I marked this as dub con, it's borderline consensual vs non consensual for me. King seemed to be very sober the entire time whereas Uea appeared to be extremely drunk beforehand but then when he talks to King on the bed he doesn't seem very drunk at all. However then the next morning he doesn't remember right away (to indicate that he was very drunk) but does remember what happened (and regrets it). I don't get the sense that Uea feels taken advantage of by King, more that he wished he hadn't had sex with King.

I believe it’s Alex’s fault, he continued to have sex with Jean after she said stop/tried to push him off her. The fact that he didn’t hear her maybe mitigates his fault but the effect is exactly the same to Jean, it doesn’t matter that he didn’t do it on purpose. The writers really messed this whole plot line up and I wish they would have stuck with the picture situation (I wish that they had had consensual sex but someone took pictures of them and posted them around the school, Alex is praised and Jean is shamed).

She said stop and Alex didn’t stop.

I agree that he was extremely wasted, yet he was still able to have sex. I’ve been very drunk and would have noticed/heard if someone said stop/tried to push me off during sex but I suppose this situation could happen that someone would be so drugged/drunk/out of it that they don’t realize they are having sex. But that doesn’t make the effect on the other person different, that other person was raped and has to live with that trauma for the rest of their life.

I just came up with the term “unintentional rape” to explain that I don’t think Alex’s intention was to hurt Jean. But our intentions don’t change the effects of our actions. Someone can be well meaning and hurt another human. The least we can do is apologize, make amends and respect their boundaries (thus far Alex has done 1 of those).

I 100% agree that men can be victims as well. And even though the definition of rape I found doesn’t fit this, if it had been the reverse and Jean was on top of Alex I would have said the same thing.

I think the writers really messed up this whole plot line. They are trying to make the rape seem not so bad (Alex was very drunk, they both initially were into it, she might still love him) but then they show how badly it hurt Jean (crying afterwards, 10 years later and she didn’t want to see/talk with him, deeply traumatized/has PTSD).

I hope that the preview is totally wrong but even Alex entertaining the idea of him needing to kiss Jean to get his orgasm back is abhorrent to me. He should have respected her boundary and listened to her initially when she said she didn’t want to ever talk/see him again.

Jean has been traumatized and even 10 years later it appears that she has PTSD. I would label this the same way regardless of gender or sexual orientation. So if Jean was riding Alex and he said stop and she continued then I'd label it the same way. Consent can be revoked at any point for any reason. A victim being drunk doesn't mean that they deserved it or it was their fault, that's victim blaming and I don't subscribe to that. I think the writers really messed this whole plot line up as evidenced by our very conversation.

She said no multiples times and she tried to push him off her, that's rape. Consent can be revoked at any point. I'm not saying Alex should go to jail for years or be on the sex offender list for his entire life but he raped her and she's dealt with that trauma for 10 years.

I think they tried to do too much and as a result botched a whole bunch of things that just reinforce stereotypes/misconceptions. I also really liked it at the beginning but was super disappointed with episode 6 and other aspects as the series has continued.

I will be happy to delete my comment and edit my review if they manage to not do what they hinted at in the preview for next week/handle this issue way better than they have up to this point

Hold on. So in the next episode Alex is going to try to kiss Jean, the woman he raped, so that he can orgasm again?!? I think I just threw up a bit in my mouth.

I don't have an issue with watching fictional characters/teenagers having sex but I want the actors to be at least 18 as outlined above. What made me more uncomfortable with the BDSM stuff is how they are ignoring fundamental parts of BDSM such as consensual (i.e. not blackmailing/manipulating someone into it) and also those scenes were super choppy.

sorry that was a typo, I thought that they had just gotten together and so touching someone when they are sleeping could be non/dub con. But yes, I agree that when people are in a longer term relationship you don't need to ask every single time.

Yeah, I don't mind if they are teen actors playing teenagers with tame stuff. I think that NSFW brings another layer and I want actors to be 18.

I also noticed the huge similarity with My Love Mix Up, I'm okay with it though because there are so many plots that there are bound to be similarities (if it was an eraser though I think that would cross a line for me).

I disliked the shaking camera, at first I had no idea why they were doing that. It will definitely go on the section of things that I didn't like. And the fact that Shokun has been kind of manipulated into that situation, I really wanted it to be consensual.

I'm actually shipping King and Shokun lol.

Ah okay I missed that, but wouldn't people see something that huge in the sky? I don't think governments could keep this a secret even hobbyists could see something large moving through the sky with a home telescope. I know it's fiction but I've seen several asteroid/moon colliding with earth doomsday BLs and wish they'd go with something that could actually happen like deadly virus, large natural disaster or nuclear fallout. If they do the rest of the story well, then I'll definitely increase my rating.

I was thinking more about it and they messed up by trying to do two different things in this episode/series. One was how women are shamed for their sex lives but men are applauded. Two was Alex raping Jean. They should have just focused on issue 1. If they wanted to go with 2 then Alex and Jean should not be endgame because that pairing is not what I want. I agree an apology is not enough - he at the minimum should have had to take classes, do community service and give financial restitution to Jean.

I was already not happy how Army has ignored Alex's boundaries multiple times with kissing him and the stuff with Joe makes me angry as well. I agree they are reinforcing stereotypical behavior. This series is getting some stuff right about social issues and they are getting some stuff really wrong.

You can get blackout drunk where you forget all or parts of what happened. However, I'm not sure if someone who is at that level of drunk could have sex with someone against their will (but it has perhaps happened, I haven't been in that situation). I have gotten pretty drunk before and I did remember the next day generally what happened.

I do think that this was bad writing and I also hated his free pass in the morning. They really wrecked Alex's character for me (also him just ditching is friend bleh). It's also odd that the school was shown to have comprehensive sex ed including consent discussions and then Alex goes on to rape Jean.
