I give series the benefit of the doubt with my first impression reviews. Yes, I can see how people would give up after episode 1.

I re-watched the episode and it still doesn't make sense to me how Khem had Wela's phone number. Japan said Khem was acting like a child who pulls pigtails of the girl he likes (something along those lines) but nowhere do we see that Khem had gotten Wela's phone number from Wela or anyone else. If you do find timing please let me know. It's not a huge deal, but the writers could have either shown how Khem had Wela's phone number or just left that phone thing out altogether.

yes, that is the character. I don't think he deserved what he got and I understand that life isn't fair, it's punishment for another character but I still don't like it

oh yeah that sounds familiar, it's still strange though to read something and not double check or visit the grave site or anything...and yeah they didn't give a reason why Mawin didn't contact him

I know what you mean. I think just some indication like a short line about changing or a brief transition scene to show time passing would have been useful. If characters are wearing 1 set of clothes and then instantly are wearing different clothes it feels like continuity errors/choppy editing. Maybe this was a 1 time thing and if so I'll remove it from my final review.

I will agree to disagree with you. Jiang Chi purposefully withheld (omitted) key information from Gu Bu. That information was extremely important for Gu Bu's happiness/not being nervous. It might not have bothered Gu Bu enough for him to request an apology but it still didn't sit right with me. Especially because Jiang Chi had discussed the importance of communication previously. I found this article about lying by omission https://psychcentral.com/health/lying-by-omission#what-is-it Jiang Chi purposefully left out that the sister had told him the truth so that Gu Bu incorrectly believed that Jiang Chi did not know about Gu Bu's ability. The article states (and I believe) that a lie isn't defined by the level of harm it causes, a lie is simply an intentionally dishonest assertion (or omitting key information in lying by omission), no matter how minor it may seem. The article also says that, when it comes to intentionally leaving out details, there’s no clear line where a statement crosses over into the realm of lying by omission. So some people would say Jiang Chi lied by omission and others might not, it's based on a viewer's life experiences, perspectives, etc.

Different series work for different people which is totally fine. This series didn't work for me for the reasons I explained in my review. I'm not going to respond in the comments but if I were to correct a few things:
1. I've made $75 in 3 years as a BL content creator and I've spent thousands of hours making videos (each 5 minute video takes about 15 hours to make, I've made 94 longer videos and 170 shorts)
2. I generally don't engage in the MDL comment section because I don't want to yuck on people's yums there
3. I watched the whole series so I could write a complete review

very welcome, a tip I heard recently is that WeTV and iQIYI sometimes first air the series with machine translated subtitles but if you wait a week they seem to go in and edit them, I'm going to wait a week to watch episode 2 of this and see if the subtitles are better

as I wrote, it really could go lower but the black nail polish had a big effect on me lol - I also might skew higher than other reviewers, almost nothing is a 10 but I don't think I've ever rated something lower than a 3

Yes, there was real potential here but it just didn't deliver. Difficult to say if it was the fault of the screenwriter, director, editor or some combo of all, but I rarely blame actors and hope to see them in something else.

It's pretty confusing at the end as well/open to interpretation, but I enjoyed it overall. It has some more serious parts but also sweet parts too.

There have been series that got better as they went on so I'm hoping for that. And I'm excited for the year of Vampire BL :)

Your comment definitely felt like you were attacking my review/me. I don't get the same messaging that you do that queer media has more expectations of/representation of safer sex than straight media but we have likely watched different things from different countries. I agree with you that I don't think queer media should have a higher expectation than non-queer media regarding safer sex practices, both should fit them in the the plot naturally. I do think they can fit them in in a non-preachy but realistic way. I wrote a fanfic of Alan & Jeff where the characters discussed past partners/STD checks in a realistic way. I know I've had these conversations with my own partners and it's disappointing to rarely see/read these in the romance genre (queer or straight).

Yes, I am dedicated to the BL genre. I have spent thousands and thousands of hours watching, writing reviews, creating videos, creating memes and participating in discussions around BL.
