i have so many thoughts about the last episode/two episodes and how the steady build up of its plot now all comes together so well (and the Donghee dynamic....god i could *essay* about that alone lmao) but that is for a latter post when i have sorted my thoughts. Definitely need to sit down one of these days and a) write a comprehensive review of it for MDL b) rewrite the terribad synopsis here, and c) get my ass into Sony Vegas and make video edits of our golden retriever couple bc there are woefully little of them.
There are four episodes to go but i already dread the drama hangover/slump its ending will cause me, which i had last with From Now On Showtime. Here though, i fear it will be even worse bc this little waaaaay too underappreciated show snuck up on me by surprise, because i would have never expected to love it as much as i do now ๐ญIf it can stick its landing and by now i have little to no doubt it will manage that, THIS is my favorite Kdrama of 2022. Yes, it even beats From Now On Showtime, who would have thought that (not me, tbh)
It was understandably a heavy episode with the death anniversary and THE TALK and all, but oh boi did they had…
No breakups and i expect none to happen in this drama, as it is so wonderfully mature about its storytelling (no needless angst/drama bullshit, everything, about the characters actions/reactions etc makes sense and is organic.) You can watch it with subs here:
So did they break up? Or did they understand each other
The latter. ONLY the latter and the talk happened in the first 10 minutes with as much support, honesty and empathy as it is always between them . Which does not surprise me, because this is honestly one of the best written kdrama relationships i have seen.
Random cute thing i noticed: On her phone, Dongjoo has saved Taehee with a bear emoji๐ป after his name. Which is an adorable callback to episode 2 and his bear costume dance to cheer her up, aww.
It was understandably a heavy episode with the death anniversary and THE TALK and all, but oh boi did they had to put a murder suicide on top of that? Oof. Narrative-wise i can see the writers intent here in letting a young girl be her client and lament what she all has not done yet. As it mirrors all the things TH's brother won't be able to do too, but still. OOOOOOOOF. This episode wasn t an easy watch at all and very somber tonally, but oh so important for Taehee.
I am glad he seized the chance to reconcile with his parents. at last. I love to see how much he has grown as a character to channel his grief in a more healthy way instead to bottle it up, because with DJ he can talk about everything and he knows she is there for him every step of the way. She cannot take this from him, no one can, but it is such a relief and security when you know you have such a person in your life during these times. Also i love how the drama portrays grief in general It feels so real, raw and relatable, bc no matter how much time passes, you will always miss the person that passed away (especially when it is through such tragic circumstances)
For now I really need to wipe away my tears and rewatch the dating scenes in episode 11 of our golden retriever couple as a palate cleanser ;)
I agree with you they are so adorable:) Can you recommend me dramas with green flag ML I havenโt seen a lot…
OOOH right, Seo Heon is such a cutie, but i focused on mainly romance themed shows or dramas where it is a (big) part of the plot. But yeah we can include him here, i love both of the leads and hate how much they have to suffer. I want them to be happy in the end, tho i doubt it will happen๐ญ
I haven't watched any c-drama thus far since i use kdramas also as language immersion tool (i learn korean since 10 months now,) so i could not include any of c-dramas in this list. Good to know tho, i will give it a look/try, thanks.
oh god, i watched like two minutes and i am already tearing up. Like remember when in episode 7 Taehee nagged Dongjoo to renew the passcode for her door because 1234 was way too easy and then mind-read all her further attempts to use any combinations of 123456789 (and no birthdays either!) ? Eventually she gave in to his demand and created an 8 digit code and told him she used a date she will never forget.
Guess what it is. GUESS.๐ญ ๐ญ ๐ญ I am not okay,
Yes and it is once more slept on by the majority who say 2022 kdrama has only sad depressing stories to tell. What a surprise.
Sure, given its subject matter MIHY is sad too at times but never depressing and miserable. Instead it has so much heart, care and warmth in its storytelling ๐ฅบ๐ฅบ๐ฅบ
And it is one of the most healthy, affectionate/loving and supportive portrayal of the leads' relationship I have ever seen in a kdrama, not to forget.
This is not why we are afraid. We are bc they writers may find a way to separate them without logical reason.…
I would rather see them weather the difficulties together with all the mutual support and compassion that has been their trademark till now. Anything else would be very out of character for them. And also because I can count the kdrama without breakups on one hand. There are too damn few and this shitty trope is overused bc it is the cheapest of angst plot devices when there are actually a million of other possibilities to create external/internal conflict between couples. Hence the breakup trope is just lazy writing. Do better, writers. Ugh.
Uugh, seeing they tackle Junho's final arc this week, or maybe till ep 13, then remembering their released article…
I could watch them simply go about their day and on dates for hours ngl, but I'm quite unsure what they are going to do plotwise in the last four episodes after today. I really hadn't expected for THE TALKโข๏ธ to happen this early. Then again seeing the setup with the small time jump of 2-3 weeks to reach October for the death anniversary to happen it was inevitable. Small detail I appreciated btw: We see TH sitting at home with the TV on and there they talk about Hangul day festivities to come, which is on 9th of October. The day Joonho died. So they conveyed his grief/dread of the day more indirectly and I love clever details like that in a story bc it is natural.
I donโt think there will be a breakup because there is no grounds for that. Regarding what it took to get to terms with his feelings for Dongjoo I highly doubt TH will break his promise to never let go of her hand. I mean we talk here about a man who was complaining about her letting go of his hand on their way home just bc she looked at the night sky, who was whining because he could not see her for two days and wants to go on a date with her every day. Who drove hours to her faraway business trip place because he missed her. This guy is so down for her xD And DJ responds in kind to his affection, enthusiastically so. Sure, there will be tests for the bond of their relationship, but I would love to see them weather them together. Like they have done all this time before, because their bond is VERY strong.
I need to start making a list of kdrama couples who have ruined me because now I have multiple
Same. Dongjoo and Taehee have set the standard so so high for me though. I won't settle any longer for a kdrama couple without open, honest and compassionate communication, mutual respect, understanding and support and a lot of affection for each other tbh.
Nope. It has been two years then since his death then. Check the timeline list i made here, so i don't have to…
Oh np, the drama works a lot with visual clues instead of spelling everything out for the viewer, so some things are easy to miss/just caught upon rewatch ;)
i don't remember when it was but at one point tae hee asked dong joo if she had ever taken care of a kid i think?…
It is in eps 5, yes. And I found Taehee's reaction to the whole "the dead come alive when i touch them/I see ghosts" thing of hers AFTER he realized it WAS the truth exceptional. Like, instead of being weirded out like so many other would, he went after her to ask like 50 questions about it, wanted to know more about how it works etc. ๐ And yes he asked her when she had started working and if she had ever met a boy. But DJ was so annoyed at the point by all the questions that she refused to answer any ๐ (she thought he was not serious with it anyway and stressed due to his threat made at the beginning of eps 4 of telling her teamleader about her hugging apple mom incident)
Yeah, but also unlike CH she is not directly "involved" into TH's brother's death. She met the boy, so to speak, when he was already dead, after all. CH however is, however unwanted/w/o her own doing, irrevocably linked to it bc without the ring, none of it would have happened.
And even if DJ would have fulfilled the wish... and would have been able to give the ring back to TH's family. What then? He would have broken up with CH either way, ring or not. Their relationship was dead the moment his brother passed away. Basically, nothing would changed about the outcome if DJ had heeded the boy's wish instead of running away. Joonho still would be dead and Taehee traumatized by it. Except maybe that Taehee would have an awful memorabilia of his failure and his guilt in his hands and home. Great. ๐๐๐ Here is hoping he takes the ring and flings the cursed thing into the han river, lmao.
But bottom line is, Dongjoo did not know that this was TH's brother she met and tells him as soon she finds out about it. Neither did she lie/keep it a secret from him, nor betray him in any way or form. The more i think about it the less i see grounds for a breakup MAKING ANY SENSE for what she did/or rather ran away from. It will be tear and painful to talk about for both of them, tho, it is a much needed conversation. And I am happy DJ is tackling it head on, instead to drag it out till episode 16 lol.
Yes, his task was just to deliver the ring to Taehee (so he could give it/use it to propose to CH back then. The…
Yeah that is a good point about him forgiving Hae An, but I think it would take him a lot more time and working through it emotionally than the "issue" with Dongjoo. But in the end, HA faced a similar dilemma, to save a child or his brother. However, meeting DJ or not, I don't think you can call it blessing in disguise given that TH's beloved little brother died in said incident and he had been miserable for years due to it.
I agree however that down the line he could/would have become unhappy with CH when he'd stayed with her. They are not really comparable for many reason after all. I actually don't know how he endured that mom monster for as long as he did lmao. She is/was the worst. Even past death, she treated TH like a commodity to trade in, instead of a person with his own thoughts, feelings and agency. YIKES.
I don't understand why people worry in future episodes that they will break up just because of the ring. The boy's…
Yes, his task was just to deliver the ring to Taehee (so he could give it/use it to propose to CH back then. The proposal is not the boy's last wish, just to find the ring was important to him. And agreed, I don't see a break up storyline. On the contrary I think this revelation will strengthen their relationship. A breakup would go against any narrative direction the drama has set with its story and themes of healing and forgiveness, living without regrets etc) so far tbh. And this guy is so in love with her i struggle seeing him even taking some time away from her, least of all blaming her. I have waaaaay more trouble to believe TH will forgive Hae An, because his role in this story is an entirely different one than Dongjoo's who was scared of a dead boy "coming to life" again after she touched him. WHO WOULD NOT REACT AS SHE DID?
It will be a shock for sure he has to digest, but Taehee was carrying a weight all this time, and Dongjoo has helped him toward his steps to heal so much already. I think after the first shock he will be relieved to hear that Joonho thought about him till the end, because remember they already talked about how he thinks joonho resents him in eps 9. And she already talked about a worried boy she met that cared much more about others than himself there. DJ just did not know it was indeed his brother she talked about/met.
Also remember that this couple is exceptionally good in facing their issues head on and discuss them in an honest, compassionate manner, even if it is (about) something uncomfortable. I am tad anxious due to the bad track record of kdrama in 2022 (FNOS is one of the few dramas that delivered), but i also think this drama is different. Or i hope so, heh.
If itยดs his aniversary, it means sheยดs being working there for almost a year. So I think not all the people…
Nope. It has been two years then since his death then. Check the timeline list i made here, so i don't have to repeat myself why Dongjoo is only working for months as funeral director instead of years/a year:

Donghee are stronger than ever and I appreciate the writer so much for staying true to the character and the organic writing of its plot.
