No offence but you judging the actor not the character, so what you didn't like was the actor not the character.…
I agree that he is attractive, just not in this role in my opinion. That’s all. I remember starting SCOY and not liking him but during a rewatch of Why R U? where he plays a side character, I noticed how cute he was and got really confused as to why I found Toh so off putting.
No offence but you judging the actor not the character, so what you didn't like was the actor not the character.…
Um… I’m just saying it’s his portrayal that didn’t work for me. That’s why I also mentioned how the director must have told him to act. I’m not being mean, I just didn’t think he suited the role at all and that’s a perfectly valid opinion. If you think he did a good job that’s fine, I disagree. And it has nothing to do with his looks either! I actually think that actor is very good looking in other contexts.
I blocked the self-appointed keepers of morale virtue, from the Cutie Pie board, so I don't see them. I don't…
That Cutie Pie page was absolutely wild! I was in the thick of it for a while but there really is no talking to these people. It’s so exhausting to try to just have your preferences respected and not be basically told that you’re an evil rapist sympathizer who gleefully endorses sexual violence.
Jesus Christ yes please. But I already saw it happening with episode one. I added one comment hoping to get the…
Exactly. I was actually just in a thread on another page and the person just wouldn’t stop repeating that SA is wrong over and over. Like, no shit dude?! No matter how much explaining and debating goes on they cast moral judgment and hide behind their closed-mindedness. I really think it comes down to immaturity and lack of imagination. Like they really can’t grasp the fact that it’s fictional. I don’t know. I’m just irritated and tired.
There does seem to be a bit of a herd mentality and not just here. While I have no doubts some people do find…
Exactly totally completely correct! Thank you!
(Also I totally agree about TT! That’s always the example I give when people start up on their usual bullshit. And to be honest Love Mechanics is unexpectedly like my new favorite thing ever! The more toxic the better IMO. Not really, but also kinda… Lol 😜 If people want wholesome there are plenty of really awesome options for that too. There’s room for all of it!! Sheesh!)
This comment section better not turn into cutie pie 2.0 where everyone argues instead of accepting opinions 😭
Jesus Christ yes please. But I already saw it happening with episode one. I added one comment hoping to get the morality police to pipe down, but I don’t think I’ll be touching it again.
I see you have not watched Yaoi in the first place :D...The first minute of this drama is actually one of the…
I don’t “understand” what you are saying because you are wrong. Your clearly non-academic article proves absolutely nothing and in fact points out the obvious which is that these depictions could possibly be damaging to “YOUNG VIEWERS” which is why they all have age restrictions, as they should. As adults with fully developed brains, we can differentiate between fantasy and reality. And despite your nonsense “source,” violence in media still doesn’t inspire real life violence. So next time maybe do some deeper research than just a quick google search and a biased article that happens to fit your narrative?
Also, how do you seriously not get that a fictional depiction of rape (in this specific genre) is rape fantasy?! That’s exactly what it is. What else would it be? These aren’t real people! I know that TV seems really real but honey it’s make believe. You know that right?
I think I’m actually losing brain cells every time I read one of your comments so I’ll be hopping off here. Have a nice, boring, vanilla, pearl-clutching life. 😚
(Side note: the word was “demonizing” as in attributing evil or negative qualities to something, not “demonetizing” but I’m sure with your high level of intelligence you caught on to that eventually, right?)
I see you have not watched Yaoi in the first place :D...The first minute of this drama is actually one of the…
Lol. Ok. So you’re allowed to enjoy “dark” shows but when someone indulges in rape fantasy or even milder forms of domsub dynamics that means they are condoning actual rape?! That’s just dumb and frankly offensive. Why don’t you use your last brain cell to understand that just like I don’t endorse murder when I watch a horror movie, I’m also not and would never defend rape or sa. What I will defend is the right to sexual expression and sex positivity that doesn’t shame people for having different proclivities. And as I mentioned there is ZERO correlation between violence in media and real life violence as shown by scientific studies. And what does that mean you may ask…? It means it is in fact HARMLESS, as in causes no harm to actual human beings. Demonizing us and condemning these shows (that you still are ok with viewing) is an attempt to censor it. Yeah, you can have your backwards opinion all you want and feel free to express it but don’t accuse me or the media I consume of being harmful when it’s not. And don’t expect me to “calm down” and not defend it.
Thanks for the breakdown though, but you’re incorrect and uneducated.
I see you have not watched Yaoi in the first place :D...The first minute of this drama is actually one of the…
Also side note — as an example: I personally find TharnType to be quite unpleasant in its depictions. I think Tharn is predatory and gross. In other words, it’s a fantasy that doesn’t work for me. So you know what I did? I dropped the show and never commented about it. I don’t judge anyone who is intrigued or excited by that story line — it just isn’t for me. Everyone has their threshold and preferences. Let’s just leave it at that, yeah?
I see you have not watched Yaoi in the first place :D...The first minute of this drama is actually one of the…
“it’s giving light to a situation that isn’t positive.” Really? Why do you bother watching anything other than children’s shows then? I guess we should censor all crime, violence, and “immorality” being depicted in all of mainstream entertainment then too right? (Even though the idea that media encourages or causes real life violence has been debunked over and over again…)
Seriously, if you’re bothered by it MOVE ON! That is totally fine. No one is forcing you to watch it… some of us like to indulge in harmless fantasy, so just leave it alone. Not to mention this is an extremely prevalent trope in BL (and always will be) so I suggest you move on from the genre if you don’t want to take the time to research trigger warnings for the things you choose to you watch.
