soo Ryun will start liking Hee Tae. Usually, these Second Female Leads without any love…
I dont think she will ( she seems passionate for the democratic cause that she doesn't struck me as someone that'd be interested in finding love) but I do believe that their friendship will stand a test for sure one way or another
Also since SML likes the FL, i'd be too lame if they decide to make the SFL falls for the ML as well.

Altho i agree their dialogues together could've been better. i would love for them to have more hearty conversation ( like in epi 4 for instance when he finally opened up about his trauma to her) but i guess we'll get more of that as the angst starts.
