i like this drama so much even more than TTEOTM . but why it is not topping weekly chart??? is it not popular…
I agree, this is up there for me like Ashes of Love. It's better than Ancient Love Poetry and in some ways, TTEOTM although I was pretty obsessed with that one. I find the pacing done so well, and the FL character is the best I've seen in a long time. Both the FL and ML are so likeable but it's rare to have a FL who's strong, intelligent, loyal, brave, forgiving, and all the amazing qualities you'd want to see. Often dramas make the ML more likeable than the FL but I have to say, these two are AMAZING.

**MAJOR SPOILERS FROM BOOK** In the book, the soup YL took actually did have poison and she was very sick. She needed to soak in a bath while she was healing and XD helped her with bathing due to her illness. In the drama, they changed it so she wasn't poisoned. That cut scene in her memory was definitely a bath scene so they definitely cut out a whole chunk. It wasn't very congruent exactly why she was bathing but in the book it was during her illness and she actually was ill for a while and weak even being forced back to the palace.
If you read chapter 54ish, that's where she makes him show her he isn't a eunuch! It's a very steamy chapter but she basically inspects him and confirms he isn't a eunuch herself lol. Too bad they didn't film this scene but I can see why it wouldn't pass censorship. The book actually has a lot of rated R sections so they had to modify the drama.
Around chapter 70-80, XD sees YL again at the palace and he hates her at this point because he is so heartbroken but he forces himself on her - she semi allows it but he thought she was no longer a virgin so he was really rough with her and it was dim so XD didn't know why YL was in so much pain and he was too angry with her to care. It was only afterwards when he found blood all over his clothes that he realized she was still a virgin. He feels really sorry and they make up after and they have a number of sexcapades, one was even at a temple!
In the drama, they toned this down and made it less scandalous by having them wed first so I think the preview in ep 25-26 on the boat is when they end up sleeping together for the first time but they had already cleared up their misunderstanding so it was a very romantic moment. It wasn't at all in the book, and their first time was like a nightmare for YL. Also in the novel, YL tricks the emperor by sending her maid in her place but how they were able to do that I'm not sure but maybe it's always dark and the emperor can't even see who he's bedding...?? But somehow she was able to avoid sleeping with him but the poor maid....both her and the maid had to keep drinking contraceptive herbs to ensure they don't get pregnant :\
I really like this drama and the FL and ML are great! I'm not sure why the rating is so low, it's so good! The emperor completely creeps me out. I love how the FL is so bold and fearless. The ML has such a sensitive and sweet side and I really like Dylan's acting here. This story is such a refreshing love story, even though a lot of the intimate parts were cut, I saw the clips and can insert them in my mind lol. I don't think the production should be suffering in ratings for it when it's really not their fault. The scenary and gardens are beautiful and I'm sad to see the rating so low. I think it should be at least 8.4-8.6. I actually like this more than LBFAD in some ways. Some of the side characters in LBFAD were very annoying but here, there aren't many side stories and if there are, it still revolves around the main leads. Hopefully the rating goes up! I am reading the novel with google translations and boy, the part where she finds out the ML's secret is steamy lol!
I personally really enjoy the scenes with Tao Jun Hui and the FL. I think they are more well-matched than the FL/ML. the FL/ML are cute but a bit boring and static. Fei Fei is annoying but I find her scenes enjoyable because I know she is going to completely overreact and it's helping to show Tao's lingering feelings for the FL. It also sounds like he never did anything wrong in their 7 year relationship. If was mainly his annoying mom who didn't like the FL, but he was still committed to her so I feel actually sorry for him because he obviously still has her in his heart and the FL decided to leave him. I think I'm having second male lead syndrome lol. This may not be a popular view...but I wanted to share. The episode of him hurting his hand for her and then the FL helping him out with the investigation was a highlight for me. All the other couples are fastforward moments. I have never seen a couple more annoying than Wenyu and MeiMei - they are the worse type of filler for a drama.
