Definitely agree with you on that! I think that's one of the main points that pulled the drama down for me. As I told others, there's no doubt that I enjoyed those character's side stories but they don't do much to the show. This was the only show I've noticed so far that when they have character poster for that character, you will get a story for all of them.

I actually enjoyed the last quarter of it the most. Probably because we finally get to see everything that we were waiting for to happen, happen. I do agree that there wasn't much to show for their romance. It was slow burn and we didn't get all those fluttery heart stopping moments like other romance dramas. However, I was able to overlook that.

haha right? I think I saw a lot of comments on douban, discussing how unrealistic the aspect of "free time" that these characters had.

that's why I love slow burn romance and not the ones where it's like missed opportunities and long gazes but ones where they gradually get to know each other

hmm... I went through my completed list for cdramas and I don't think I've seen any dramas where the leads communicate like this or have a feel like it. There are other potential shows that I have yet to finish that may have this aspect but because I haven't completed them, I'm not sure if its consistent to the end.

I feel like in other shows, they push the conversation to not create misunderstandings during a relationship or the conversations is held with a side character.

definitely! I have yet to finish watching intense love but I feel like my mind has accustomed itself to not take cdrama work environments seriously unless they try to make it a major focus of the show.

for some odd reason, I just got into this trope this year XD Like I have my radar on the medical-military trope or just even military trope.

And I haven't seen DOTS either XDD I can't find myself to pick it up. maybe one day?

I have yet to watch Love Designer but I've heard great things about Dilraba and Johnny's chemistry!

I have a rule of thumb when it comes to dramas, is to give it at least 4 episodes for short length shows and 10 for longer ones. Sometimes you don't need to go that far in to tell if it should be a dropped drama or not. But I do see what you mean, a lot of people had a tough time getting into this show, myself included.

I finished it yesterday and I definitely agree that I've come to love the side stories and characters. The writers did do a good job at playing with our emotions because when it came down to the end, I don't think I despised any of the characters, even those I was frustrated with at the beginning. I do feel like when you pull back and try to see it from the perspective of a drama, as a whole, it doesn't add much to the original storyline. This is my first drama with the actor who played Tian Yong. Do give me recs of any good works that I should watch! :)

ahhh great insight! I definitely forgot to consider the writing aspect of it. The conversations and actions taken in the work environment did feel really off in the drama

I was questioning the accuracy the whole time and then I saw in the opening credits that they listed a "military tactic advisor" and a "medical advisor." I don't know how it can go so wrong if they can get two advisors from the field to advise

I was going to mention a bit about propaganda in here but I opt out of it as it could be a controversial topic to talk about in an article. I don't think I dislike it nor has it become something really off-putting for me to stay away from these types of drama but I do understand how it can come off as. It always makes me pause and think about the message it tries to send.

I loved that their romance was built up on their conversations and slowly getting to know each other! Liang Mu Ze just being someone she can talk to became one of my favorite things about the show :)

Thanks for checking it out Cho Na! If you like slow burn romance, I think you'll come to like Liang Mu Ze and how he eventually treats Xia Chu. I still need to go back and finish Joy of Life but I remember seeing him in there and boy did I enjoy the first few episodes so much because of him! I'm already stocked to see his future works!

loved the highlight of Chongqing in this article! Chongqing has been on my radar since a couple of years back. I was watching a Youtube video about I Belonged To You and someone made a comment about how beautiful Chongqing is. Would definitely love an opportunity to visit the place one day
