I rarely blame actors. The writers, directors and editors make a huge difference with the final product. I don't know what they were going for but they didn't succeed in either the romance or supernatural department.

I have read most of both novels and yes the second one has military elements that would require a large budget. I believe it's the first book (but that part hasn't been adapted) where a character does something that I consider unforgivable...

I said it was similar with Bad Buddy regarding their dynamic. They have an enemy vibe right now, but I feel that there is an undercurrent of romantic tension and we all know where that will lead :)

The series ends in the past with couples being happy. I interpreted it as the past was changed so the future will change and there will be a HEA in the future as well

*Kataoka does not think he is raping Odajima. They talk about it in episode 2 when Kataoka says he doesn't have sex with anyone who doesn't want to and because Odajima doesn't stop him, he assumes it's fine. We as viewers know that Odajima is not allowing things because he wants to but because he is seeking revenge and is putting up with it until he can exact his revenge.
