i think it's ok. the female lead doesn't give a f about him romantically, but they have some scenes. u have to…
to clarify, at no point in time FL is ever interested in him. She knows what and who she wants and that is ML and she is very vocal and open about it. SML and her share some scenes you could file under "buddies" or rather "buddies with an one-sided crush, aka SML on her but she does not give a single f... 🤣
My motivation to watch this show is just about gone. Ive been watching an older family drama called Want a Taste.…
Eh, it always is worse before it gets better, especially in weekenders. Difference is here the get better part is taking a while, unfortunately. But halfway through now it really got good/satisfying bc we have finally arrived at the titular plot point of hyoshim living her own life hehe
Because i have been making dedicated twitter threads for the leads' scenes in LYOL, since around eps 16 where i was beginning to screencap and comment on their scenes on twitter. Up till eps 27 now with the format of mostly vids that works best for me. (i record each of their scenes and split them into bite-size pieces for commentary.) It is basically the twitter version of my eps summary i did for TRHC, haha.
This scene here is imo the best example for their (post bickering) dynamic/screen chemistry and this was BEFORE they started dating hahaha
My motivation to watch this show is just about gone. Ive been watching an older family drama called Want a Taste.…
Oh i can understand that, given the comments here. I just finished Never Twice a few days ago and liked it, with some minor exceptions very much. I miss this feel of community and wholesomeness in recent weekenders, ngl.
If you start LYOL, do yourself a favor and mentally prepare yourself for an exceptional amount of asshole characters and toxic fam members. Like, everyone but the leads ( + ML's granny, FL's nephew and Mirim) is garbage haha, and they barely change for 20 eps (hell, some have yet to have any char development thus far) Around 15-23-ish the plot reeeeallly stagnated and circled around itself. Hence why a generous amount of skipping after the intro phase of five or six eps is required. I basically focused on the leads scenes only for around 10 or more eps, bc their relationship progress from bickering brats to genuine care is really cute and well done, if slow (like everything.) It also helps that Hajun and Uee are doing a fantastic job with their chars and have such a comfortable/easy dynamic with each other (like them saying they have become friends irl, is not just pr, it is noticeable.) Especially Hajun seems to have a lot of fun with this role, veering from serious/heartfelt to golden retriever and jokey troll and back, however the situation it requires. He started out like the biggest brat (which he owns up to later on), but becomes such a wholesome and supportive guy for FL she can always rely on, especially now where they are dating. If i am honest, if it weren't for these two, i would have given up on LYOL during its very stretchy slow and circular parts lol.
Either way, tldr: Her family is the worst. TRHC's mother was an angel in comparison, same for the brother for what we see literal wastes of spaces and oxygen here with the middle and youngest one. The story is well structured and set up yet falls into a 10 eps nap at the very least. Since eps 25 it is very good tho with heaps of progress, with no small help of the leads and their chemistry/adorableness and oh delulu SML being far away from FL at long last. It does feel there are only a handful at best common sense ppl in this drama for the longest time tho lmao.
The amount of times this show has the characters almost figure things out is infuriating lol
Just on your first time watch as you are waiting for them to figure things out, heh. But narratively it does make sense for the things happen when they does bc especially ML would not have been open to FL otherwise were it to happening at an earlier point. Or rather he would have truly left at that one point in the story hadn't he already developed such an emotional attachment and feelings to/for her. So the near misses etc were needed in a way to give the leads time and space to establish their feelings first and heal, before dropping the bombshell. Also i read that the show got shortened, hence why we get one big revealing episode where everything crashes onto them instead to keep the slower prior pace up, lol.
I have kinda given up on this thing here while very much enjoying the weekender and it's cute leads (nothing like TRHC, actual chemistry!) where the writer woke up after her 24 eps power nap and is now going strong ever since (prayer circle that it's lasting tho) Meanwhile I'm lagging good twenty episodes here behind and my willpower to change that is tending toward zero, whoops.
Anyone knows more kdramas like this one? It gave me such a happy and warm feeling with a loot of meaning. I want…
Thirty But Seventeen (Still 17 on Netflix) is exactly what you are looking for (in case you have not seen it yet. It is a drama about how picking back up a life that has been paused by a unfortunate accident and overcoming the trauma of it. FL is a musician there too and it's very wholesome with its themes of healing and found family. 🥰
At this point I don't dislike just the FL's family, I dislike the FL as well. She chooses to be a doormat, allows…
It took her so long to move out, but at least she did now. The big prob is, before Taeho, she never had a person in her life that meant well and had her interest and happiness in mind. She was caught in a vicious cycle of familial abuse (financial and emotionally) that she only broke free of because she now has that one person that puts her first and stopped that toxic circle she has been spinning in for a decade or more and challenged her perspective on it. Aka that this is NOT normal, nor that she has to live this way and how it is better to break free. Basically Taeho has done more for her and helped her more in a couple of weeks than anyone around her had done for years. They have ALL failed her, took her for granted and the gremlin intentionally chipped away at her self-worth and confidence over the years to keep HS under her control and "little" (her telling HS often how ugly she is "jokingly" is just one example of it here)
I disagree with the brat that it is a co-dependency from HS' side (surely from the gremlin of a mother as we have seen bc with HS leaving, so does her steady money source) it is emotional abuse, manipulation and gaslighting from the so called mother, rather. Hence why Taeho's help is great and has managed to better her life so much in so little time with building her up in confidence, emotionally and perspective, but i would love to see her seek out a therapist for the familial trauma/abuse and self-worth/boundaries issues she dealt with. (tho we will hardly see this happening with it being a kdrama, particularly not in a weekender, welp)
However while I get it was frustrating to watch (for me too) we should not put HS in the same category like her abusive fam, especially now where she has finally taken steps to reclaim a life that at no point before had ever been hers. And if her toxic egocentric shitfam had any say in it still would never ever be hers, while they continue bleed their dry, financially AND emotionally without any remorse or refrain whatsoever. Her getting away was required not only for HS to learn that she is not a bad person to value herself and live her own life (like her "mother" gaslit her to believe) but also for these bastards to stop being complete parasites. If they *ever* manage that, that is.
