Nah, he becomes vastly different in the future. His goal becomes to take revenge, whereas in his university days he would think it's a complete waste of time to do something like that. But it's understandable just based off the fact he had to endure prison time + betrayal + who knows what else actually happened to him.
There'll definitely be character development for all the main characters.

I was actually speculating the same thing. I still can't get over how bad the ending of this drama was, because I loved most of it. Guess their tactic worked on me.

Agreed. Their ability to communicate their appreciation for each other with subtle facial expressions & talking like how a normal person would is what makes them so different from many other dramas that try so hard to make 2 people look like they're supposed to be a couple.

It's ML's way to show them what level they need to be at in the outside world. They wouldn't have even been invited to the presentations if the ML didn't change their project. By changing the project proposal, the ML let Gao & FL see others' presentations. By seeing others' presentations, they realize how much they need to improve to be good enough for the corporate world. If they just went together with the ML's project and "smooth-sailed to success", they learn nothing.
A little extreme way to train Gao & FL? Yes. But probably also the best way. And his attitude will probably make more sense the more you watch.

And a lot of people that go to their university are good students. I can tell you very few people in the real world attending their first programming language class is at Gao & FL's level lol. The ML is just on a whole different tier because all he does is code basically 20 hours a day.

Don't let anyone spoil this for you. The episode that explains this is a very important one I think, and you should watch it for yourself.

Anything can be "cliche" if you oversimplify it
The ML is helping the FL because she:
- actually cares about him. Signed the ML up for volleyball & urged him to get surgery for spine. Everyone else only cares about his intelligence, but she cares about his health.
- goes against her mom's orders to leave him, even though she's a "good daughter" who always listens to her mom
- helped repair the lighter, which meant a lot to him. Others probably just see it as old junk
- a few more things but I don't want to make this too long

In many other dramas, the ML helps the FML just because:
- she happens to be his type or
- the story/director dictates that they're "fated" to be together
- or some other lazy writing reason.

+ LX is not shown to be willing to do "anything" yet. Winning the competition probably barely takes lifting a finger for him. He was quite reluctant at first as well, which I liked and is consistent with his character. If he was already head over heels for the FML, that would be inconsistent characterization.

I don't think she ever actually hated him. She was attracted to him on first sight (and who can blame her lol?)
On Episode 2, you can see she really pays attention to what the ML is doing during their first class together.
+ the ML has said some flirty things to the FL and actually treated her differently early on, when he gave her his jacket, which probably made her more attracted to him.

When a girl keeps saying she hates a guy, you can probably assume the opposite is true lol. At least in a drama.

I don't really remember the FML trying hard to prove herself. It's mostly just her being a good, hardworking student. But surely the ML is part of what motivates her, and I don't blame her at all haha.

Gao is the kind of person who wants attention and validation.
LX is the kind of person who steals all the attention with no effort, and he would never give anyone (Gao included) any attention or validation except for the FL.
They're kind of just fated to be enemies.

She spends that much time coding because of Li Xun.
Before she got close to him, she has admitted to not being particularly fond of coding and the reason she got into coding was because of her mom during a conversation with Mr. Lin.
+ Li Xun noticed she "codes by the book", and metaphorically those who go by books/rules aren't truly passionate in what they're doing.

Arrogant and rude for sure, but how is he "annoying" for just wanting to be left alone?
He simply doesn't see the world the same as everyone else considering his backstory, which is shown in the later episodes.
About his future self... do we expect someone to somehow be an innocent sweet guy after being betrayed and sent to prison? That would just be shitty character writing, no?

I think it's worth trying out. It's a really well-made drama (so far) on a "technical" level, but some people don't like the ML's personality. I personally think it's quite charming especially the more you watch & learn about him.

I'm going to make some heavy assumptions.
Zhu Yun doesn't seem to like coding (and computer-related stuff in general). She only got into coding because her mom basically forced her to. I'm guessing for her it's meaningless to stay in the company after Li Xun is gone.

"Lighter & Princess", the title of the show, can also be abbreviated L&P, so I'm guessing the ML (Lighter) & FL (Princess) are the original owners. Maybe GJH as well.

I don't think so. Their University days was "7 years ago". I don't think it would make sense for a drama like this to take place in 2026.
