Article The Antihero Trap Spoiler

I was told I should skip Broker and watch Love is Sweet as well. Lol, hopefully, we get to see Immortality soon. It got really quiet on their end about releasing it. Maybe after all of this new regulation calms down a bit we will be able to get an actual air date? We'll keep our fingers crossed

And now I'll have to go listen to a good throwback OST XD

Bu Bu Jing Xin should be on YT with EN subs. I wouldn't say the ending was happier? They did have a second season in modern days but I didn't really like it. I think bittersweet endings are okay as well. In general, I don't care if it's a happy/sad endings as long as it makes sense to the story. That's actually what a heard about the KR ver and how it focused a lot on her story with the 8th prince vs. the 4th.

We're getting close to the end of the year already. Maybe he hasn't seen something he likes? Hopefully, he gets the rest he needs though. I do know that his dog passed a couple of weeks ago?

Thanks a bunch for this comment on the list of antiheroes and your thoughts on them! I was hoping to get comments…
Oh no, I didn't mean to say your list overwhelms me, I'm sorry. All lists in general do, but I was referring to when I go into MDL to search for the endless number of dramas out there and try to comb through them. I've added this to my list.

Every time I go in and see that J-dramas are really short, less than 10 ep, I get a nice little surprise out of it even though I know J-dramas don't tend to be long. This does seem quite dark, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes. Thanks for the rec :)

omg! I always keep forgetting that I first saw Ji Sung in Save the Last Dance For Me! That was definitely a long time ago. Maybe watch Defendant if you haven't? I think that one was quite popular. I haven't seen it but I have it on my list.

I honestly couldn't hate Run Yu, even in the end. If anything, all of that made me love him even more! I've only started to watch LYX in other works as ML in Broker and wasn't that impressed with the drama but was definitely impressed with his acting. I need to see him on his other shows asap!

Moon Lovers didn't get domestic recognition but it has so much international fan recognition. I think that beats any other award. Even to this day, fans still positively think about this show and the couple. I personally haven't watched it because my heart is stuck with the original version but the real reason is I'm scarred by the original and I don't wanna be hurt in the Korean one either xD

But I REALLY enjoyed this response and your rant! I always love reading people's rambles on how much they love characters and shows. It doesn't matter if I haven't seen it or if I don't like it, I feel like I vicariously felt your feelings while reading it and that's what makes it wonderful :)

It's a great article, thank you for sharing! it was interesting to read about the classification of anti-hero…
I'm curious as to how antihero Yan Wushi may be. I just peeked at the novel and I'm definitely interested inThousand Autumns now. It's always hard to find a good translated novel or at least I have a hard time because they end up being very long with 200-1000+ ch. This one seems like it's a decent length.

I definitely don't mind watching slow paced dramas, as long as it's well-written, so I will gladly check it out :)

Thank you! But actually this is my first currently watching article.
lol! I love this response and I'm glad you're allowing yourself different opportunities now that you let go of your perfectionism. Dali and the Cocky Prince seems interesting so I'll be looking forward to that one as well. Good luck! :)

Thank you! But actually this is my first currently watching article.
Yes! I saw you had another one in the queue as well and how you mentioned that you don't like writing CW as you don't know if you'll end up liking them/could lose interest.
Cho Na Sep 13, 2021
Cho Na, this is yet another great write-up! Loving that you're doing more currently watching dramas. I want to start this one but I'm debating if it should be one where I wait till after it airs first. On a side note, I still can't help but still see Kim Yoo Jung as a child actress xD

The devil Judge got me on my latest antihero obsession lol, I just really have this dislike for an all roung good…
The Devil Judge seems to be popular in this comment section, which I'm happy about. I was hearing some really negative stuff about it and that's why I have yet to pick it up even though I planned to. Now I'll go into it with a better mindset. I think if you still enjoy the hero troupe, it just shows that the scriptwriting is good enough to keep you hooked!

It wasn't like Devil Judge wasn't next on my list but you just sold it to me that I should probably start it even sooner!

Aside from Kingdom, can anyone recommend Korean dramas with anti heroines?
I'm following this! Need some good recommendation for a gritty female lead antihero as well.

For my part, I would say that Ceo Gu from Life ( Cho Seung Woo) is the perfect anti hero... Although I don’t…
Just looked it up and Life seems like it'll be a good watch! And your thoughts on him intrigues me even more to watch. I feel like I've been missing out on a lot of interesting K-dramas and this one will be added to my list.

Others have mentioned Dexter as well! He is indeed one where it seems like stands out the most for Western antiheroes.

