What is up with the back and forth?! Honestly, Bai Lu deserves so much more. Yu Zheng acted like he was all for Xu Kai and Bai Lu casting ("because they matched the roles") and even called out the haters, but what the heck is this? Now it's even rumored to be Wu Jinyan as lead in this drama. And I know for sure that is a only a profit seeking decision for YZ, really makes me doubt he cares for his talents. We were really lucky Bai Lu and Xu Kai starred in 2 dramas as leads together, and this one was just too good to be true it seems.
Fated to Love You and My Lucky Star are my two favorite Taiwanese dramas, and that is where my favorites with Taiwanese dramas end. I just can't digest Taiwanese dramas the same way I used to. I will always prefer the OG versions compared to the remakes as they were the ones I've watched firsthand and bonded with as a younger viewer. I wasn't excited at all for the remake of FTLY with Xing Zhao Lin as lead. Many like this pairing because of their other dramas together, but I don't find him that impressive and couldn't finish Lucky's First Love, although I adore Bai Lu. I probably will watch a few episodes to see what is new. I'm wary of the My Lucky Star adaption, but it will definitely depend on casting to entice me to watch. Remakes like this are fine as new fans will enjoy them, even if fans of the original won't. What we don't need is the thousandth remake of Madame White Snake, Legends of the Condor Heroes, Handsome Siblings year after year. Maybe people enjoy them, I don't really know.
wouldnt meteor garden be an adaptation of the hana yori dango, the original manga ??
Yes, but I would say the Taiwanese version back in '01 popularized Meteor Garden as its own staple and put its own adaption on the map. It has different elements and tones compared to the OG Japanese version. Meteor Garden 2019 was a remake of the Taiwanese version, even using the same Chinese names for the characters.
Reading the webtoon will give you more insights to your questions because it address most of it, which was probably one of the main reasons why I could let the unanswered questions in the drama slide just a tad.
Randomly came across a fanmade music video for this. Recognized my First Prince right away! The premise sounds like my cup of tea, hope I can find a way to watch with subs.
MCW is my favourite female actress...I'm so sad that her recent dramas turned out so bad for her ;(
Ikr... They didn't live up to the expectations. She's an amazing actress, so I know she can always kill it in a role... sometimes it's writing/directing.
These will be on my heartbreak playlist: - My Man, Kim Boong-do from Queen Inhyun's Man (Always makes me emotional!) - My Love is Hurt from Gu Family Book - Why Do We from Are You Human Too? - Fox Rain from My Girlfriend is a Gumiho
I admit that when it was first released and I heard bits and pieces of it's amazingness, I was hesitant to watch.…
There may be some spoilers in your comment there... I agree I was skeptical at first too. Somehow it became one of my favorite Chinese dramas. Essentially, it is canon that WWX and LZ are lovers. I think it is okay to view their interactions as soulmates (lovers) but if you're not into that and only view it as brotherhood, that is fine as well. I also watch BTS and interviews to keep the drama fresh in my mind, stay attached to the actors/characters.
This drama really wrecked my mental state. I was really depressed after watching it! All the characters were flawed and 3 dimensional, and I was not anticipating the extreme attachment as a viewer. The actors really pulled me in. I've tried watching the anime to satisfy my quench after watching the drama, but I really couldn't get into it. The novelist did an amazing job creating this story addressing the underlying themes of sheep mentality, bullying, and impacts of mental health. The directors, screenwriters, production staff and cast added an ensemble of immense passion that swept me away. I really loved subtle normalizing of gay romance in this drama, perhaps because of the censorship or not. We can still tell WWX and LZ's relationship is much more than friendship. They really did radiate soulmate status. The CGI, fighting, camerawork, or costumes may have not been on par because of the limited budget. Their budget was much smaller than other historical/fantasy dramas. But they still pulled it off well IMO! Xiao Zhan did stand out the most to me, and I instantly became a supporter of him.
Dragon Love starred Benny Chan right? I like that show so much too, I watched it so many times as a kid. The OST…
Yes, that one with Benny and Fenny! She is one of my top Chinese actress of all time because of that drama. I also like Noel quite a lot! I'm a bit saddened Fenny wasn't in a lot of costume dramas though. I love the OST in Dragon Love as well. I forgot about Hu Ge, but yes he is an amazing actor and he is very handsome. I like him too. Someone also mentioned Eddie Peng and I can't believe he didn't cross my mind because it was really hard to choose between him and Hu Ge in Sound of the Desert haha. You do a great job with your articles! Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
I like it how you went with older dramas! There were some good ones back then that I watched dubbed in my language all the time. I loved Nie Yuan in A Chinese Ghost Story! And Vincent Zhao in Madame White Snake. Jet Li in The Kids from Shaolin, instant classic. I remember watching Howie Huang in his Dark Tales role as the Taoist Student! He was very handsome, and his chemistry with the FL was really good. My other picks are Kevin Yan, Wallace Huo, and Yuan Hong. For the younger crowd, I'd say my main picks are Xu Kai and Xiao Zhan. Just sharing that one of my favorite older dramas in the 2000s is Dragon Love, which I can't find to watch anywhere anymore sadly.
I tried watching Meteor Garden 2018, and couldn't get past the first few episodes. Perhaps, it's because I've grown and have outgrown the Cinderella/Rich Spoiled Prince trope. The live action Hana Yori Dango will always be my favorite of the franchise, Makino is much more likeable than the other versions of her. Chemistry between the two Japanese leads were also very good. I rewatch it every few years, and turn off my brain.