I do feel bad for Tae-Min. He loves Hyo Sim whom can't accept his feelings. Poor Hyo Sim for always struggling…
she doesn't WANT to accept his feelings is more accurate here, and yet he continued to make them her responsibility and it did paint several targets on her back doing so. The latest was not even long ago, with his evil cowmother treating her like a sex worker for hire.
It wouldn't make sense for him to be a good kisser, he literally learns from reading books. His swimming, swordplay…
The pp dance was great ngl but for me it is the shirt off kissing in the dark scene which is why I was saying it shows they didn't watch DWY (or also She would never know) when saying Rowoon's is a bad kisser in his roles heheh
I'm catching up with this show and idk how ppl could ever say Rowoon's acting being bad in here. He is hilarious in this role with his comedic timing and each of his microexpressions and babygirlisms is so on point, bless 😂🤣😂
I haven't laughed about a ML's antics so much for a long time. He certainly is... unique and Rowoon's playing all his many odd quirks perfectly ngl
It wouldn't make sense for him to be a good kisser, he literally learns from reading books. His swimming, swordplay…
Yeah it is completely in character here but the rest is like tell me I haven't watched DWY and 'She would never know' without telling me you have not watched them. Lmao
Another drama from 2023 that started promisingly and then fails. I'm really quite fond of the fantasy genre, but…
i really like the past lives trope but it was a bit much of it lately and so many shows quickly following after one another with it that even i feel fatigued of it. "Past lives" are definitely that what last year has been law dramas 😂 Idk why they seem to hyperfocus on one genre/trope for a year before moving on to the next but here we are lmao
Expect this to stay the ultimate mood while watching this show lmao. As I only kept watching because of these two, especially since there are so many unlikelable characters in the drama and the plot stagnated till episode 25 basically. The leads are cute and fun together tho. The rest of it is best watched with a generous amount of skipping tho imo. Mirim is best girl, too tho. Also shockingly HS' bratty niece is dropping some very needed truth bombs in eps 26/27
Had to read the plot synopsis for this because episode 1 was so confusing and I didn’t understand what was happening
That is why i rewrote the MDL synopsis from the scratch back then, so it becomes a bit clearer as many ppl were confused with the time line of it. In the browser version of MDL you also can find a timeline forum post I wrote up as aid.
depends how experienced you are in watching weekenders because this one requires a lot of patience and a good amount of skipping to get through the first half with its amount of asshole characters and the longest introduction phase of a drama ever. Aka where story and characters, outside the leads v cute relationship progression (and even this one is slooooow) not much happened. However since eps 25, aka halfway thru, i am having a blast with this show since things are moving and characters developing at long last. Like it feels the writer did awake from her 24 episode power nap.😂 And the leads are too cute for words now where they are dating. Super wholesome/supportive with a great chemistry between the actors. Especially Hajun has a lot of fun as Taeho, easily switching from golden retriever and smooth flirter to serious conversations and heartfelt moments. I honestly watch the show for Uee/Hajun and how both of of their characters went from bickering to genuine care and support for each other <3
and I also believe that TaeHo's happiness will not last long and he will go through very hard times.
I mean... He is the male lead in a family drama. Hard times for him are mandatory, basically. 🫣 😅
I wonder where his way will lead, outside a very apparent marriage to Hyoshim that he is already 10000% down for ( https://shorturl.at/efjns 😁) and has been hinted at, that is. If he is indeed the sole heir of everything as it looks like atm (there is a reason why evil aunt cow wants to get rid of him, and I agree with the theory of underling being TM's father at the very least) I still don't see him working as the big ceo. Taeho is more the type who does his work and does it well but then is glad to go home to spend time with his gf/wifey. Instead of live at work and being responsible for everything so I think it is more likely he leaves the lead to TM in the end after all. Idk it depends on how involved TM is going to be in covering up everything. Right now this idiot is fully doing so for his criminal parents, so that won't look good for his future at Taesan once everything comes to light.

And this is a (mildly spoilery) scene from a recent episode where they ARE (freshly) dating:
