People always complain, no matter how the first episode is. If it is too slow and introductory, you see people complain about it, declaring it the worst thing ever. If it is going fast and throws details at you, while being introductory you see people complain, declaring it the worst thing ever.
There is no winning here, as everyone has the attention span of a goldfish these days and does not even wait to see what a drama of 16 eps has to offer in the remaining 14, lmao. So you best advised to forget about the miserable people here in the comments and watch for yourself. Keep in mind that there are only 2 episodes out yet.
Also rating on MDL means jackshit these days, best throw that way of thinking of it being a metric for quality or usage as a useful guideline what to watch right into the garbage where it belongs along with the inflated system itself. Always judge for YOURSELF if you are even mildly interested in a drama. (Case in point: there are SO MANY dramas rated below 8 i personally found way more entertaining and better than the ones rated 8 or higher. You are missing out on a lot if you take arbitrary ratings that are very dependent on popularity/hype, actors stans/haters etc as your only guideline.)
i was really looking forward for this drama because I loved the plot so much. but i can't bring myself to watch…
Why are you hating on a drama you haven't even watched? And how can you know it is bad if you haven't seen a single minute of it? Makes no sense at all, what? I swear some people here are complaining only to hear the sound of their voice/clicking of their keyboards. lmao.
Buuuut in case you *do* actually gonna watch it, regard that episode 1 and 2 go in tandem, since its story only really starts at the end of eps 1 with the appearance of Kokdu.
Oh man, you haven't watched 'It's okay, that's love'? Geez, I envy you, that one is gold.
Haha, nope i haven't yet. Since i only started to watch kdrama about a year ago, i have soooo much to catch up on still. So i am trying to spread out the oldies but goldies in between the already large airing kdrama list xD
Tbh, I am always a bit skeptical of dramas pre 2016 or so (haven't vibed with/liked many from 2014/15 so far), but i have heard good things about that one, hence it is one I keep for the rainy days ;)
the more we get into this the less out of place the murder mystery feels. They've set up such a competitive, corrupt…
I don't exactly disagree but i could still do very much without this remake of School 2017 subplot (with added murder) and the annoying momzillas and their obnoxious antics. I really enjoy the other parts of the drama a lot but in these scenes i always get a twitchy ffw finger, lol. Thankfully in the last two episodes it was more bearable and i hope it won't overshadow the other, more interesting parts of the drama in the future.
Every death so far has been ridiculous. I thought he was already immortal when he ripped that arrow out of his…
Exactly. I don't know why ppl expect a serious fantasy epic with this drama when all the teaser have shown to be goofy and lighthearted. It very much feels like a "you" problem with their wrong expectations tbh. Ah well. The cultural explanations etc in the subs on Viki are the reason why i always prefer to watch my kdramas there whenever possible. It is so helpful, even if i tend to understand the one or other wordplay on its own by now (thanks to learning korean for almost a year now) haha.
Oh and since you mentioned Alberto Gu, me reminds KJH's interpretation of Kokdu a lot of his character Dong Goo in "Welcome To Waikiki" who was goofy and petty in equal amounts too 😂

Haha yeah, but i have a good time with it. Honestly, i take it as my brain off and roll with it drama of the week for now. And watching Kim Jung Hyun going off acting wise being the quirky grinch god of death instead of a GRIM grim reaper (pun intended) of course. He has had so much *fun* with his role and it shows. It is just pure fun and such a very welcome change to all the many dark, miserable kdramas of the heavy sort lately.

Wow, chill dude. How about you take a deep breath first, then another, go outside, touch some grass and then if you still feel the need to write a nonsense rant disguised as review after watching a singular episode of a newly airing kdrama, well that is cool, i guess. Not unhinged at all. Completely normal to do that, instead to just drop the drama and move on on with your life. 🤡
But congrats for time-traveling i guess, seeing you completed all 16 episodes of a kdrama that are not even out yet and will be only actually finishing airing at the end of march. Quite the achievement. Lmao. Shows how much merit is to your words, though.
The female lead is not even bad. People are always hating on her in every drama she is in.
I mean i am not her fan either, but it is getting really annoying how irrational the criticism has become already. They make her waaaaay worse than she actually is. It is interesting tho how everyone is suddenly an acting expert, lmao. You should apply in auctions to take up acting roles then if you feel you can do better than ISH (and KJH for that matter who also already got criticized here, oh the irony)
I feel you babe! you mentioned that the more popular the drama is the less likely you watch it, nice to know we…
I am the same, but for me it is not for the lack of trying, it is just that i don't connect with a lot of popular shows in general (i was meh about AoS, MLN, 2521, ABP to name a few.) The only popular ones i liked last year are EAW (second half was meh tho) Tomorrow, and now Crash Course In Romance, heh.
I rather tend to steer toward liking shows that people are prone to overlook (From Now On Showtime, May I Help You, If You Wish Upon Me, Salon De Nabi, Crazy Love, Strangers Again) while airing. Which does not make me more hipster or enlightened/better a viewer ofc. It is just what it is, and the a streak/pattern of loving the more "niche" kdramas instead of the popular ones seems to continue for me haha
SO much to say about this drama! but right off the bat, I have to say that it definitely deserves higher than…
For me the plot fell very flat in the last few episodes (and characters behaving irrationally bc the plot demanded it) but i will forever love this kdrama pairing and the absolute natural, mature (grown-ass kdrama characters are shown (in allusion having sex, le gasp, instead of blushing and stammering while holding hands, Which is cute yes but not fully believable for ppl 30+ of age lmao) and adorable romance and skinship between the leads.
They 1000% felt like a married couple with all its up and downs and i am sad that there are so few kdramas with married leads overcoming odds together in general (when it is not a stupid cheating/revenge makjang that is)
This is a very good review btw... post it as actual review if you haven't yet :)
Just notice it really misses the comedy tag as genre and it should have that, since i think this would help to adjust people's expectation regarding the drama being a "serious fantasy epic" When it is actually... anything but lol (again, see & watch FNOS for reference 😁) Now i have to wait till the other tags are approved in order to do so, ah well.
