she is a leading cultivator with determination and direction. the accidental boom boom set both her cultivation and her emotions back. in the first novel/dongue she is very much a matching mate for HL. there can be no other. don't get me started with the actress playing the roll though - arghhhh.

Enjoyed reading your observations (as always) really gets me thinking. In the first novel, he does not yet know what feelings are and if he has them or not. His only go ahead is cultivation. Also, he chooses to keep the cultivation code - no mixing mortal with cultivators. Bearing in mind that he has not approached the women. They approach him. There is no FL in this drama version.

I too think this makes the drama interesting its also a nice backdrop to digging deeper into each characters background as well - a parallel.

I think part of the declining rating is due to the gap between what viewers though it was going to be and what it is. Not a romance. That means you have to stick with it to appreciate it. Makes some sense the rating dropped. My guess it will come back up again by the end of the drama at least to an 8.0.

100,00 of cultivators, mortal, demons + centuries of time - HL is bound to run into a few woman along the way. This single guy is a self absorbed absessed cultivation geek giving off hidden alpha male vibes with a half decent face. They come to him. He is not out bagging 'B's, overtly flirting, throwing sex appeal around or concerning himself with numbers. He is in fact sticking to the biz of cultivation.

When he does find himself questioning his feelings for a woman who has presented herself to him he considers the situation from the impact on his cultivation. Its not until he starts to imagine (through the help of 2 male mentors) what his world would look like if something/someone would matter more than himself/his cultivation that he takes his firt self inititated action towards a woman Nangong Wan and stays true to her throughout this version of his reincarnation (the novel).

Setting aside what his life looks like in his happily ever after state. How is that a friggen harem story???

Good point. In general I agree. However, there is much more to be said in the long run about the production of the drama that is really not pretty. If you are going to make a drama then make a drama. If you are going to make a dongua make a dongua. I appreciate they are blending the two genres but without understanding the 'other genre (live action/drama)' you may be doing a disservice to the artforms and the persons involved. Respect drama making too.

First encounter is an accidental boom boom. Second, third, and fourth encounters are blah blah. 75% (ish) of the story passes before the ML decides he wants to make her his. This is a cultivators' story. 100% not a romance.

The drama is setting the viewers up for a downfall as it relates to the FL. She is not actually a lead at all. We are half way through the drama and they still have not developed their relationship beyond an accidental boom boom and a hey hows it going encounter.

She comes in and out of the original story sparingly at best - a hand full of times for relatively short intervals. The ML is the center of the story, its his story, and the FL is a side player like everyone else in his story.

In fact, Han Li does not even realize he wants her to be the FL of his own life until episode 155/56 of the dongue (not even out yet)! Lets see how they move the relationship forward enough to satisfy the viewers. I would guess they do not as they are sticking close to the dongue storyline.