Oh my lord! These are FICTIONAL characters! I can’t get over how ya’ll take it so seriously like an actual crime has been committed. In real life, yes what happened would have definitely crossed the lines of consent. In a fictional TV series on the other hand, it’s a fantasy where no one gets hurt or actually feels violated. It just amazes me how this kind of trope is so pervasive but people still can’t seem to understand that the reason it shows up again and again is because people like and enjoy it ( or hate watch it like most of these commenters). There’s nothing wrong with this kind of fantasy as long as it is just that, a fantasy. I just don’t understand why every other type of crime or unethical action can be depicted and still be considered nothing more than harmless entertainment but when it comes to consent issues being fictionalized it is automatically condemned. I recognize that rape/assault are extremely serious concerns in real life and NO ONE should be violated in that way ever but I also value sex positivity and respect kink culture. If you really think that these depictions encourage or excuse real life actions then I don’t know why you bother consuming any media at all. Is dubcon being romanticized here? For sure, but that is a far cry from endorsing it in real life with actual human beings. There are warnings and age restrictions so that if you personally would be triggered by this (which is a totally understandable reaction for some people) then you can know to avoid it. Meanwhile, let the rest of us have our innocent, kinky fun.
In summary: The scene is hot, but if it’s not your thing move on. Don’t try to shame or censor something just because it isn’t for you.
I tried to watch this show because of the hype but it was just so bad. I had to force myself to keep watching…
I definitely agree about Nuea and Toh — it makes absolutely no sense why he would be so suddenly and so deeply in love with Toh out of nowhere and based on nothing. And their relationship never seems to deepen on any level even as the series progresses. I really wish Sky and Jao had more screen time bc there was at least some dimension to their relationship since it developed more naturally.
I started this when it was airing and couldn’t get past the first episode. It was seriously PAINFUL! But after a dry spell of new series to watch I jumped back in based on some of the comments here. And I can say it is actually worth it for Sky and Jao alone! They are next level adorable and have a decently fleshed out narrative to their relationship. Also I love the representation shown with Daisy’s character. Overall the whole “nerdy” friend group is very sweet and loving, which is quite different from other series. There is a lot to be said about how healthy most of the relationships romantic and otherwise actually are here.
The main couple really didn’t do much for me at all since 90% of the cringe is directly coming from Toh — it’s too bad bc I feel like a different actor (or with different direction) may have been able to pull off the awkward/cringey but ultimately endearing character they were going for much better. In the end he comes off as fairly creepy and off-putting in my opinion. Nuea is obviously gorgeous and I definitely didn’t mind looking at him for so many hours but I never bought into his feelings for Toh, like why?! I really do love the ugly duckling theme to this show but it just worked so much better with Sky and Jao.
Overall if you can get past the cringe as others have mentioned (which is ALOT!) there is actually a lot to like about this one.
Ep 7 was a soul crusher. I’m glad the episode was so long though. We got a rise, a fall, and the start of another…
I agree about Nuea! I really hate this idea that Mark (or anyone) needs to be “taken” for him to consider backing off. All it should have taken was Mark’s clear resistance to his advances. He even pointed out how uncomfortable it made Mark feel when he mentions that Mark is always moving away from him. Like take the fucking hint my guy! Even when it was clear that Vee and Mark were working through some issues he still used Mark’s emotional state to try to worm his way in. I didn’t like that at all. I won’t condone all of Vee’s actions obviously but Nuea’s bs just felt slimy.
I was shocked by how much I actually enjoyed this although it may be because I’ve been starved of new dramas that are even worth watching. I’m also super glad I went in blind without having seen the original. The main leads are really carrying a somewhat overworked script and it could have been 2-4 episodes shorter. The point that several other people have made that it really starts to lag is totally valid. But overall, even though I wasn’t expecting much from this it turned out to be a fun and compelling ride. The sweet moments of the main couple really stood out to me and I couldn’t help audibly aw-ing and shouting “Gahhh so cute” at several moments throughout to the point that my neighbors are probably wondering about me. Lol.
Oh my goodness. This is perhaps the strangest, most depressing BL in BL history. I have said that before, but it…
I guess all of us with depression or mental illness can just fuck our selves and die alone, right?? Like you talk about TharnType being good writing for its depiction of SA but condemn this for depicting a complicated psychological story? And before you yell SJW at me I actually don’t have an issue with depictions of sexual assault or rape. I’m a huge believer in telling these stories and not shaming anyone for being drawn to these dark themes. This slow, subtle, psychological storyline is obviously not for you but it clearly resonates with people for a reason. No one is condoning Ji Woo’s behavior but it comes from a relatable place and it is going too far to call it abusive. A lot of us sabotage relationships for many reasons and that doesn’t make us bad people. What he did was wrong but it seems like he’s coming to terms with it now. The series is well written and well acted. And especially in ep 8 we see Ji Woo realizing the harm he has actually caused and what he has truly lost. It’s clear at this point that he left because he didn’t feel worthy and I think both of these characters deserve sympathy.
Your profile pic has literally just prompted me to watch We best love again too:)
That’s definitely true — Taiwan really used to deliver but this and DNA Says I Love You (which was miles better than this to be fair) are the only recent ones that I know of and have been a let down.
I would DIE for another season of We Best Love! I believe the director hinted at a season 3 but I don’t think it’s happening any time soon, if at all. 🥺
Yeah, I can’t believe Li Gong got away with what he did?! I hate this kind of thing in these series. Like they…
Yeah, I’m older too (in my early 30s) I think that makes a big difference with how we view these shows and the relationships that are depicted. I’ve always like that Taiwan tends to give us shows with working adults but you have to have them act like adults. Thai BLs and others that have teenagers can kind of get away with this but these adults are going to get married on a foundation like this?! It makes zero sense at all!