Lee Bang Won from Six Flying Dragons was the PERFECT antihero. You have to watch this drama.
I remember starting this a few years back but pausing it due to having too much of a busy life on my plate. I never went back but I definitely want to. I heard that My Country: The New Age also has the same character? In my research of antiheroes, many compared the two. I'm assuming it's based on an actual real-life character as it's about the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty? The point of this ramble is, have you seen My Country: The New Age and how would you compare the two Bang Won's if you have?

Excellent write-up. Love the thought process going deep into the various facets of the "antihero" concept, and…
While writing this I was also intrigued by anti-villains as well and thought it could be something I can explore next. However, Liliac and Enny wrote a beautiful article, "Playing Devil's Advocate" about villains not too long ago. In which, I felt like touched the idea of anti-villains and was really well-written and thought out. I do feel like anti-villains are probably more complex to break apart compare to antiheroes.

Most of your recently viewed antiheroes are on the list of dramas I plan to watch, so I'm definitely excited to dive into those antiheroes when they show up!

Wonderful article - Chen Kun's Ning Yi is my favorite anti-hero. Of course the darkest protagonists this year…
Thanks for your comment! :) It's hard not to adore Ning Yi! I had so much fun watching his character and his journey!

I have yet to see WoH. But you're the second person to mention WoH and their antihero-like traits, so I'm intrigued! For some reason, wuxia/xianxia dramas are not capturing me as much as they used to. I'm curious if I've outgrown it/need some time away

Two antiheroes that worked for me: -Wu Zetian in Palace of Desire-Prince Yinzhen later emperor Yongzheng in Scarlet…
I haven't seen Palace of Desire. Are there full subs for that one yet? Last I checked it wasn't fully subbed, and I didn't want to start it because of that.

And yes, Prince Yinzhen was a definite antihero that was mentioned in a previous MDL antihero article, so I left him out. But the complexity of his character and the whole drama was such a gem! One of my favorites!

SPOILERS AHEAD!I just finished "The Devil Judge" so I'm nominating Kang Yo Han. Good backstory, unscrupulous AH,…
Devil Judge is on my to-watch list! I didn't include Run Yu as I didn't want this list to get lengthy, so it was just main leads. I haven't sat down and dissected his character, though. It makes me wonder if he really is an antihero or more of an anti-villain? But whatever he is, I do love Run Yu and AoL! One of my favorite dramas!

Sleuth of Ming Dynasty! Again, you mention another drama I have yet to watch but is on my list! It just makes me more excited before I get to dive in now!

lol, WoH, another drama I have yet to watch. I watched Flaming Heart, and Gong Jun didn't impress me in there. Would you say he's better in WoH?

And I'm so sorry that it seemed like clickbait with Wang So! I didn't want to mention him as he was previously mentioned as an antihero from another MDL article. I debated if I should include him anyways but decided to opt for Flower of Evil. But because I adore Lee Joon Gi, he had to be on the cover, in the beginning, and the last portion as well.

Thank you for your comment, though. I enjoyed reading how you paired up the characters! :D

Amazing article, I wish it was longer! Do Hyun Soo is my favourite anti-hero; Lee Joon Gi always excels in those…
I thought it was too long and had to re-edit a few times to be a bit more concise xD What aspects would you have liked to see expanded on?

Lee Joon Gi can never fail to deliver for his roles!

I actually have not seen Taxi Driver and a lot of k-dramas this year. I have Devil Judge next in the queue because I heard that the lead has antihero traits. There are a few more k-dramas that I want to check out as well.

J-dramas with female antiheroes to name a few:Classical antiheroes: Kuroi 10-nen no OnnaDisney antiheroes: EnjiyaPragmatic…
Thanks a bunch for this comment on the list of antiheroes and your thoughts on them! I was hoping to get comments on antiheroes in J-dramas as I once read an article on the influences on western film in Japan and vs. versa. But I don't indulge in many j-dramas so it feels overwhelming looking at lists of them and I find that they're hard to find with subs. I was (and still am) currently watching Ouroboros during the draft of the article. I wanted to include it here as it has antihero leads but didn't want to wait longer to finish the drama first.

Out of the dramas you listed, which one of these dramas do you think I should watch first?

From dramas that I've seen, here's my list of anti-heroes that worked and those that didn't:VincenzoAH That Sucks:…
I actually have not finished/seen a good number of these. I'll be sure to check some of these out as they're already on my radar. And I'm always on the hunt for a good antihero, so thanks for dropping this list :)
