I heard from Marcus Sim sometimes NRTA let go things that they ban sometimes need to edit. So I really don't know…
I can honestly never understand the NRTA and their decisions. They come off as wishy washy to me sometimes. We'll have to just take things as they go if we continue to watch dramas from China :|

I initially thought of skipping this one just because there are other shows I'm following atm but I'm now considering this one? I can't really make up my mind because everything about your article was intriguing until I got to your forethoughts section. I like the time-traveling trope but I can't do messy plotholes. I'll sit on this one, maybe binge-watch it after it airs? We'll have to wait and see. Thanks for the lovely currently watching write up :)

I haven't seen Klem but this does sound like something we can easily see in K-dramaland these days. I think these picks are pretty spot on when you're comparing the characteristics of these characters to what the actors/actresses have already shown us in their previous works. At least from those that I've seen and your reasoning, it works. Great job on your first article and it seems like you had a lot of fun with it!

in love with the way u described Hyun su
Thank you! I had a tough time picking out the best scene to describe him because there were too many. Probably had the most fun describing him as well :)

Title Stand by Me
I'm in search of the instrumental soundtracks of the show. If anyone has links, please share them with me. I'd greatly appreciate it :)

I think it'll be hard to find something similar to UL 2019 just because how the story is present. There's several UL stories but none that I've seen are like UL 2019. How were those two? They have good ratings and I've heard a lot of things about them as well. Especially since Soul Mate has drama and KR adaption as well.

lol, I tried to start the novel as well. I didn't get far but I did realize that the 2021 ver was more true to the novel. But like you, I didn't care for accuracy XD I feel like sometimes with some book to drama adaptations, it's best if it doesn't follow it word for word. Instead, it'll work better with the scriptwriter's input. I'm waiting for the movie ver though. I'd like to see what they'll do to the story with shorter time to tell it.

Do come back and share if you finish the 2021 version. I'd like to hear your opinions :)

Yes!!! You pointed out the main points that were lacking in the 2021 ver. Everything that tugged onto my emotional radar in the 2019 ver wasn't present. It was sadly quite disappointing as I was hoping to get some of those emotions in this version.

First, a quote from the writer's opening example from "Ever Night": "I thought he was joking when he uttered those…
This was based on the first few episodes and the first impression of Ning Que, who, when I went in, thought he was going to be a classical hero. So, the initial thoughts were filled with shock of him walking away from his mission - something a classical hero wouldn't do. It was when he turned away was when I realized he wasn't that character type. Now, does that make it wrong for him as a character, and does that make it wrong for us as humans? Definitely not, as we've come to develop the "fight or flight" mode, and Ning Que chose the latter. With the traits listed of Ning Que, it wasn't just for the given example. Ning Que continues to show these traits in the following episodes and through the show. Yes, at times, they weren't as prominent, but they were still present. I just think that this creates an interesting layer for his character.

Thanks for reading and I appreciate you sharing your opinion :)

SORRY THIS IS LONG I JUST KEEP THINKINGand i a b h o r hypocrisy i really do and i hate inconsistency which honestly…
I listened to it while I was working. Thanks for sharing, it would have been easier to digest it if I read it though but that was a really interesting video on the history of terrorism and how it evolved to what we know of it today.

But you definitely don't need to apologize for sharing your thoughts. As I've mentioned, I enjoy reading them even if I may not know how to respond to each thought. I can tell that you thought through this topic really deeply. I especially liked what you brought up in your second paragraph and how heroes are "destructive; mentally, physically, interpersonally. they see it as always wanting to fix sth, not being around completely for those you love but being more around for others, and just this drive that doesn't mesh with so many people." This is something I've thought about before but just barely grazed at it. I find it interesting how we view these onscreen heroes, most of us tend to forget to look at this aspect. Instead, it seems like we're wired to try to justify it, hence where it seems like the term antihero comes in.

"kdramas do noooot like highlighting the journey and like to prolong how annoying a character can be then redeem them. very few do a good job of making us feel sth for this character." I feel a lot of dramas suffer from this. Some do it in a better way than others and it depends on the focus of the storyline but I see this often.

IDK if you’ll read this but...My favorite favorite antihero kdrama has to be Bad Guys I would categorize them…
I certainly do read all comments, and I appreciate your response! Bad Guys was a popular one I came across when I was researching this article. I'll have to make time to check that one out. Have you, by chance, seen its drama spinoff and movie sequel? If so, how do they compare to the original drama?

As for Vincenzo, I have yet to see it as well. I've seen many comments praising the show and its antihero character, and others saying it's pretty bland. I feel like I'll have to try it myself to see how it goes. You sell it well though because I'm pretty intrigued after reading your comment.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I appreciate your comment :)

Oh, I feel like this site can get scary at times. I'm a pretty open-minded person who likes seeing other's people's perspectives on different things. It's impossible for everyone to see eye to eye so it's better to try to understand why we don't.

I think I see what you mean about Hyun Soo and how they wrote him. They made his character really ambiguous throughout the show. His character was one who was forced into a corner and just accepted it, probably why you saw him as a tragic character.

I really do enjoy your continued thoughts on this. A lot of the things you mentioned, I haven't even thought of and don't even know how to respond to. Btw, you mentioned Stranger and how you think it's the best show that depicts an antihero. I'm intrigued to check that one out as you certainly have thought through the antihero on a deeper level than I did.

Seven samurai and ikiru
Wait.. wasn't Seven Samurai the film that The Magnificent Seven was adapted from? I haven't seen either but I've read about it in a paper on the inspiration of Japanese film in western media. Now I'm even more excited to see it xD

First of all, I don't know Kurosawa Akira but now I feel like I need to! I love this approach on a fan guide for a director. He seems to have such a great influence in the industry. I mean.. even Star Wars, a well-known and still really popular franchise of its own, borrowed elements from his works. His grit and allowing himself to do better the next time around even with mediocre success says a lot about his talent. May he rest in peace and I'm sure his works will be loved for many more years! If there was one of his works that you guy would recommend, which one would it be?

That's a really interesting thought. Can you elaborate more on why it's not always about morals? It's been so long since Nice Guy and I actually never finished so I feel kind of lost with this example :/ Though, I think that wouldn't have come down to morals as well? If Maru turned Jaehee instead of covering for her, he would've been able to stop this domino effect?

lol, I liked your ramble though. It really goes into more detail to the character and his antihero traits. Also, I don't doubt Yoo Ah In's portrayal of his characters. Now I'll have two Yoo Ah In shows that I need to watch. This and Chicago Typewriter and the list just gets longer xD
